To be fair though, it should also be noted that it is just a painting. There's no use to it other than decoration, and perhaps as a means of calming yourself (depending on the intent/depiction within the painting) or providing inspirations to others. Considering the world is very much a militaristic one where everyone values strength, it shouldn't be all too surprising that the painting's value is only worth so much.

I can see where you're coming from, but its also a matter of grade. Those pills were only first grade if I'm remembering correctly, second at worst. The number of people that can make them is definitely higher than the number that can make a 5th grade painting, and the people that can make the painting, can't do it reliably and are unlikely to produce more than a small handful in their entire lives. The pills are also unlikely to be useful to more than a small subset of people while the paintings would be valuable to anyone who likes art, which is apparently a very large number of people in this kingdom.

Its also worth considering our own world where life saving medications are generally much cheaper than high value art. Granted, we mass produce our medicine, but even the stuff that isn't mass produced usually won't be as expensive as a high quality painting.

As far as I can remember, the pills were certainly not in the first grade. After all, they weren't available at the local guild, and had to be ordered from the headquarters and transported from another region. Something only in the first grade shouldn't be that rare such that they didn't even have stock of it.

You should also realise that the reason why the pills were so expensive was due to the rarity. Most of the cost came from the pills that were for the specific constitutions, hence the higher price makes sense.

Not to mention that there is a clear difference in standing between painters and apothecaries. It was stated that apothecaries had a standing that was only just lower than master teachers (Chapter 88), whereas painters were only in the middle of the occupations (164). Which makes sense, given the world's setting.

I'm only waiting when he realised or experiment by trying to paint spear intent into the painting because he's too damn lazy to beat the concept of spear intent into his student.

by then, i wonder if that is considered as the legendary rank 6 painting (if there is such rank)?

A painting that can probably kill. Now that is one of a kind.

What makes you think that he would be too lazy to teach his students? o.0

well, so far you see he only gives pointer every now and then, while writing the cultivation path on a book and toss it to them then tells them to follow to the letter.

while this works for cultivation, the concept of spear intent doesn't work that way. if the MC wants to teach them directly the most common methods are explaining the concept of spear intent, let them experience directly, or combination of both. Now, MC can (probably?) easily explain the concept then let him experience the real deal. You dont expect the MC will be that hard working to stand there with the spear intent and let his disciple feels it right?
the most probable method is integrate it into painting...otherwise beside money making method I don't see the point of MC learning painting.

he got his spear intent from reading.... why do you not think it's possible?
even if he has the library, no because he has the library, writing a book out for his student would be alot lazier than draw a whole painting, and also that painting should work the same as a book so I don't really get your meaning
you should remember that MC is not a genius, only reason he has anything is cause of the library pretty much dumbing it down for him and giving him shortcuts, really, really, really good ones

One More Thing: In cultivation novels it always works such that w/e you get from a painting, if you don't have even the slightest of understanding towards the intent sealed within, then you'd just be dumbly staring at it forever, maybe not for everything but high level stuff like spear intent, you'd need prior understanding of it for that painting to be of any use

The MC has given his class multiple day long lectures that seriously broadened their understanding of the first stage of cultivation, at least one of his students then went home and passed on a part of one of those lectures to her family who all also had their understanding of cultivating in general broadened.

Teaching his class about spear intent would be like one lesson, and he probably still won't realize just how lacking in common sense he is.

I think the only reason why the author didnt give this MC the easy way to refine pills is just to make sure he's not OP as fvck....

With this library, he can probably shid and turn it into a pill to cultivate seeing the way things are going.

The pills that aren't mass produced that I mentioned are also for specific conditions, which is one of the reasons that they're not mass produced, the other being that they go bad in less than a day.

As for why the pills aren't available locally: I just assumed it was a lack of materials rather than a lack of skill. Not all materials exist in all areas after all.

Also, I'm not saying that his painting has to be more expensive than the pills, but for it to be like 20% of their cost just seems far too low for an ultra-rare fifth grade product that usually can't be bought with money competing against a somewhat uncommon first (or possibly second) grade product that can be purchased by mail order at will.
Nah, he's totally OP as fvk already. I'm sure the pill refining will come latter. Its more likely that he just didn't want to make him a multi-billionaire quite so quickly.

