You know there is a series on Royalroadl about a man who becomes a skeleton. The series opens inside his house after his daughter and wife have just been raped and killed by two bandits. They use a spell (acid rain) to melt off his flesh and kill him. Kind of overkill, but I guess it was because the other didn't want him coming back as a zombie. Anyway, he revives due to his hatred and goes on a small killing spree. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called, Litch something, he ends up marrying a giant spider.
Small chests are fine too You probably have read this, but I'm recommending this just to be sure. Same author and a spin off of Everybody loves large chests.

You two would probably like the spin off series of Everybody Loves Large Chests, Small Chests Are Fine Too. ...also, the name of the first is partially a pun, with the second having a relation to the pun of the first, as the MC of the first starts out as a Dungeon Mimic.
