Discussion What's your take on betrayal ?

I'm not up to date with Spirit Realm, was there a betrayal?

 

*sigh*
For me, Betrayal isn't something I can take.......Because when you get betrayed by someone, it means that you have trust them a lot and it hurts.......
So betrayal isn't good as a plot in my opinion.....

Not reading novel for a week, or just watch hentai to make me forget

 

I hate it when anything, be it betrayal, memory loss, power loss, memory manipulation, mind control etc, is used as a way to weaken the mc because he/she is becoming too powerful. Or to create drama.
The novel I'm currently hating on is Demon King Chases the Good For Nothing Miss or something, which really lives up to it's name. It's all about her constantly being separated from him and then trying to find each other while she does her best not to be killed.

 

from a moralistic poi, we of course dont like betrayals but..everything is fair in love and war.

Are you all aware that most of the mightiest kingdoms / countries were destroyed by betrayal?

That's why...
Only death can forgive them.

 

Betrayal has in many cases been the superior tactic in means of survival.

That doesn't really mean it's a tactic lots of people like, but a tactic some people would take in order to survive.

But frankly, betrayal has many reasons as to why it happens and to how it's done. Some, more morally acceptable than others, some way more heinous than others.

Let's take two somewhat common cultivation examples.

1. A somewhat mediocre cultivator in a sect / family / clan betrays it for their enemies, because he wants to possess some beauties in it which have looked down upon him and defeated him before. His family has belonged to the group for several generations.
2. A former somewhat of a genius disciple, with some family members in high positions in the group, decides to abandon the group at it's crucial hour, because he had been defeated by someone within it (often MC), instead switching allegiance to the attacker. Sometimes they may or may not get other family members onboard, and their family have been high in the group for many generations.

Those are just two of the more commonly examples, but some would argue 1 is better and others that 2 is better, based on morals or logic. From our world, which isn't in such a survival of the fittest world as theirs.

But to put it frankly, betrayal is often because of the 7 cardinal sins in some degree.

1. Wrath
2. Pride
3. Sloth
4. Lust
5. Envy
6. Greed
7. Gluttony

Every individual will have different reasonings as to what kind of betrayal is more acceptable than others, and we have no actual idea of knowing how we would personally react in a situation where survival of the fittest like in those novels exist.

But the thing is, there is no advanced civilization that hasn't had it's share of betrayal / treachery, and it's likely to never change. Because if someone is desperate to keep on living, they can come up with whatever justifications they want in order to feel like they did the right thing. And anyone who condemns them ? How are we to know they wouldn't have done the same thing in their situation?

We simply can't know before we're at that last moment of choice for our survival.

 

i stopped reading one novel where the "best waifu" girl betrayed mc purely out of edge. i'd say i received it better than most of the readers though

Close Combat Mage betrayal took me by complete surprise and I instantly Dropped the novel......and now I finally pick it up back and founded out that he already got revenge

 

Traitor is someone everyone needs but nobody likes. A rather pitful being that balances between execution from former allies and being useful to enemies.

 

It depends on the type of Betrayal.

To go back on your promise about being there, that particular day. Is a betrayal but nothing you should become an angry monkey jumping up and down, throwing things.

Your lover betraying your relationship in favour of going behind your back with another? Something you can get angry over, but nothing you should make a long time fuss over. Unnecessary grudge will only wound you ,more than them.

Your lover betraying your relationship in favour of going behind your back with a Your FRIEND? Well, now we are going to regions where Betrayal truly start to sting and something you shouldn't really release and forgive. There is a limit, this is a betrayal that truly steal a chunk of the cake.

You get the idea.

there is 2 answer :
1. if i on the right side when betrayed, then it doesnt matter. everything will be paid, even if im not doing anything.
2. if i on the wrong side when betrayed, then it time for musing, improve oneself, and fight on

but, if its novel, then just drop it. reading for entertain oneself.
destroy when need to destroy , forgive when need to forgive.
and dont really like antihero and revenge plot.
