picking up from ch28... Spoiler 28) - they're attacked by a ground spiral missile, which makes buildings unstable and they need to go underground - but XY estimates that there's probably an ambush waiting for them at the entrance to the tunnels (safe zone) lily freaks out - XY manages to connect to the network and accesses surveillance, place is crawling with zombies - thinking this might be their last day, XY confesses to Lily and then says that "maybe only one man can save us" (ML!) - down in the evacuation area, ML tells them they forgot the stupid rookie, and then runs out by himself to go save him (squeee) - XY watches from the network and helps ML out by closing as many zombie access routes as he can by manipulating the system, ML realizes and looks into the monitor - XY tells lily to be ready, he's coming "走吧，蠢笨的菜鸟" "Let's go, stupid rookie" - Lily & XY try to keep up but they get tired.. ML says he can't take both of them, XY tells ML to go ahead by himself 29) - XY knows he'll die if ML leaves but he can't live with the shame of leaving Lily behind - XY goes back to lily, prepares to die, is saved by ML (again), who says that he'll take them both but if they can't keep up he won't wait again - the ground suddenly gives way an XY and lily fall off, XY grabs the edge and holds on for dear life, lily manages to grab XY's leg - Lily lets go, saying she thinks death will come really fast and she's not scared - ML uses a rope and saves lily, then pulls XY up - ML carries both of them and jumps over the giant hole in the ground, XY suddenly has a feeling where as long as ML is there, he'll be very safe - they make it to the safe area!! Liv helps XY bandage up his wounds, and tells XY that he's now clearly part of the list of people that ML won't easily leave behind - goes to the disinfectant room to deal with zombie goo, it's a walkthrough type thing that cleans as you walk, XY closes his eyes as walking because he's flashing through the zombie attack... walks into ML - XY apologizes, ML asks "for what?", then tells XY the next time he tells him(ML) to leave him behind he'll kill him(XY) himself, and the only person that can kill XY is ML (tough tough love) - they have a maybe-illusion-maybe-real kiss, when XY comes back to himself he realizes ML has already left the disinfectant room - XY makes the resolution that he also has to become strong ... 因为他知道，他将永远无法逃避内心深处追逐那个男人的渴望，所以他只有让自己变得强大！ Because he knew that he would never be able to escape the desire to pursue that man in his heart, so he had to make himself strong! 30) - Lily & XY talk, Lily says that ML went back to only rescue XY, because he's the kind of person who doesn't look back. XY is doubtful. - they're assigned rooms, XY is assigned to share a room with ML & his team - they're given tasteless nutritional biscuits, XY only eats a bit coz they don't taste good - wakes up at 3AM due to hunger, ML gives him a slice of bread/butter from officer's rations (ahhh love) - goes back to sleep, is woken up by Mark 31) - new mission! XY claims he's still just a reserve, Liv says that they're now short of personnel and he counts, and tells him not to look down on himself - mark catches some birds and they have BBQ - ML dissappears for a while and then comes back with fresh fruit. there's cherries. Liv pops one in XY's mouth and...makes a joke about popping cherries (did not know this joke was known in china..) - XY almost gets attacked by a zombie that appears out of nowhere. apparently the zombie has higher agility than normal lvl1 zombies, XY says they might be about to evolve - they head back to base, SB tells XY to write a report on the zombie mutation 32) - ML gets told off by SB for taking someone the Central Academy is deeming superimportant - XY puts some random effort and writes the report - XY is sent back to Charles city with the team - XY is picked up by Casey (the old friend from before), taken to a test room - inside the test room is Lily, who has been implanted with some strain of virus... which will make her die in 10 min - Casey tells XY that he has to decode the gene and fix her otherwise she's gonna be dead (i hate you, casey wtf kind of friend are you) - XY resolves the issue in 8~ min, then finds out that they didn't actually inject her with the virus - Lily told them that XY wanted to save her to the point where he refused ML, so Casey is probably jealous - XY says he'd do the same if it was Casey... then wonders what that says about himself 33) - apparently if he passes this test he can be Casey's research assistant.. (protected from the big scary outside or something. casey, i still hate you) - they reaffirm their friendship with a hug - .. and when XY isn't looking, casey's eyes flash with something dark & unpredictable (I KNEW IT I HATE YOU) - upper level is discussing XY, his processing power is even higher than SB, his classification should be above A but they're going to keep it there since the enemies are currently targetting researchers so he's 'safer' with a lower ranking - he now has A-rank security protection and they approve for him to be Casey's assistant so that he can be in the depths of the base - they have a brief discussion about the report that XY wrote, saying that the speculation was very bold - one guy says that they should just ignore it, the other guy says maybe XY will be another major influence in the world of research? - Casey & XY are eating... Casey asks if he's thinking of lily again, XY says no, Casey then brings up ML's team, and tells XY that the team told the higher ups that if it wasn't their stupid rookie, they don't want a technician - XY laughs and is flattered, Casey tells him off saying that XY only has one life, he should protect it - XY thinks to himself that he feels very safe with ML, but in this sea-less underground city, he feels.. not so good (chinese is 不安, MTL says 'uncertain') - Casey tells him to distance himself from ML.. XY at this point feels like Casey has changed since his return - Casey basically says... if he catches XY thinking of going back outside again he'll put his head on his desk where he can see him every day (WTF CREEPY CASEY I HATE YOU) - XY goes back to his housing, meets some military dudes outside who beat him up on orders from Lily's BF (name is Denzel?) who is some sort of rank in the military - XY snaps back asking where was the honored Denzel when lily was about to die a-la-zombie-death - ML to the rescue...
