    Well you've never had an original idea in your life so I'm curious why you'd say that

    The funny part is you did that first by quoting one sentence of my earlier reply and ignoring the rest. I just took things to their logical conclusion.

    I think the pages of comments will speak for themselves.

    lmao couldn't have said it better myself, now if someone sees this thread they'll see how you've been echoing what everyone else is saying and how pathetic of a circle jerk this is. And you know what the best part of you making fake quotes is? When they click the arrow on the quote it will go to what I ACTUALLY said, not what you altered it to be. But you cold always edit that out too

    so me ignoring something you said because it had no value is somehow the same as manipulating text to say something completely different? Wow. So not only did your mother not love you but she also failed to teach you common sense

    Where did I say that female characters feel opressed?
    According to your argumentation, your opening statement already was a non-canon deduction, because the author never said that the female was sexist. It was something you deduced (and possibly rightfully so) based on something she said.

    Bait thread? Sure, why not. Women who are sexist in xianxia always end up coming to a bad end or have to rely on a man to save their lives... and then they fall in love with him and stop being sexist. If it's a sect of sexist women, a calamity comes to them (because they're all beautiful women) and a man ends up saving them and they all dedicate themselves to him. So yes, their sexism is treated as a problem that needs to be cured by the protagonist and not as the proper way of things.
    Meanwhile, sexist men (for instance, every male xianxia protagonist) never have any problems because they treat women like pets. Instead, whenever a woman has the potential to be strong, she ends up needing to be saved by the male protagonist and becoming the subservient harem member that the main character believes she should be. ... Though he might only accept one wife, usually because the author's wife is reading the novel.

    Let's not pretend that women in Xianxia aren't treated as nothing but arm candy and tools to form ties between families and clans.

    What an odd OP. The kind of sexism described looks to be directly descended from Gu Long's writing. And while there is a lot of sexism in Gu Long's writing, it's also clearly born out of misogyny. I don't read xianxia, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same kind of thing.

    I don't have a direct source because I don't read Chinese, but I've seen in a few places now that Er Mu (author of Release That Witch) was forbidden from making it a harem by his wife.

    identity politics? there must be name for this cherry picking as any marginal group will work.

    Women empowerment -> misogynist pig
    Gay acceptance -> homophobic pig
    Trans acceptance -> transphobic (transcendent?) pig
    pedo acceptance! -> next one ?

    So there is no labeling in novel, only by some readers who may or may not have agenda.

    First of all, aren't some women in real life sexist? They are, lot of them. I don't see the reason to not despict such characters in literature. You are fine with censoring culture, because it's hurts your manly feelings? So adult of you.
    Moreover, most of chinese and japanese fantasy novels have sexist setting, but not anti-male one. Women are generally used to highlight MC awesomness, they have shallow, one dimensional personalities and they fall for MC without any credible reason (Xianxia is slighty better in this regard, due to fact that japanese protagonist tend to be disgusting Betas). Which is fine, because this kind of novel are writen for young men, who like to self-insert into heroes and conquer hearts (and bodies) of women.
    That kind of novels also have "hierachy based on strenght" setting, which easly could explain sexist (also racist, nationalistic etc) attitude. If you are hurt by some group of people, and rest of the world justifies it, becouse obiously they were stronger so thats make them right, you WILL hate them. It's just human nature.
    Finally, out-of-context quote means nothing. If in that novel men are portraited as losers and cannon fodder, then you are right that is case of misoandry. Are they?

    Haha, so basically, the female equivalent of a sexist Xianxia story would be if the female MC went around killing (mostly) only girls, and raping every jade-like hot guys she comes across.

    ...

    I'm a girl and even I don't even want to read that. :blobtired:

    Well, I have to admit that's a rather... disturbing plot idea. Pretty sure the "Female Rapist - Male Victim" in fiction is (although sometimes happening in RL) limited to porn.:blobunsure:

    But if we're going for that, the male equivalent of a typical female lead Xianxia story would be a male doctor/assassin crossing over & becoming the prior unwanted child of a relative powerful family, having the main FL making passes at him 24/7, while other males get jealous of him and... :hmm:... Isn't that a normal Xianxia story without harem?
