Random thing that’s been bugging me since I came back from Japan: can you bring a katana/other sharp object of rather large size on an airplane? I wanted to buy a sword from Japan, but was too scared security was going to call me into an office for a little chat. (In a language I don’t know) Bought a ninja star and got it through the whatsamacallit inaccessible luggage though
I think you can, as long as its on a luggage and you have permit for owning them, or just send it through mail
Just dont bring it in your carry on and youll be fine. They will even confiscate your ffvii cloud strife miniature sword... Trust me, it happened...
sending through mail is safest and easiest option not to get stopped plus you normally have to mail stuff back anyway such as presents or gifts
if you are coming out of Japan, then I think it can be termed as a souvenir. It will have to be placed in the luggage section, but I think it will be fine..maybe pa a bit more?
as long as its not in handbag, then it should be possible to. However if its a real weapon, you'd have to register it, I think. When I was getting to England in 2011, they even asked me to take off my belt. I was like seriously, why would I need to take off my belt, it just made of leather.
Not so sure, better ask the seller if they could sent it by UPS, FedEx or something. Might also helpful to check your country regulations for such things. Also & JFYI/consideration, a friend of mine did the same thing years ago, buying a katana (decoration/blunt one if I'm not mistaken) from Jpn while on a tour. He put it in the baggage, but got confiscated by the Customs during transit at Singapore.
I think as long as it can injure peeps then it's a no on the baggage, also they treat pvc or fiber glass with sharp edge as deadly weapon
First of all, ask that at your actual flight company, not to these trolls. Secondly, why buy it there and then fly it over when you can just buy everything online nowadays. (except lolis. probabably).
@911 @Police Officer @Authority can you... pls just pick this man... I will file a case againts him! Oh and I just asked my parents but they said that you can't even carry a knife for a souvenir, so does a katana. (How the hell do I spell the underlined word?)
Have it shipped to you, 90% of what you want to carry with you can't be taken, even as luggage... not even snacks... >_> I'm hungry...
Well, i said probably as i have not tried. I have however seen those hugging pillows Japan sells though. I wonder if that'd get seized lol. Imagine bringing a date home to your hug pillow harem.
It would be easier to just mail it to where you want it to go, or as @elengee has said, call and ask the airlines and airport security if it could be brought.