first shows up in 19 and then again in 25. i originally didn't name him coz i didn't realize he'd actually play such a big role. in 19 XY called casey and they had a "catching up" type of convo, back then casey was also worried about XY being "out in the big scary world" but i glossed over it and only wrote about the hallucination/hormone parts he's a super researcher in Charles city
not sure if it's just me but it seems like the chapters are getting longer with more happening in each one need sleep so i'll post what i have now and continue tomorrow~ Spoiler 34) - The idiots beating up XY say the usual “don’t interfere or we’ll tell Denzel” ML: ““告诉丹泽尔少校——我海茵·伯顿等着他对我不客气。” "Tell Major Denzel I, Heine Burton am waiting for him.” (不客气 pretty much means ‘be impolite’ but in this case it’s a dare from ML to Denzel.. ‘I dare him to come give me crap for stepping in’ kind of thing) - idiots bail, XY thanks ML - ML uses some high end super expensive cloth to clean up XY’s nosebleed from being punched in the face - ML kisses XY FOR REAL!! It’s soft and gentle (noting this because those ‘hallucinations’ from before have all been pretty aggressive) - when they break apart, XY sees some flash of deep emotion in ML’s eyes, but it’s gone before he can figure it out and ML lets XY go superfast - turns out Liv is here! She asks XY what happened… noticed that it’s all healed - XY is still recovering mentally and telling himself it’s impossible that ML just kissed him, when Liv mentioned it’s healed he decides that ML must’ve kissed him just to help him heal (sigh, idiot, he <3<3s you!) - ML & his team are going on a mission to the Amazon - XY thinks a lot in his head: —— about viruses; most terrible viruses often have unexpected tenderness, the healing ability is probably the gentleness of the X virus —— about ML; wondering how this legendary person ended up showing up in his life more and more, speculating the kiss was short to prevent the aphrodisiac part of the virus from kicking in - Denzel heads back to his rooms drunk, tries to hit on ML who is sitting on the sofa… gets his finger broken, wrist dislocated and told to that if he makes XY bleed again in any way, the next thing he(ML) will break is his head - XY starts work under Casey 35) - XY gets implanted with a tracking/monitoring chip. Apparently all researchers have it now as of half a month ago - timeline matches to when SB got the hacker’s info from his head - XY bumps (literally) into another special forces guy, Jan Wallace! He’s supposed to be ML’s successor - !!! the X virus has a heavy burden on the body, and ML’s is likely to give out in 2 years… - Casey tells XY to stay away from Jan because every month when they take blood from him for research into the X virus, a researcher ends up sleeping with him - Jan is going through the body scanner, flirting with XY all the while… when they’re done he shoves XY up against the wall and forcefully kisses him o.o tells him to meet with him tonight at the bar Blue Tulip for more - Casey flies into jealous rage - XY uses memories of ML’s kiss to push past the addiction/desire from Jan’s kiss Cute author’s note: 海茵：…… ML:…… 华莱士中校：我注定会取代你。 Lt. Gives up on trying to use words to get Jan to respect his decision, directly leaves bar - runs into Maya at the entrance, who applauds him for being able to turn him(Jan) down - they jokingly flirt for a bit and go for beers - Jan was apparently watching, eyes go cold - Maya & XY are chatting, XY tentatively asks about having hallucinations of ML, Maya says that ML definitely doesn’t see anyone that way - XY gets confused.. wondering why he has those hallucinations if ML isn’t directing them - XY is drunk, Maya brings him home and dumps him on the bed, gets a call from Mark… shows him XY that’s on the bed 37) - the team steps in like mother hens making sure Maya didn’t sleep with their precious rookie - even ML chimes in and tells Maya XLs room number and has him send him back - Casey tells XY to come up with a project to research, regarding the X virus - XY is bored out of his mind, falls asleep at the computer - dreams of his ocean-scape.. runs into ML there, XY assumes that it’s a copy of ML that’s left behind in his subconscious - XY says he doesn’t like how he(ML) looks at death, like it’s a home to return to - ML tells XY he’s really native.. and they kiss! - ML: “Do you know why I must kiss you here? Because only here, can I be sure that your reactions have nothing to do with the X virus.” - wakes up to Casey asking him when he’s giving his project proposal. XY says this afternoon but internally thinks that his head is “really empty except for a heart that yearns for freedom” - thinking that, he starts putting together a proposal that may let him go outside to do research - proposal gets approved by the higher ups, and they assign it XY without additional researchers because of his high computing power - XY gets started, then gets hungry. On his way to the canteen he passes two researchers that look like special ops… he warns Casey xiin-note: the dream scene at 37 is really romantic, sadly a lot of the imagery and romance and sweet sugary stuff gets cut out in summaries, if you’re a MTL-er you should totally read it for full effect. also, i’m finding that the author is particularly adept at using beautiful phrasing that gives XY/ML’s thoughts a lot of wonderful wonderful depth. STRONGLY recommend everyone to also go & read the real translations because this story is really well written and summaries can only do so much.

