Generally, an actual parent company is on the hook for debts, however they'd typically sell off the toxic company at an undervalued price.

The thing is, Migu Reading has a big owner as well: it is owned by China Mobile, the state owned telecom giant. So this is a case where literally you have two enormous titans (China Mobile and Tencent) staring at each other but probably being careful not to let it get out of hand and result in them getting into a fight as well. Or, in cultivation terms, "Let the juniors fight it out, we elders will sit back and drink tea together."

 

So Qidian in China is exactly like Qidian International, huh?

 

It's still a basis. If the litigation goes in Migu's favor, it's still precedent in court that you can use in your favor if you end up in Chinese Court.

If it's International Court, it's proof even the Chinese courts are sick of Yuewen and/or Yuewen 'knows' they're commiting fraud.

Either way it's just another roll of the die.

It depends on how good yuewen's contactcs in the party are compared to Migu's

 

high likelihood of a settlement occurring. These types of things rarely actually end in a judgement.

Still very bad for them. It's probably going to heavily damage their IPO valuation. I'd guess that's exactly why Migu is striking now, the potential damage to their IPO is going to make them more likely to settle quickly.
