Is there anyone who taught him/herself japanese and is now able to read a light novel? If so, I really would like to hear from the experiences.

Well, if there is, there is then also the hope to learn it by yourself, that it's actually possible.

I don't mean to brag but... I know at least 5 Japanese words (oh yea, you read that correctly. Five. Whole. Words.)

I've mastered most of hiragana & katakana. With some furigana app/add on and a little google translate for complicated words it's kinda working

I think the guy from the yt channel AbroadInJapan did it mostly by himself. Think it took him a year or two.

I translate Jap w/o translating software (but with an online Jap dictionary), so I'd say pretty far?

    How I started?
Learn kana (Chinese mom, so know some kanji already) -> learn particles and grammar -> translate with google translate and Jap dictionary -> translate w/o gt.

First I think you should learn the lettering. Then maybe slowly translate something small and simple and slowly build up.
If you were learning Korean I would recommend Invisible Dragon its really simple and straightforward, Japanese on the other hand I haven't found the right one yet. :D

You really know a lot. I'm in the middle of learning hiragana. Some are really easy to remember, others are not.

..... :blobpopcorn::blobpopcorn:you want to know how? Just watch subbed anime first(just watch slice of life not fantasy),try to translate by hearing or if you hate anime then just visit Google Translate and try to learn hira and kana then go kill those kanji.. ..(I already have 500 of them remembered and this kanji shit is the most pain in the ass to learn:blobtriumph:)