Is it bad that I wish something bad actually does happen to Casey? (Like actually getting kidnapped so that ML and XY can have happy times) 38-43 Spoiler 38 - XY sets off the alarm but gets attacked by the two infiltrators and left in the corner to die because they’re looking for Casey - XY realizes there’s a lot he still wants to do, go to the Amazon, see a certain person.. - ML’s team just came back from their mission, they rush in and find blood everywhere - ML kills one of the infiltrators, then pauses by a pool of blood… finds XY - XY is pretty much unconscious, feels someone forcing him to open his lips, gets kissed crazily, body wakes up with a vengeance and clings to a pair of broad shoulders… kissing back, basically loses himself in the kiss - interrupted by ML’s team on the comm, they found the other guy, he’s already got Casey - “Are you satisfied?” ML’s words are cold but he kneels down to make sure XY’s wound is really healed/gone - seems like ML’s hands trembled slightly - XY almost thinks its a dream that he was wounded until he sees the blood on the floor, connects it with him kissing someone senseless and ML’s words, realizes he actually made out with ML! - ML kills the guy that has Casey, saves the day, XY gives Casey a hug & Casey fakes being scared but is caught faking scared by ML - Casey gets upset and glares at ML like what’s it gotta do with you… basically Casey just wanted to cuddle with XY heh - 7 out of 12 of Caseys researchers were killed - ML is summed to the higher up Rear Admiral Gordon’s office and asked about how he saved XY, apparently XY’s safety was Jan’s responsibility - Gordon tries to talk to ML about how he compares to Jan… ML walks out - XY talking to Casey, suspects that there’s someone inside that’s a spy since Casey is supposed to have a breakthrough this month - people investigating the assault come to take Casey to ask more details - XY runs into Jan again 39 - Jan tells XY he’s now been assigned to protect him - XY’s all like wtf are you joking - Jan explains: Casey is special ops force protection, and because XY is starting on his own independent project, he’s now also under protection - Jan asks XY if he’d rather have Maya protect him, XY’s confused wondering why Maya even shows up in the conversation, proceeds to ignore Jan’s words as a joke - XY turns down Jan’s flirtations again, Jan follows XY home, apparently he can also get into his apartment as his bodyguard, XY’s still confused since he thinks he’s a B rank researcher and doesn’t deserve this treatment - Jan says he also wants to know what’s so special about him - They do their own thing, when it gets to bedtime Jan shows up again, tells XY that he was 3 seconds away from death, the only way ML could’ve saved him was by having sex or by kissing… since they probably didn’t have enough time for sex it must’ve been a kiss - Basically Jan is a jealous shithead - Jan kisses where XY was wounded … then gets all serious and says he hopes XY will believe him when he says he will protect him just as well as ML, they go sleep separately - Maya & Liv & team are discussing the recent bodyguard assignments, apparently Jan was ONLY willing to protect XY, nobody else - Maya goes back to his room after drinks, finds ML waiting for him - ML tells Maya to look after XY - XY is late to work the next day, works super hard, Jan watches him… 40 - XY asks “Hey, why do zombies not bite other zombies”? - Jan & XY discuss… the comet virus (that caused zombies) must have some self identifying mechanism, the X virus that’s derived from the comet virus must’ve had that part removed… XY runs off in the middle of eating to go back to research - XY works superhard till he falls asleep at the terminal, dreams of his ocean-scape again, runs into ML - It’s only been a few days since they’ve seen eachother but XY finds his heart filled with nameless longing (xiin-note: some of the MTL phrases are surprisingly poetic) - ML asks XY why he kisses him… XY despite knowing it might anger ML, answers that it’s because of the x virus addition - ML then grabs XY, since they’re in the ocean-scape, says “So now, this has nothing to do with the X virus” … kisses XY! With tongue! Like he won’t ever stop unless XY responds~ - XY's tongue tentatively moves.. and.. <insert heavy petting session> - XY just knows he wants this ice cold man to feel even just a tiny bit of pleasure - ML: “Really want to embrace you, but I’ll ruin you” - XY wonders again if ML is a figment of his imagination or a leftover or… - Wakes up & back to reality, XY doesn’t seem to remember much about it, Jan is still there… looks down, apparently he had a very ‘charming’ dream - XY is mortified, Jan tells him not to be embarrassed.. as long as his dream wasn’t about ML, apparently the more patient the person the scarier they are when they lose it - Alarms go off apparently a zombie got loose in the research station - Jan drags XY into a safe area and they watch as poor researchers are running around scared, XY tells Jan off for being heartless - Jan suggests a dare/bet - if he opens the door and he(XY) is unable to do anything, then tonight XY will belong to Jan - XY uses a freeze gun and shoots/freezes zombie brains, kills zombie but somehow freezes himself as well - Jan kisses him to heal him.. and then doesn’t stop - XY bites him to get himself free, says he doesn’t regret doing it to prove that he has the guts to attack - simultaneously says he’s proven that freezing a zombie will also kill it - Jan says he now knows why he wants to sleep with XY, then changes the topic saying he’ll treat him for dinner, takes him to a cozy restaurant, surprising XY (thought his taste would be different), Jan says he’s now taking every minute every second of his life seriously .. 41 - ML meeting with Rear Admiral Gordon again, they suspect zombie escaping incident was someone hacking into the system - ML suspects that people are after XY’s research, Gordon teases him for noticing/remembering a researcher - Jan & XY are eating.. outside is ML & Mark monitoring them on a screen, Mark exclaims that Jan is clearly trying to flirt, ML’s face is very very cold - Jan tells XY he chose to be special ops because he was tired of the monotony, of everything being planned/programmed, but the world outside is both wonderful & cruel, so he accepted the X virus, “if you can live 100 years worth of experiences in 10 years, does time even matter?” - Jan acts seductive, ML outside cracks the screen, Mark gulps and goes “Boss… it seems like you also think the rookie should follow us, huh…” - Jan & XY are attacked! They head for the back door, they end up in a relatively compromising position, Jan says it’s great for kissing, XY retorts that he’d bite off his tongue - Outside, ML tells Mark to hold on, since they want to catch the people at the root of the problem - Jan & XY escape to a car (it’s called maglev?) but the routes are locked, attackers have invaded the traffic system - XY uses the terminal on the maglev to connect back to the system & navigate, encounters hacker/blockers - XY’s trying to process, but starts panicking that he’s going to mess up and trap himself again… a cold force joins in and guides XY to counterattack, the enemy flees… XY realizes ML is in his brain - Jan cuts the connection to the terminal & saves XY just other maglev vehicles are about to collide, Jan gets seriously hurt but heals in 30 seconds o.o they head to the special forces HQ - ML jumps out of the transport, leaves mark & liv behind to deal with the spy in the ministry of transportation while he goes to deal with the defector in the special task force - Jan & XY are attacked by Cole, one