It should just be a passive of the magical tattoo's that accounts for the mp used up this ability instantly and is a major reason why they are done all over the body or just make it their special magical ability.

    Name: Umbrum
    Race: Half-Shadow
    Sex: Male
    Age: 17
Backstory: Commoner coming from a modest family, he was a simple and cheerful kid who wasn't interested at all in magic until he goes back to his home and notice that his little sister and parents weren't there anymore.
Not that wasn't it, there was just nothing, the house was empty, no commodities, it looked like an haunted house where nobody lived in yet a few hours ago, there was a happy family.

After thinking for a bit, he decided to go learn in the Lusio Academy, known to accept everyone, why learning there ?
Because there is magic class, and what's better than forgotten magic to understand something incomprehensible ?

When he left the academy, he looked back and noticed that the Academy became just like his old house, uninhibited, there was nobody, and there was nothing inside despite the fact that a few dozens of seconds ago, he was talking to a friend who... isn't here anymore.
Alone, he decided to wander in this world, getting both stronger in magic and physical fight.

Appearance: When his mood is at its bottom, his body won't be visible and only be part of the shadow, or a fog under the moonlight.

And in normal circumstances, his appearance is just of a metis young man with brown short hair and eyes wearing glasses and over-sized clothes with a slight beard.

Personality: Overexcited, Optimist, Decisive, Protective, Friendly, Delusional, Lonely

    Equipment:
Enchanted Long Dark Coat : Self-repairing using the wearer's mana, passively creating an effect of invisibility on the user, can be deactivated.
Upon commands, the coat will relieve the user from exhaustion against an exponential mana.
May auto-activate a barrier in case the wearer is in death or life situation.

10x Small Mana Crystals : Absord surrounding mana and stock it to future use
Enchanted Dagger (?) : Effects are still unknown until use.
Enchanted Sword (?) : Effects are still unknown until use.
Enchanted Bow (?) : Effects are still unknown until use.

Side note : Unexpectedly, it makes more than 900 words. *whistles*
Not OP at all... hehe, unfortunately, he can't use those spells~

    Edit : Everything.was remade there~

Damn some of those will be painful like shadow manipulation but proton and electron creation is broken everything he makes will create radiation and be unable to form for long unless it is made purely from Hydrogens.

Hm... While skills are like what you wrote, manipulation in general, spells would be more like directive commands to the magical energy. Like making a fireball, or making a shadow blade. They're more like an action than an ability~

Indeed, that's broken, that was the goal of it when I created it~
Though... yeah, if he doesn't make Hydrogen, he will mess up with the world~
Even though, since the Hydrogen will be the easiest atom to create (1 proton, 1 electron obliviously) he will first try his way on creating Water, of course, he will need to learn how to make oxygen which has 8 protons and electrons to use it correctly.
Only that will be hard for him considering his Mana Deficiency.
Heeeeeeh... but wouldn't that close a lot of possibilities ? I mean, imagine a spell Fire Spear.
...Well, it means, he is not able to make a simple Fireball even with this spell... it's just... well, that's the kind of system I don't really like actually~

You forget the 8 neutrons and the minuscule size of these things which would make everything so inefficent.

That's relative~ There's plenty of room for one to input their ways of sneaking around the limitations~
Also, although I did put the limitation in the number to see if someone would come up with something to surprise me positively, there's no saying what's the limit of the number of spells one can have. It can be as far as the memory goes, but even so it can be countered with books containing the information needed to cast spells~

Sullivan's mother was kidnapped from her village after it was burned down and was taken to an orc tribe. After being raped by an orc, she gave birth to Sullivan and bestowed upon him the name of his grandfather. Although she gave birth to other children as well, Sullivan was the only one to keep most human traits. The orc-seeming children were murdered by their mother soon after they were born for her hatred for orcs had grown to an immense amount. But she kept her hatred hidden and stirred favor with the orc chieftain. She stepped on her fellow slaves and became the chieftain's favorite slave. She used her position, whored herself out, to keep Sullivan safe.