There's no reason why you should be comparing mass produced pills in real life to one in a cultivation world setting. They obviously aren't the same, since there's more risk involved in a cultivation world, not to mention that it would be much slower to do.

Also, the pills were classed as advanced grade 3 (Chapter 123), and considering that the guild master in the kingdom was only a grade 1 apothecary, it should be clear as to why the guild doesn't have one available if they didn't order it previously and keep it around.

You should also realise that the constitutions that the two of them have are very rare, to such an extent that they (nor their families, nor the school) didn't even realise that they had it. You make it sound as if the pills for such rare constitutions would be readily available, when the rarity for it would be much higher. Not to mention that in order to be able to refine pills to deal with such a specific constitution would obviously require more specialised apothecaries. Even if you just consider the materials necessary, then it should be even more obvious that the pill would be much more expensive than the painting.

What did it take for MC to create the tier 5 painting? There was nothing special. He used a standard canvas, and a standard brush and ink (whose rarity would at most be used for tier 3 paintings, assuming there's even a difference between the materials used for different painting tiers to begin with). But in order to make the pill, you would obviously need to use specific materials, which you even said yourself might not be readily available everywhere.

It should also be noted that you shouldn't assume that the pill's price is standard for those of that tier. It might just be an outlier due to its rarity.

This novel is good minus the parts where it starts with:
    Brother....blah blah..it gets too repetitive.
And when the author makes the mc and other dumb when they interract such as when mc asked why the imperial tutor is jumping around like a kangoroo.
It's fine every once in a while but this happens too often.

I'm not comparing it to mass produced pills. I'm specifically comparing it to life saving, non-mass produced pills, as they would be the closest, real world equivalent.

Ah, I was misremembering the grade. That kind of price difference is more believable then. Still, I'd expect their prices to be closer.

I think you're mistaken if you think those pills are created with the intention of unlocking their specific physiques. Their physiques are too rare. If that was the only purpose the pills served, then its unlikely that anyone would even bother to know the recipes much less being able to buy them so simply. The physique unlocking is simply a happy side effect for those that have a physique to be unlocked.

The rarity for the painting is in the painter, and a painter that can paint grade five paintings should be rarer than an apothecary that can make grade three pills.

Well regardless, the pills between the two worlds can't be compared, due to the help granted by modern technology.

Also, I think you should reread Chapter 123. It specifically stated that the pill was used to unlock the constitution:

Given that, it should be understandable why it's so rare to find the needed pills, hence the price.

I think the physique unlocking is the main purpose and any other effect(since no other effect has been mentioned so far) is a side thing they may be rare but it's not like his students are the very first case so.... a period of a lifetime for those rare cases to try and figure out how to unlock their physiques eventually got passed down

Its killing me so much to wait, tempted by the devil I lose my patience and turned to LNMTL as to fill the thirst to know whats next I peeled me eyes and boosted me mind, determined by all cost I started reading chap 167 and to my greatest suprise I managed to read the a few MTLed chaps, usually I won't last a few paragraphs.

Then it start to hit me, yes I am reading the MTLed chap but for what purpose if not for the story, to understand its content. °☆BaaM☆° I, me body shhoked and me mind shuddered, "God what has gotten into me? Why am I reading A, B, C...?" Yea I did manage to read a few chapters (sacrificed alot of brain cells) but just for the sake of reading the texts, non of the humour understood even the story kinda lost its understanding element. Moral of the story, BE STRONG STRENGTHEN THE WILL wait for the proper translation release.

p.s. thank you for reading, perhaps at least the first few lines of my lil 'I gots nothing better to do' post:D:D

You should get used to it, because this is a novel about face-slapping and that's an integral part of the authors current method
I like (most) of those parts though...

"once you go ______, you can never go back" don't give false hope to people when it's still not certain whether you'd turn back to mtl or not, understanding or no
I read mtl and now I can't stop it's a vicious cycle that kills my brain cells, I mean I still read the proper translations but I still go to the mtl and stockpile the translations since 1 chap a day just kills me, I mean even author updates twice so that's slightly better