of Jan’s subordinates that was a spy. Jan kills him, XY is calm about the killing - they run into more killers, XY’s neck gets cut… and ML saves him a-la-x-virus-kiss, they stop only when Jan reminds ML that XY’s gonna get addicted - Jan questions why ML is here, ML says it’s on orders, Jan says he’s going to clarify with superiors and drags XY away towards HQ - HQ is managed by Gordon, they barge into his office 42) - XY’s a target because he’s almost successfully synthesized a new variation of the X virus - the Research Center purposely put left him seemingly not that protected in order to use him as bait to pull out all the spies, ML was actually in charge of clearing them out & has therefore been watching all along - XY is surprised Gordon knows about his project - XY’s project is to try and make it so that zombies will recognize humans as their own kind and not attack (as in, the thing that makes zombies not bite other zombies) - Gordon tells XY that his giant processing power is the reason the tides organization is after him, because they (the enemy) has developed a new tech that uses the human brain to power all their processing… basically using their brains until they fry - XY’s brain has become their goal - XY is crushed. What happened to his low key life? - Jan & his team are assigned to a new task, to attack a tides base, in cooperation with ML’s team, along with a technician called Berry - ML shows up at the office .. breaks Jan’s arm for touching him(ML) in greeting - Jan says privately to ML that he knows what ML’s done.. sneaking into XY’s brain when he’s sleeping, saying that it will impact XY anyway making him have the illusion of falling in love, accuses ML of being even scarier than himself in getting what he wants (aka XY). ML doesn’t respond. - Jan rejects technician Berry, Gordon suggests XY instead, ML tries to change his mind but is overruled - Gordon mysteriously tells ML that only when a person approaches death again and again will they truly grow up (this is probably referencing way back when ML said that he’ll make XY grow to match him) - after XY & Jan leave to prepare, Gordon asks ML why he deviated from orders, ML doesn’t answer and instead says that he doesn’t understand the level of risk involved in sending XY outside (risk to himself(ML)) leaving gordon shocked - XY half jokes about getting the X virus since he’s so shitty at surviving, Jan actually says his most serious remark yet; “Your life, the longer it is, the more meaning there is to it.” “你的时间，越是长久才越有意义。” - Jan leaves, XY is packing, ML shows up, tells him his most important task is to protect himself and hugs him, XY feels super calm and safe and wishes it lasts forever - Mark calls out from outside saying they’re ready to go, XY comes back to himself to find that ML is already gone, wonders was it an illusion again? 43 - Maya comes to see them off, tells XY that no matter what happens, if he listens to ML he’ll be ok - They’re back on a mission! XY is on the same plane as ML’s team, Jan is on another plan. Team is excited, XY finally realizes he has no clue and asks about where they’re going - a cave, where tides has been doing secret research on zombies. The mutated zombie from before is assumed to be from this research center - Mark teases XY asking if he’s gotten his butt poked by Jan, XY retorts that maybe Mark was the one who got butt poked instead, everyone laughs, Jan comms the plane and calls XY ‘baby’, XY is awkward - They get to the cave, XY is brought underwater by ML - level 2 zombies at the entrance to the base, they slaughter them - XY hacks the base and opens the door, connecting to the system he finds/warns them that there’s something stronger than level 2 in there - they go in anyway - Jan & ML get into a pissing contest about who gets to hug/carry XY ML: we are on a mission. Jan: exactly, so we should determine ownership of XY ASAP. XY: What right of ownership? I'm a human being, not a tool! okay.. i'm 100% sure that there's more going on per chapter now (and they're longer) than before. 2AM need sleep
44-49 Spoiler 44 - Jan threatens to just kill XY so that they’ll be fair - as in, neither team gets him - ML backs off, leaves - XY & Jan’s team gets attacked, Jan pressures XY until he says he’s not angry before joining the fight - XY reflects that Jan and ML were totally different, ML is indifferent to killing whereas Jan enjoys it, but both are equally lethal - They make it to another floor, XY thinks he’s gonna die, reflects that Casey will be yelling at his name on the memorial for the rest of his life - XY tells Jan to be careful, there’s lots of monsters inside, Jan replies “Silly, I am also a monster.” (Xiin-note: is anyone else heartbroken by this? Omg) - XY uses the freeze gun to collab with Jan and kills two of the monsters, they fall through the floor and .. XY falls into ML’s arms, ML acting as a cushion to break his fall (Xiin-note: kinda glossed over the description of the space but I’m imagining it to be a series of rooms/levels kind of like in a RPG game where you have to clear areas in stages..) 45 - More slaughtering, they’ve reached the main control area of the base but their losses are not light - ML holds XY’s hand… reminds him that his mission is to make sure to live, and the zombies rush forward! - XY doesn’t want to be a burden, injects himself with a drug that he hasn’t yet tested, has no idea of the consequences, but feels like he must try - Zombies stop trying to attack him - apparently it works! But it only lasts 20 minutes because it’s still very unstable - But in 20 minutes is enough, people like Jan or ML can get a lot of things done.. all the zombies die - Jan asks XY how many more zombies they have, XY returns with “do you like monsters, or killers”? Jan: “what’s the difference”? The next door opens and it’s a bunch of killers. Jan: “ah. At least they’re cleaner than zombies.” - Liv & Sharon take XY to the terminal.. hacks his way through with brute force - They reach the center, it’s a giant lab with amazing equipment, they are conducting gene fusion to make new mutant zombies - Figure jumps over, it’s a researcher that’s injected himself with the X virus, he’s surprised that they made it this far. His name is Dylan - He infected Sharon with a “X virus accelerator”, which causes the virus to go crazy resulting in systemic organ and function failure. asks XY if he can save her, he comes up with something, injects her with it, but Sharon still dies - XY is in shock, Dylan says that there was nothing wrong with his calculations but he couldn’t catch up with the speed of the X virus.. and then gets beheaded by Liv - Liv knows they should get out but comforts XY instead, then they send out all the info from the base to their HQ. XY still sits there, numb, until ML & Jan shows up, XY tells them what happened emotionlessly 46 - they go back to the base, but XY is really depressed, blames himself for Sharon’s death because he was too weak, too slow, doesn’t want to do anything, just sits in his temporarily assigned room - midnight comes, ML shows up in his room, says he knows XY has a question to ask him. XY: “Am I dragging you down?” - ML: “No. To be precise, without you, we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish the task.” - their goal was to clear out the hidden base and transfer all the information, which they succeeded in doing, even Casey has a slower processing power and wouldn’t necessarily do better. ML points out that XY is blaming himself because of Dylan’s last statement on the X virus, but ML then tells him that Sharon’s last thought before she died was “XY, you’re going to change everything.” She