Sullivan grew up ostracized and discriminated against in the orc tribe, but survived nonetheless. His personality became meek and avoidant. As he grew up, Sullivan's mother spent her time looking for escape. Not for her, but her son. She already knew that she had been broken long time ago. She was inspired by the orc tribe's sacrificial ritual, and memorized the process throughout the years. The orc tribe's ritual consisted of offering the corpses of the dead to the souls of their ancestors to feast on in exchange for their blessings.

She saw how the orc tribe's weapons became enchanted with great power, power they asked for. She went to the tribe's dump for the corpses of their enemies and snapped off a branch of the central tree. She knew the corpse dump was haunted and this branch would be the medium for the ritual. She fashioned it into a simple walking stick, as the orc tribe, although not wise, had the common sense to not allow their captives to wield weapons. She made the walking stick large so her son would still be able to use it as an adult. She took her son and brought him to the corpse dump. A wildness in her eyes could be seen as she used her own blood to draw the ritual circle.

Sullivan's mother placed the walking stick in the middle and chanted the sacrifice mantra. She felt the souls before she saw them. A sense of eeriness and fear bubbled inside her. She continued to chant as she saw the souls fly around her, knowing what was to come. She closed her eyes and spoke the last syllables of the mantra.

Rather than hearing, she felt the words. The souls spoke directly to the soul. She felt the rage and insatiableness of the souls. She had chosen to do the ritual here because the orc ancestors would obviously not assist someone against the orc tribe, and the souls here had been murdered by the orcs when they were alive. However, the souls had died with rage in their hearts and were much harder to communicate with. Revenants would be a better term for them, as vengeful souls of the dead. Sullivan’s mother dug out the hatred, the insanity-inducing anger and unleashed it. Her wrath resonated with the souls’ anger and she grasped the opportunity to communicate her will. The souls stilled for a moment before resuming with ferocity. The veins could be seen on her forehead as she offered her own soul.

She knew of her talent. Not anybody could analyze an orc ritual and use it as the foundation for her own. Not anybody would have the patience and endurance to suffer quietly for years. She knew she had potential. And that potential made her soul an excellent sacrifice. She might be able to escape herself in the future. She could make something of herself with her abilities. But Sullivan was her child. She knew that he was in constant danger and suffering discrimination; one day he might even die. She couldn’t allow her own child to grow up in that sort of environment.

The revenants grew restless before rushing the walking stick. It began to glow in an eerie black light. These revenants were not benevolent souls. They had died with hatred, and their loathing seeped into their souls till the souls themselves were corrupted. Therefore the revenants didn’t enchant the walking stick, but cursed it.

She beckoned Sullivan over, forcing a kindly smile on her face. She was afraid to speak as it might break the connection between her and the souls. Sullivan had hidden himself when he saw his mother begin. He was told of what was going to happen and began sobbing as he approached his mother. She pulled him in for a final embrace as the revenants in and out of both Sullivan and the walking stick. This was her second request, to bind the stick to Sullivan. He struggled from the soul-wrenching pain as his mother felt herself smile. This was going to be the last time she was going to see him. But he won’t have to suffer like she did. She looked into his pained eyes and forced out her last words: “Be strong, love.”

The revenants finished the binding process and immediately flew into her. She felt her soul being ravaged, feasted on. But still, she kissed her son’s forehead. In mere moments, she died. Sullivan, only a child, experienced the death of his mother, his only ally in a world on injustice. He hugged the still warm corpse and screamed and bawled and broke down for who knows how long. He finally remembered his mother’s last words and the plan they had set beforehand.

He glanced up at her last smile and separated himself from her, laying the body down carefully. He knew this wasn’t in the plan and would put himself in danger, but he refused to just leave. He grabbed a shovel from one end of the corpse dump and began digging a hole. He cried and wore himself down as he dug, but didn’t stop.

