https://amp.scroll.in/article/86280...illion-people-reading-ebooks-but-at-what-cost I was just about to click on a tab when i saw this post on google news... Makes me happy to find out that at long last, web novels and light novels are getting the attention and recognition they deserve but also make me sad at the price the writers have to pay... What do u guys think?
It sucks, but that is how shit rolls, see Naruto and Bleach for results, dragging on and on for stupid shits. Companies just wanna suck off of consumers, who in turn, somewhat are drawn to repetitiveness until the point we hate it. This does not just appear in novel markets, but other ones like music, movies and stuff.
About quality and crappy work of repetitive story should be something that is well known... But seeing an author complaining about it himself /herself feel kinda weird
I see now... No wonder CN have thousands of chapters and most of them have repititve storyline(I have never read most of CN like xianxia, xuanhuan, etc. My view is purely based on the reviews of the novels. Please don't get mad at me). I pitied them because they receive a lot of pressure because of our(readers) greed.
Honestly? I think this system is pretty good overall. Having a stable payment that comes as you write, without needing to worry about patreon subscribers or buys from Amazon's self publish is... Pretty nice IMO~ Sure, it is pretty harsh to have to write some 5k words/day, but money makes magic, it's doable.
If you paid attention then you would know that because of this system it does not matter what they write they get paid either way but that amount of money solely depends on the popularity of the novel. So if an average writer has a good idea because of this system that idea will be badly executed making his novel not that great and in turn making his income worthless. So it does not give the person in question a lot of money his talents do not grow while producing shit only for the word count and without this low amount of income he or she would starve great country they need their own trump.
There's nothing surprising to me in that article. Anyone who paid attention should have known for a while now that this is how Chinese web novels work. China's still in the "open exploitation of workers" phase of capitalism all across the board, and that will only change if the people (the Chinese people!) rise up and demand change. I'm... not entirely sure that will happen in our lifetime.
I know about this system since long ago, and I still think it is great. Sure, many people don't earn much from it, but if they earn enough to pay their bills, it's plenty, isn't it? Of course every writer wants to write a high-quality work, but writing and getting bills paid is a lot better than working at a fast food to pay them, isn't it? This system does its job well enough, so I think it's good.