believes he will do it. - ML tells him that he deals with watching his comrades get hurt/die “I remember them, and then move on.” If one day he(XY) hears of him, liv, or mark dying, he still needs to continue to move on. - ML asks if he knows of the butterfly effect, "A tiny mechanism, with the right direction and effort, will create a sensation, that is, 'revolution'. General Wenen is the guy assigned to their training, he reports to ML, says that if they have any complaints they’re free to go find ML - ML tells the researchers that the training is to help them keep their lives since their brains are now targets - one month of physical training followed by combat skills. Researchers can’t even make it 5 minutes before being super tired - they’re supposed to run for an hour - Wenen asks Mark as an aside about why ML is even here observing the training… Mark turns back and sees ML watching XY. Spoiler 56 - XY inputs Wen’s data into the battle simulation - Wen then makes XY fight against non special ops soldiers to see how he fares, surprisingly XY takes them all down despite getting light injuries, the soldiers think he must be a special forces recruit - XY works late doing research, disconnecting from the terminal he finds ML who asks why his face is all bruised up, kisses him, XY kisses back - XY convinces himself again that it’s just to help him heal - Seeing the hermit crab when he gets back to his room he realizes that he’s just like the crab, needing a strong shell to protect him. He wants to get truly strong to catch up.. falls asleep thinking about the X virus - more training with ML - XY develops a new drug, a variant of the X virus that stimulates the X virus strength. Trying it on himself, he’s caught by ML who almost kills him for daring to inject himself with the X virus before he can explain that he didn’t - Even so, XY asks why he shouldn’t become stronger to protect themselves - ML tells XY anyone else can inject themselves with the X virus, but he(XY) cannot - New virus/drug is called X-2 57 - XY explains to ML about X-2 after seeing disappointment in ML’s eyes, tells him it’s not very successful, it only lasts for a short period of time. He expects ML to not really believe him, afterall it’s been the topic of research for a long time and nobody else has come up with anything close. - ML believes him, makes XY promise to 1) not tell anyone else 2) only try the drug under his supervision. XY agrees - XY passes the combat training final test, Gordon gives him the rank of Lieutenant. Everyone celebrates. - After celebration, Casey is sending a secret message to someone: “Hey, when will you be back? It’s the original location of the comet virus (that brought zombies). They need to evacuate all personnel and get as much samples of the comet virus as they can - ML is receiving orders, Gordon & ML decide between taking Casey or XY, finally decide to take XY - XY takes a new freeze gun & X-2 samples with him to the mission. - On the way there, Mark, Liv & the team tell XY his role is to get as much out of the research as possible before they have to shut down the base, then give XY respectful silence to organize his thoughts 60 - At the base they’re greeted by Colonel Luther, who is older than SB - Luther is shocked that the ‘research team’ they expected is just a sole XY, gets upset at ML for bringing a mere Lieutenant, ML responds that he only brings useful people, shutting Luther up - They have 3 hours left. They waste no time heading to the central research area, Luther commands that they open up a terminal, ML overrides telling them to open up all terminals, Luther is puzzled then shocked watching XY connect & process all the current research in 3 seconds “is he even human?” - Their time is cut short by another bomb, ML orders everyone except himself and XY to clear out to safety, trying to give XY as much time as possible with the data. - ML & XY are the last ones out, they run into killers from the tides org while leaving in an underwater tunnel. XY uses X-2 to fight alongside ML, ML gets wounded before they make it back to Mark & the others - They make it back to the transports, X-2 runs out, XY is tired but worried about ML, ML is fine, but lets XY touch his stomach (where he was wounded) for reassurance. Falls asleep from using X-2 & doing all that massive computing but is woken up by ML when they’re attacked by the tides org again in the sky 61 - Luther’s plane is downed, but their escape pods are successfully ejected, XY is worried but ML tells him to focus on getting their plane to safety first. XY links to/pilots all the remaining aircraft, while ML acts as a shield to defend against all the blocker/hackers “没有人能入侵他的大脑，因为有我在。” "No one can invade his brain, because I'm there." - Linking brains with ML is a new experience for XY, the tacit understanding & trust is very high, Liv watches in the sidelines and sighs, “Is there even anyone that can beat the two of them?” - They’re successful in taking down all the tides attackers. The evacuees from the Antarctic base are sent ahead back to Charles, XY stays with ML and they look for Luther - Due to the linking of brains, XY is still immersed in the feeling of being close to ML, unconsciously reaches out and links fingers with ML. Instead of pulling away, ML twines their fingers together further, but is too strong and it hurts. Because their brains are linked, ML can feel the pain and tries to draw away. XY & ML kill off the killers, XY using the X-2 virus again. Luther thinks XY has X virus until ML tells him that it’s a “drug under development”. Regardless, Luther is very admiring of this young lieutenant - They contact SB’s base, their reinforcements will arrive in 10 minutes - ML tells XY to push past the tiredness for another 10 minutes and he’ll let him sleep - XY gives the freeze gun to Luther, uses a knife to help fend off the zombies. Luther is even more impressed, but also acknowledges that there’s no way all technicians can be this amazing - SB arrives in 8 minutes! 62 - they leave & make it back to base, meet with SB again. Charles will send troops to pick them up in 3 hours - XY falls asleep as they’re discussing arrangements, when the quartermaster assigns rooms, ML wordlessly picks up XY and takes him to his room. SB is shocked, but sees Liv & Mark continuing on like it’s nothing unusual. He wonders what has happened in the past year - ML & XY reach the room, XY wakes up fuzzily, is told he has another 2 hours to rest - XY says if ML hadn’t been there today, XY might’ve died referring to their fight underwater in ch60, ML says XY won’t die because he’s destined to remain by his side, XY is surprised ML even responded, ML gets up to leave but is held back by XY (even tho he can easily break away) - XY tries to kiss ML but ML dodges at the last moment and XY kisses his cheek instead - XY tells ML he doesn’t have to expend so much effort to protect him, says ML is a legend already and irreplaceable. ML says he can be replaced in the eyes of people, but in ML’s eyes XY is irreplaceable - Hearing this, XY feels like suddenly he’s not so far away from ML. XY: “colonel.. I always want to watch you. Gordon comments on ML’s blind trust - From now on, XY is no longer allowed to enter any non-independant terminal system without prior consent because there’s too much in his brain - XY wakes up to ML in his room, they quietly watch eachother for a while, then.. Really? Guess I remembered it a little wrong. Honestly what stuck to me in their first time was the sudden call while they were starting to do it. Iirc, ML said they were doing it to the one who called. It was funny cause he was too straightforward.

