Wu Guen's parents were awash with tears, clinging to their son in an emotional manner. His father even complained that he should never have let his boy join the cultivators of that sect, such a no good worthless Purple Cloud Chasing Peak was not worthy of his son.

All of them wanted to take their sons home. Home to make descendants. Home where it was safe and they would not have to fear their loss again.

Watching the reunited families, Wang An felt irrepressibly bitter but that subsided as Shifu patted his arm gently.

He still had Shifu and in terms of brothers, he had his brother disciples, right?

As for his brides...

He'd taken certain precautions,of course. The contracts he had made them spill themselves on being one of them. He could always look for some new playmates but still! They were his!

Wang An felt rather wronged... but it was for their own good if they left. For now.

These two covered the high and mighty strong and proud cultivator cannon fodder.

I know that there is the standard scheming male lead prince who thinks so much of himself that he discards the 'mc's' engagement because the 'mc' is trash and he wants to marry someone else upon which time the 'mc' makes themselves awesome cue standard transmigrated female novel shenanigans or whatever.

That right there is an excellent cannon fodder harem material.

In their first life 'mc' was used by the ML/FL to the point of exhaustion and then discarded (via poisoning, assassination, execution) when they had no more use. After their death, 'mc' woke up in their younger self body and vowed that in this life to make those who had wronged them pay (revenge). How about the villian who stole his relative's cultivation root for himself? (History number 1's founder, first disciple)
The villian drugged his relative's fiance and slept with him so he can have the fiance for himself.
The villian killed his friend and planted himself in the friend's family (Ghost Doctor)
As for @Azurite 's example, the trope would be the villian used the people around him to death, I think.
Gonna add more if I remember them.

Cannon fodder list:

1) Ex-lover - Basically what you mentioned

2) Love rival - The standard, I hate that he loves you so I will try to poison/disfigure/get you raped. Only to get the tables turned on them and in the extreme case, tortured, raped, then killed. The 'Big Boss' will be those ex-leads from transmigration or rebirth novels

3) Standard arrogant spoiled geniuses - Ao Jiang and Wu Guen basically

4) Vengeful relative/lover/teacher/student - The 'next boss' when no.3 is killed and they want revenge for the death of their loved one. This one always struck me wrong, because, yes the original villain was in the wrong, but after having your loved one killed (usually tortured and humiliated first), you expect the people who love them to just stand aside?? Hypocrites .

5) Power is arrogance - These are the teachers, elders, etc who used to look down on the MC and ignore them, then get their face slapped so badly you could see the redness from space. Lesser versions are those who, after years of experience dealing with arrogant kids, decide not to listen to the MC, only to get embarrassed.... For your purpose, can also be seniors from other peaks who once looked down on the 'book worms'.

6) Selfish ingrates - Cannon fodder who could have been the MC's brothers/allies but decide to look out for their own interest and back stab/abandon the MC when it suits them. Would have been great at the game 'Diplomacy'.

7) Seductress - also known as, 'where is my self-respect'. Basically the people who love the MC, attack the MC's harem and basically get killed because they want the MC for themselves

8) Misc cannon fodder - Those poor sods that associated with the wrong sect, never came face to face with the MC, didn't even have a name mention, unless it is one line in >1000 chapters but got killed off because the author wanted to kill off the whole sect/clan/family/world as the higher ups decided to annoy the MC

This one always struck me wrong, because, yes the original villain was in the wrong, but after having your loved one killed (usually tortured and humiliated first), you expect the people who love them to just stand aside?? Hypocrites .

5) Power is arrogance - These are the teachers, elders, etc who used to look down on the MC and ignore them, then get their face slapped so badly you could see the redness from space. Lesser versions are those who, after years of experience dealing with arrogant kids, decide not to listen to the MC, only to get embarrassed.... For your purpose, can also be seniors from other peaks who once looked down on the 'book worms'.

6) Selfish ingrates - Cannon fodder who could have been the MC's brothers/allies but decide to look out for their own interest and back stab/abandon the MC when it suits them. Would have been great at the game 'Diplomacy'.

7) Seductress - also known as, 'where is my self-respect'. Basically the people who love the MC, attack the MC's harem and basically get killed because they want the MC for themselves

8) Misc cannon fodder - Those poor sods that associated with the wrong sect, never came face to face with the MC, didn't even have a name mention, unless it is one line in >1000 chapters but got killed off because the author wanted to kill off the whole sect/clan/family/world as the higher ups decided to annoy the MC

Same. What is pride? Can you eat it? Same mindset as them. (Well not exactly for situations liken this but the statement atill stands)

Also i can't help but be reminded of the consummatuon night for weddings then they go home to meet the in laws. (I mean its not....not really but i can't help but be reminded of that)
