I don't like random betrayals but if its foreshadowed or the main focus like im rokka no yuusha it becomes intriguing due to the fact that there is no trust and every bond already has a reason for being destroyed. But most of the time it's too make the story randomly more suspenseful like throwing an mc down a hole only for him to power up

The main issue with betrayals is that the way in which it happens is always so obvious making you question the sanity of the MC for not guessing that earlier. The general personality of wuxia MC's is naive and too trusting which makes it very easy for them to be betrayed by women in particular, a little flash of the eyelashes and they're hooked. A better plot line would be a trusted friend betraying the MC but doing it because the MC himself has changed in some negative way. Maybe the MC has become to merciless and is leading the larger group down the wrong route hence the friend who tried to stop him has no choice but to betray him. It could work as a good way to frame a redemption story.

Except if her betrayal is her killing you. In that case make sure you have a at least one best friend or girlfriend that will take revenge for you.

I'm against a cheap plot device used cheaply. Cheap plot devices can be used very well, and be a great contribution to a story's depth. if used correctly. However, if used cheaply, it is just really bad writing

 

It's not. Conspiracy looks alright to me, but betrayal is the worst kind of plot in a story.

 

I read this doujin where a guy got ntred. In volume 1, his girl got abducted and raped. He knew what happened but couldn't do anything as he was abducted too. At the end of volume, he and his girl was released but with his girl memory got erased. Now, his girl smile innocently whenever she met him without her knowing what had happened and he could only smiled back to her

 

In real life betrayal is the worst thing you could do to me but in a novel? A novel's drama breaks or makes it. If the drama is well done and engrosses the reader, making it so that the reader is feeling their emotions feeling hurt or chocked by what happened, and instead is just reading the words and feeling irked by the premise or idea; then its considered well done. But if the reader is just eyeballing the words and skims the words and only feels irked then the author has only invoked the surface layer of emotions. This is a classic example of shitty work.

An example: the author says the MC gets NTR'd but the reader doesn't care as they didn't like the girl/guy in the first place and that character had no depth or substance. But a good author killing off or having an character readers are invested in NTR the MC and invoking rage in the reader, then that's good drama!

I myself tend to drop novels when to much drama is added, example: Perfect world lost memories arc were the tree shows the MC what happened between his parents and family clan. That shit just got to me so hard! I wanted to like the story so much but I just couldn't take it...
