to much of a hassle have to keep up appearance, politics, war, power strugle mostly, a king (and royalties) is not a free man you cant really do as you please if you tried to be a good king, you'll become the people(and country)'s slave if you tried to be a dick and do as you please, you have to deal with public unrest, and kingdom that's prone to poverty if you tried to rule with iron fist, you have to deal with rebellion and other country's war potential and no matter what you do, there will always be an assassination attempt and corrupt official i think becoming a noble is better than becoming a king or maybe a rich merchant?
I wouldn't mind being a King but I would be a tyrant. There is only so much bs I can take before I start ordering executions of self righteous nobles and corrupt officials.

If you arent competent enough, there would always be people that wants to control you.. and if the thing goes out of hand, there would ba a coup that could potentially bring you to the hanger.

Yes, in reality I do have royalty lineage.. Oh there no such thing as good king. There only tyrant or smart tyrant.. People tend to praised their royalty too much, even when the truth their king is actually tyrant and his plan was coincidentally benefit his people

It really depends on the set up. Of course if there's magic as king things would get..... ugly. (imagine using the power of the king to rearrange the capital into giant magic arrays with the throne as the center) Or just summon someone and tell them "this world has grown soft, it needs a true maou to guide it"
