Which of these terms would you pick?

  1. Top-Bottom. (English, please.)

    33.3%
  2. Gong-Shou (Chinese, I want to keep the flavour)

    34.5%
  3. Seme-Uke (Japanese just because...)

    32.2%

I want to know which term readers would prefer I use more often when referring to BL couples individually. I'm translating from Chinese.

What I know is that for readers that read yaoi manga, are more used on seme-uke but if its tled from Chinese some are more used on top-bottom

Uke/seem or top/bottom for me. Because it sounds more familiar. Although getting familiar with the Chinese terms isn't so bad, either.

:aww: Uke - Seme for me. Though top-bottom is also good.

However, the danmei projects I have do not really use these terms much.

You should use the original terms e.g. Chinese

    Use the english m8.
Encountering a japanese term in a chinese novel is kinda...
    Well, yknow...
    Awkward to read from.
Give the impression that the chinese author is a weeboo (or whatever you spell it with).. even when he/she is not.

I personally prefer top-bottom since its tled from chinese since uke -seme has too much japanese vibe using the Chinese term feels a bit awkward especially if there are too many pinyin used

Would say top-bottom simply because you can't really expect all readers to understand japanese or chinese slang when translating into english.

If you're gonna translate danmei to English, stay faithful to English and use the English term, I guess. Or the use of Chinese term is fine too. With regular usage, the term would be a norm, just like how tsundere, chuuni is understandable in the community. But you might want to include it in footnotes what they refer to for the sake of translations and new readers.

P/s: I still rage at the use of the word kitsune in Mai Kitsune Waifu eventho I've stopped reading the novel.

I'm translating a transmigration novel with system but the main couple is straight, it's just that there are some arcs that deal with this and I thought I'd ask this now instead of waiting.

...I'm actually beginning to suspect the author is a weeaboo lol
She uses a lot of slang and literally uses the chinese version of the japanese expression "chotto matte kudasai"...
 <- This was me when I looked it up.