Random tidbit: Heine’s name gets MTLed as “Sea Bug” a lot. It’s strangely cute. Also - there’s been lots of mention of XY chasing after ML’s “answer”, and/or ML giving XY an “answer” when he’s strong enough. I’ve been using the word “answer” since MTL tends to use it (and because it seemed to make sense at the time) but to clarify more the actual words are 答案, which can also mean ‘answer, solution, key, result’. It’s just one of those words that doesn’t perfectly translate. Closest is probably that they’re both chasing after/wanting to have a “certain result”. 63-69 awesome convo in 66, steamy bits @68 o.o Spoiler 63 - XY focusing on research, even the outside world & news of Lily holds no appeal, Maya thinks that his head is full of research, XY laughs inside - his brain is not thinking of research all the time, it’s pursuing an answer! - Ai & Gordon are watching XY in his research, discussing how to keep him safe, Gordon says everyone is underestimating the special forces & XY himself - Alarms go off. Zombies are let loose in the compound, it’s an attack! XY realizes the aim is for himself, XY injects himself with X-2 and gets through the first wave alone - XY connects to the terminal to try and open his research room door (he was locked inside), but when he connects he gets hacked. XY has never encountered a hacker trying to pry info from his brain - usually they try to destroy his brain, so at a loss, he can only split up the information in his head and send it in different directions so that it delays the attacker - ML to the rescue, pries XY away from the computer. Jan also comes to the rescue. They bring XY to see Ai & Gordon - XY has lengthened the X-2 virus duration to 21 minutes. Ai makes a comment that also inspires XY’s research 64 - As they discuss how/where to keep XY, he realizes he’s become the tides org’s most important goal - XY gets his own lab, his own space independent of others to contain the info. He’s also not given any researchers. Ai tells him the most perfect protection is still himself. The more complicated his brain is, the harder it will be to capture - After XY leaves, Gordon & Ai assign ML to protect XY’s brain even when he’s doing research, ML says that he won’t be able to protect him forever - Gordon & Ai understand what he means… because of the X virus, it’s unlikely that ML will even make it another 2 years - But, if he can develop X-2, then none of this will be a problem - XY goes back to his room to rest, falls asleep looking at ML. Has a nightmare that his brain is no longer in his body and in a Petri dish instead, forced to think, constantly.. - ML wakes him up, tells him his brain is still in his head and that his nightmare won’t happen because he(ML) is by his side - They end up talking about fears, ML tells XY he also has fears, he’s afraid that the person he wants to protect won’t be able to protect themselves after ML leaves. They kiss. - After dinner, XY realizes he’s now got 6 special forces for protection. They then go for more grappling/combat training 65 - Next day, XY runs into Casey in the cafeteria, apologizes to Casey for not telling him about his research on X-2, promises to share his research in the future. ML comes in and coldly announces he’s not allowed to exchange research content. Conversation dies. - Because of the recent hacker attempt, XY is reluctant to connect to the research terminals, and avoids them completely for the next few days. ML notices, but doesn’t say anything - ML goes on a mission, XY gets anxious because they’re not together - ML & team comes back from their mission, ML looks gorgeous in formal military uniform - glistening badges, graceful ribbons, perfect waist outlined.. - Management has decided that ML will go into the terminal with XY to protect him, and he must learn how to block against hackers. To learn, XY has to try and get into ML’s brain and get a piece of information - In ML’s brain, there’s no direction, no ups or downs, there’s a maze, then mirrors, XY gets lost, fails - To teach XY a lesson for failing, ML kisses him with ‘a killing kiss’(?) that’s brutally painful, but XY can’t escape since he’s trapped in his mind. ML continues the kiss, it hurts so much it’s like dying, can’t breathe.. - ML: if you don’t want it, just leave (his head) - XY struggles, each kiss is crazier than the last, realizes that he’s been confused by all of ML’s previous gentleness, and forgot about the ML’s cruel side! 66 - XY finally escapes after ML gives him another hint, back to reality Mark asks if he’s ok, XY is drenched in sweat, ML is still sitting there looking like nothing’s happening - XY can’t even stand up, he’s in a daze, Mark accuses ML of scaring the shit out of XY, ML gets up and approaches XY, XY asks “Why.. why did you do that” - ML helps XY wipe off the sweat on his face, has a cold expression but clearly a gentle attitude, and says “When you feel very safe, there will be no desperate determination.” - ML asks XY what he learned, XY replies with “Don’t believe everything that you feel.”, ML says he passed the first lesson & leaves - XY wonders, ML has millions of ways to show him what fear is, but why use that method? - Mark says it’s surprising that ML has let XY into his head, tells him that the previous head of the Academy of Research, Reynolds, didn’t actually get assassinated, he defected to the tides org and SB & ML were sent to try and hypnotise him - Nobody knows what happened, but SB has damaged his neurons and can no longer do any brain infiltration tasks. And ML, who used to be a very promising student researcher, instead applied to the special ops force despite all protests. The subsconscious is a terrible place. Everyone in the army thought that he would never enter anyone’s subconscious or let anyone connect to his brain ever again, but.. XY has disrupted these assumptions - XY remembers how ML went into his brain to