How to snort?

In Chinese novels snorting can be seen scattered all over conversations. However I have a hard time "snorting." I used to believe that snorting produces the same sound as what pigs do *oink* or what I do when snoring while asleep or sneezing.

"You are just a cripple!", Wu Bei snorted.

In this piece of dialogue when does the actual "snorting" happen?
"*snort*You are just a cripple!"
"You are just a cripple!*snort*"
"*snort*You are just a cripple!"snort""
"*snort*You*snort*are*snort*just*snort*a*snort*cripple!"snort"" (might sound like a pig here)

Also, there are other forms of snorting such as coldly, arrogantly etc. I also believe that it is important to distinguish between other sound effects such as a "harumpf"

Google defines it as:
an explosive sound made by the sudden forcing of breath through one's nose, used to express indignation, derision, or incredulity.

I literally googled "How to snort?" and got result on how to snort cocaine and other form of drugs. Also tried on Youtube and got similar results.

I have tried to "snort" but the resulting sound is close to a "harumpf" or a "huh." If I try really hard it sound like snoring or a pig's *oink* or a sneeze. I invite you to try snorting. How do Chinese people sound when snorting? Please provide a video or something.

One of the most misleading threads I've seen, but yeah, i agree with you on the fact that snorting is confusing. My opinion of it is just some kind of harumpf like u said, but less piggy-ish.

Its more or less just a very quick, forceful exhale from the nose. Almost like a sneeze, but less explosive reflex.

 

Good thing all these immortals usually can't get sick. Imagine all the snot flying otherwise.

 

i think snort is like when u get cold and so many snot in your nose and try to inhale snot back inside
