I would use 我家附近 instead. 我家旁边 implies that the restaurant is right next to your house.

旁边 has a stronger physical connotation compared to 附近, so what @ongoingwhy said would still fit better if what you said was the case.
附近 has this kind of weird connotation of a not-really-physical concept of being "nearby", as in the sense of "closest compared to all others" or the fact it represents an area and not just objects.
旁边 is best used for quite literal situations, where's there no gap between the subject and object, so they're right next to each other.

附近的省都在用新出的教材 compared to 旁边的省都在用新出的教材
They both mean roughly the same things, but you get kinda different tones in the magnitude of it all, with the second sentence being of a smaller scale.

In Chinese, usually say "做运动" instead of "做锻炼". "锻炼" is usually used as a verb.
You can say "每天我都带上我的狗狗一起去公园锻炼身体。"

If so, you'd better say "如果你想知道的话，请在论坛上发个帖子。"
“得知” usually means that somebody has known something. For example, 当他得知自己被骗后，觉得自己像个傻瓜（when he knew he was cheated, he felt like a fool）。

Darn studied Chinese for about 8 years now but after not using it often,I can at most still read and understand complicated sentences but reading chapters raws takes too much time...can’t even write essays with Chinese anymore...

I googled some examples of 宁可 and don’t see the results as necessarily 不好的 or 好的. This question is not meant to cast aspersions.... is that possibly regional usage? I have native Mandarin speaking friends from mainland China, Taiwan, and other places like the Philippines, who range in ages (20’s to 60’s). Some live overseas, some have been in the US for decades. I encounter a decent amount of disagreement on how things should be said. An example is a while back I was reading a popular kids book series (查理九世) which is from mainland China. The 说法 seemed really different so I took a snapshot of a page and send it to a friend in Taiwan. He said that it read like “Google translate”, those were his words. I sent the same page to a friend who lives here. The friend, who is from Shanghai, said that the writing was typical, nothing unusual.

 

Since 宁可 is used like, I would rather this and this than to this and this, I would think that normally one would rather walk than to drive.
Maybe just the comparison between walking and driving didn't work out well for me in my head.
What I meant wasn't aspersions but instead, it's like choosing between two evils?
Maybe it's a regional thing or maybe I'm wrong ~ I'd say the latter though since I did slack off on my Mandarin for the past few years so (´・ω・｀)