save him when he trapped himself, and wonders… - At the cafeteria, they run into Casey again. Casey encourages XY and then gives him a kiss on the forehead, XY is certain ML saw it - Back at the research room, ML orders XY to connect to the terminal and continue his research, telling him his brain is not as vulnerable as he thinks - XY hesitates, ML: “If you have any questions, you’d better ask me now.” - XY reflects that he’s always felt completely transparent in front of ML, with no room to hide XY: You’ve seen my subconscious. ML: Yes. XY: What’s it like? Was it scary like everyone says? ML: No. XY: So what do you see? Mark (from the side): I’m.. going to go … find liv now.. ML: Blue sea, endless, moon-white sand, a piece of starry sky XY: Why does it sound like you’ve been in my brain more than once? ML: Yes. XY: !?!? How is that possible? ML: You often fall asleep still connected to the system. I only need to find you, and enter you. (Xiin-note: the last ‘enter you’ 进入你 is .. a perfect translation. Even XY’s heartbeat speeds up hearing that. Such blatant innuendo heh heh) - XY realizes that all the hallucinations/fantasies that he’s had that made him think he was crazy, were all actually made by ML entering his brain! - XY asks ML why, since Mark says he doesn’t go into anyone’s subconscious anymore. He feels like his understanding of ML is so different from reality. - ML says it’s because his subconscious is the most reassuring place he’s ever been to, XY suddenly has the feeling that … maybe this seemingly indifferent man has had unusual feelings for himself since a long time ago? ML: “In the subconscious world, I can unreservedly let you feel pain/pleasure because of me, and you will clearly know that the person embracing you is me.” XY clearly sees himself reflected in the eyes of ML, vividly so. ML comes closer, slides fingers over XY’s eyebrows, rubs his knuckles over the tip of his nose, every touch unbelievably gentle. ML: “There more than a lifetime of things that I want to do to you.” XY tips his head back, listening to that cold, unfazed tone saying such intimate words. ML” So, you must get stronger.” - they stare at eachother for a long time, XY is in a daze all afternoon - XY realizes something, looks for results on ML’s X virus blood report, and finds it encrypted - it can only mean one thing, that he has less than 2 years left, the X virus is too strong and he doesn’t have much time left - XY wonders how ML must’ve felt when he said that there was a lifetime of things he wanted to do… He always felt that even if he wasn’t as strong as ML, at least they can be together. But why didn’t ML bring up his blood tests to XY? - XY mocks himself, thinking that ML is the type to bear everything inside, including death. This is why ML is always kissing him so wildly in his head, because maybe it’s the last one. - XY can’t sleep that night, thinking hard, realizing that he hasn’t thought so hard in a long time. (Heh, he’s actually thinking hard about ML, not research) - Next day, XY finally connects to the terminal again, determined to do his best to think more than ever before, because 因为时间不等人 time waits for nobody. XY’s thoughts: What “more than a lifetime worth of things”! What a joke! My existence will not allow you to leave! - Connected to the terminal, his processing speed is enough to set off alarms at Gordon’s office. Gordon allocates him even more power. XY: … 67 - Mark reflects that from that day on, XY has become more bold and cold, even him(XY) ordering him(Mark) around feels natural - Even during lunch, he barely eats, until ML shows up and makes it an order - XY asks for ML’s blood, tries to explain, ML cuts him off “I don’t need to know the reason, as long as you want it.” XY’s mouth twitches, what do you mean “as long as you want it”? Shouldn’t it be “as long as it’s needed for research”? If ML continues to talk like that, his brain won’t be able to take it - One month of research later, XY has a better understanding of the X virus. It takes energy from the host’s body to work, so eventually the body becomes an empty shell. The faster the virus replicates, the more energy is burned. What XY needs to do is reverse how the virus gets energy, then it will be perfect! - Blocker training still happening with ML, XY is still nervous, apparently XY’s thinking is too shallow, ML tells him that thinking/subconscious can be infinitely deep - Just before entering the terminal, XY blurts out “Will you do those things again?” ML: “If you’re referring to doing you, of course.” XY is speechless - ML takes XY on a journey through his(ML) memories of him. Sniffing at a leaf, sleeping, getting hurt.. feels ML’s fear that XY will die.. - ML tells XY he’s passed this lesson, they’re quiet on the way back to XY’s rooms. At the door, XY tries to kiss ML, is shoved inside the room by ML, saying that the corridor is monitored - They make out on the couch, ML tries to tell XY not to tease him anymore because he can’t afford the consequences, but his warning doesn’t scare XY because XY believes that he won’t hurt him. XY puts his head on ML’s shoulder and tells him “I will solve everything.” “我会解决一切问题的。” - Next day, XY sees Casey as usual, Jan shows up, there is friction between him and ML, Jan tells ML that he should hide his possessiveness, XY agrees to train with Jan the next day - After they leave ML corners XY, tells him Jan is right, he’s really not able to hide his possessiveness anymore, and he(XY) can never be attracted to Jan. Seems like ML is jealous of the X virus addition, saying if Jan kissed him, then why is ML holding back? They go back to XY’s rooms and make out 68 - ML grips XY’s waist, embracing him firmly, XY has an illusion, as if oneself was born to belong to this man - XY is pushed down onto the mattress, wrists held down besides his ears, suddenly the object of his desire is pulling away. rational