Tried it but I couldn't get into it. It's not bad but i've read too many cultivation novels that make it seems mediocre to me.

It is mediocre at best and in my opinion, one of the worst xianxia novels on QD. The plot is disjointed and the MC doesn't care about anyone in a bad way. Not the ruthless uncaring but the 'you saved my life and i promised to protect your daughter but meh' kind of uncaring.

Basically, he's an MC who's really half-assed in doing things?

I think it’s good enough to read. I’m on chapter 131 at the moment and I’ve enjoyed it so far~

It's definitely worth reading. One of my favourites too. Mo Wuji is very likable. In the first chapters he couldn't cultivate, but later he became very powerful.

I liked it at first, but eventually dropped it. I got tired of the author emasculating the main character. I don't recall any explicit NTR, but I grew to dislike the novel for the same reasons I dislike NTR in novels.

Not really. But his loli female servant which is probably the female lead got kidnapped by a sect in the beginning because she's a genius in cultivation. Maybe she'll show up later.

I'll say you should read it for few following reasons, and shouldn't read it for following reasons.

However, if you don't wanna read the following commentary, just go ahead and pick up the series. Nothing harmed if you don't like it. I've listed why you'll probably want to read it or why you don't want to read it in 3 vs 3 points below.

You'll probably want to read it because

    1. The MC doesn't have a standard cultivation method that requires him to follow the norms. Therefore when certain cultivation-related matters happens, it affects the MC in different ways, and how he reacts to it is entirely different. His struggle in trying to keep up, yet at the same time to keep his cultivation methods a secret, can be entertaining because people often mistook his problems as something else.

    2. The cultivation worlds of this story is slightly different from other stories in terms of how they're physically and metaphorically connected. It is not a linear bottom up world where it is like "zone 1" then goes up to "zone 2" with no way of backing down (which can be prevailent in a lot of xianxias). The picture isn't as vivid, but you're free to pull in information from gaps and tidbits to fill up. Certain places are revisited (and probably will be revisited), so its not something like a 'touch and go world building'.

    3. As cliche as it sounds, because chinese webnovels are written in episodic forms. Though this story has a twist on that formula. Therefore it does not conform to normal literary plot structures. As jarring as it sounds, it becomes somewhat like "the problem of the week" kind of format (though it isn't entirely like that, because there are certain things that forms central plot(s) (even if its shaky), which makes it different from other xianxias that applies "there's a boss behind this boss" -esque formula in their work.

You probably don't want to read it if:
    1. You don't like repetitive formulas (because there's this subtle comparison to other "popular works" which may distort your judgement and sense of enjoyment in reading this story

    2. You're concerned about similarities between Gate of Good Fortune and this work, (though this is a "in-progress work, the other is a finished product)

    3. You don't like xianxia powerups with no definite measurable power up comparison. (as in you just know the MC powers up a lot, but by how much? Not accurately measured). The MC actually is able to overwhelm opponents when he reaches of similar cultivation levels (and to a certain extent, opposition of higher / much higher cultivation) as he progresses.
