Last year when all we had to worry about was the rare poacher and asshole leachers who get people to quit translating.
I joined in 2016 but I can probably guess back before Yen Press and other Japanese companies became dicks along with Qidian with licensing, yeah yeah legal issues I know, but you can't exactly deny that being able to go to baka-tsuki and read top tier light novels like index and ngnl without any issue was pretty great. Actually its because of Yen Press that I basically don't read any light novels anymore, buying them isn't an option either since they're so fucking slow with the translations.
2016 was great this niche scene wasn't being affected as much by the publishers that now plague this niche scene.
It's hard to give a definitive answer for that... It depends a lot on whom you ask and who that person is/was close to. A golden age is probably when the close friends of said person were active. For me, it would easily be the time close to when I joined, when RPing forum-wide was more common and the people that made me love AG were still active. Those times won't come back, but that doesn't mean I don't love what I currently have, it's simply different from the past, and time won't simply turn back to let me revive those moments... I'd say all ages have gold, it depends on each person's eye to see it or not.