thought comes back, ML is still on top of him, with an attitude of completely possessing him. “Do you know who is kissing you?” XY: “Heine Burton” ML” Remember, this has nothing to do with the X virus.” - A long unbroken kiss, the other’s hand is stroking firmly downwards, every stroke is like a transfer of power, XY’s mouth is open, forgetting how to breathe, lost in ML’s ice blue eyes. XY wants to cry out, but the sound is lost with the strength of the other’s fingers. ML kisses XY’s lower lip again, when XY tries to kiss back, ML raises his head, XY can only reach his throat. His blood is pounding, XY has no ability to withstand this dangerous pleasure, his leg is rubbing/wrapped against ML, the other side responds with more forceful kisses and frantic rubbing. - In the moment of bliss, XY’s eyes are blurred, indistinct. Breathing hard, unable to return to the world. The body pressing him down leaves slowly, back to the sofa, tipping his head back with a heavy sigh, as though having gone through hardships before finally suppressing the wild waves. - XY comes back to himself, looks at ML’s perfect face.. what just happened? Stumbles to the shower. ML gives no response, still motionless on the sofa. “I’m screwed…” - Sleepless night. - The next day, they’re attacked!! First attack on Charles city in 200 years! - XY & ML & team are in the research room, XY is researching to get his mind off ML - Gordon gives orders to Jan, telling him to make sure the president is safe. Jan says all is well, asks after XY. - Meantime, ML tells XY to take what is most important, and destroy all data. XY realizes it’s an emergency. He saves it all into a microchip that gets embedded in ML’s body. They leave the room, XY is carrying a bottle of pink solution. - ML is attacked, it’s a special ops girl called Claire from the tides org. They’re after XY! Claire is stalled by Mark & Liv, ML then gets intercepted by a pair of twin brothers (they showed up before in a previous attack but are cannon fodder lol), kills them. - They run past Casey’s room, XY stops & finds that casey has been stabbed, XY turns & asks ML to save him.. 69 - suddenly Casey laughs, pulls out the blade that he was stabbed with, right hand is holding an injection gun. XY sees that ML is clutching his leg. “Casey, what did you do?” - Casey tells him, everyone thought he was researching X-2, but c’mon, if his brain processing power is about the same as XY’s, how come XY can have a breakthrough while Casey has no progress? Casey says he’s been working instead on an accelerator for the X virus, causing it to speed up it’s consumption of all the host’s fitness/energy. ML looks the same as ever, but XY feels an ominous foreboding. - Casey tells XY to go with him, he will protect him(XY) - Casey strips off his bloodied clothes, he’s actually perfectly fine underneath. Tells XY he was injected with the X virus at birth. Because of that he has a longer lifespan than the adults injected who only have 10 years. He believes that with him & XY working on it together, they can solve the problem of the X virus - XY demands the antidote from Casey, Casey refuses saying that he will remember this man(ML) and refuse to go with him(Casey). The entire air raid was planned to take him(XY) away. - XY suddenly attacks, fractures Casey’s sternum, causing Casey to fall back. Casey finally notices the syringe in XY’s hand, he had injected himself with X-2. XY runs out with an incapacitated ML. XY’s eyes are cold. He will never forgive Casey for attacking ML! - XY brings ML to a research room, ML is trying to get XY to leave, to run “走。就算不是今天，我的时间本来就不多。” “Go. Even if it’s not today, I originally also didn’t have much time left.” - XY wipes the sweat off ML’s forehead, calmly saying “Trust me, you still have a lot of time life.” Plunges the pink solution into ML’s leg. You wanted me to be the butterfly to lead the change, but I really don’t want to change anything, I only want to change your destiny.” - XY drops ML into a hidden lab, leaves and continues to run away - Casey finds XY, they fight, XY is about to kill Casey for harming ML when a black haired man shows up, fights XY. New guy called Jerry, is full of praises for XY’s fighting ability - XY threatens to kill himself, about to do it, saying that his research has been completed, pulls the trigger but the gun is shot away by Jan. Wasn’t Jan supposed to be by the president’s side? - Realizes that Jan is also a spy! Tries to attack him, but Jan evades easily, saying “I warn you, if you continue to use things that ML has taught you to deal with me, I will do you until you want to die!”

I find that this novel is very easy to MTL (might be cuz I'd suffered through a lot of xianxia settings and this is kind of a blessing to read after that torture ), try it peeps, it's definitely a must read novel in my book (currently at chap 49 lol). ML is like super cute tsundere (?) but gosh, his words are super flowery and romantic when he's in MC's subconscious. Tho ML still eats MC's tofu without MC truly knowing cuz MC thought all those are his illusions/ a way for ML to heal his injuries LOL I still find the chapter where ML said he would prefer to die in MC's subconscious as super touching scene *goes back to reading* Dear lord, why is every chapter getting longer and longer?
tides org is after eternal life (based off research from the comet virus/x-virus) whereas charles city/XY's side seems to be more focused on creating a fair society. there's more on tides in the upcoming chapters. also re: security.. agreed lol. but since it's a summary i did skip a fair bit of details from the actual attack - there were at least 6 planes, they made a feint for the president so that they could get to XY, etc. that occurred to me too... it's surprisingly quite easy to understand via MTL. at least there aren't a million skill names and cultivation methods to remember hah.
