I learn English by coincidence. I hear people shouting fuck in the movie and I think it's cool. After that I bring dictionary if I watch movie... And I'm still thinking fuck is cool word.

When I was x years old,my parents always used to say that I wouldn't be able to get a job, if I didn't learn the 'so called magical' language "English"...
    So yeah~
That's my reason for learning English.

Sincerely, when I was at the school or was forced by my parents to do a particular english course I didn't give a damn to it and consequently didn't learn a thing.
BUT, when I started to read manga online (in my language, portuguese) I perceived that there were so little series being translated and the ones that I wanted to read the most were in a snail peace I decided to venture reading in spanish since it was a rather close language to mine and so learned spanish by reading manga.
BUT!!! The same thing happened again! And so, since I already have a dictionary (because of school) I shall try reading in english since they have many more manga and chapters translated, and so I started reading eng manga with a dictionary in hand, got used, started to read novels, went to a proper english course (2~3 after starting to read in english) and got flabbergasted that my vocabulary was wider than the teacher's but my speech and hearing sucks but I can get by if people talk slower~
    That's it~

Us native speakers are lucky in that we ruled the world once, so most speak it as at least a second language. As I still live there I have had no reason to learn another nor does our education system have a functioning way to teach other languages.

English is my first language. I learned my second language, 'Sarcasm' at the age where I realized there were stupid people in the world. So I was about 12 or so

Seriously? Every language took time to learn. It's not easy to be fluent in a foreign language, any of them. I know 3 languages and I'm studying for the 4th.

My main lang, english, spanish, and now japanese. I've been having a hard time with the kanji and looking at korean characters with all those straight lines and circles just messes with my head. :notlikeblob: Not that I'm trying to learn. Just an observation. :hmm: Maybe I should try Korean for real?

I learn it when I was around 9y.o because I wanted to read manga. 13 years ago, France did not publish a lot of manga, so I go pirate, and learned english in this way (hehe Im proud of myself). I readed the manga with an electronic dictionary. Each time I don't understand, I translate it (was I really 9 yo?). Once almost all manga was readed, I went to novel.

France education system (toward english) is really bad. Most high school student can't speak nor read fluently.

Actually, if you look at the benefits that being bilingual brings to the brain, especially with old age, i think i'm the lucky one since i had good reason to learn a new language xD