Luckily, no orc came to look for them. He scooped the last mound of dirt onto the grave as he nearly broke down once again. His muscles were aching and it was a miracle that he had managed to finish with his malnourished body. He used his finger to write, an ability that his mother taught him secretly, his mother’s name at the head of the grave: Camila. He grasped the stick and silently began walking away from the grave.

Sullivan felt himself become illusory as the surroundings blurred by. He didn’t feel his own body, yet he somehow did. From an outsider’s point of view, they would see a transparent, ragged boy with a walking obviously too large for him walking with each stride somehow crossing large distances. Soon enough he was outside of the orc camp. He had escaped the cage that trapped him and his mother for years. But he didn’t stall, but forged on. His mother’s words came to mind as he ventured with the stars as his compass.

For days he walked in the direction of the nearest city. The walking stick had definitely attracted the ire of souls with its curse, but he sped by and lost them in no matter of time. His heart beat faster as he saw the constructed wall coming into view. He saw the gatekeepers and felt an unknown relief rush into him. He started to cry again as he collapsed in front of the gatekeepers.

The gatekeepers were shocked at the sudden appearance of the child, but their professionalism took over as they became cautious of Sullivan. Seeing his unconscious state, one guard went carried Sullivan over to a rest room and brought his superior over to check Sullivan’s state. They tried to release the walking stick from Sullivan’s grasp, but his grip was too tight and they didn’t want to hurt him.

The guard captain called a magician over to check Sullivan, and after it came out that Sullivan was a half-orc, the adults looked at Sullivan with pity. Orc raids were a common thing and half-orcs were rare as halflings were usually the product of rape and orcs would usually kill any halflings they found. It was lucky that Camila had done everything she could to keep him safe or his own father might have killed Sullivan. The Guard Captain had a guard watch over Sullivan and told the guard to notify him once Sullivan woke up.

Sullivan slept a full day before waking up to extreme muscle pain. He had overextended himself and the only way he was even able to survive going for days without food or water was, ironically, because he was half-orc. Orcs were infamous for strong bodies and an ability to survive. Sullivan’s mother had given Sullivan rations to eat, but he was not in the right frame of mind and only single-mindedly traveled after seeing his mother’s death. He was a child, after all.

Sullivan cried out in pain, alerting the guard watching over him. The guard motioned a patrol to get the captain as the guard entered the room. Sullivan was shocked by the sight of another person and ignored the pain as he hid himself behind the bed. The guard saw Sullivan’s pitiful appearance and felt sympathy. He had seen similar behaviour from street urchins and would tend to ignore them, but he remembered that this child was a half-orc and most likely suffered immensely. He brought out some bread and placed it on the ground, knowing that Sullivan must be hungry.

The sight of food almost made Sullivan lurch forward, but he stilled himself as he realized the guard was watching him. The guard raised an eyebrow at Sullivan’s cautious actions and stood up. Sullivan held the walking stick in front of him like a shield and began to shiver at the sudden action. The guard then turned around and walked out the door. As soon as the guard closed the door, Sullivan jumped forward and grabbed the bread. He chewed on it and as he tasted it he cried again, remembering his mother wasn’t here to share the taste with him. He finished the food in tears as the guard came into the room with the captain.

Sullivan once again hid himself as he shuddered with fear. The guard captain and the guard spent over an hour along with two meals convincing Sullivan that they weren’t going to hurt him. Sullivan began to slowly tell his story and began to cry again near the end. The guard captain and the guard stared in amazement at the story of a determined mother and even clicked their tongues at the lost of such a talent.

They did have a moment of greed when Sullivan recounted about the walking stick, but regained calm once they heard it was bound to Sullivan. Magical items were an expensive commodity, but a bound item was useless to them. Besides it wasn’t an enchanted item, but a cursed one. Sullivan ended with how his mother intended for him to look for her brother Cole Kang, a businessman who separated himself from his family. She heard vague tales of his success as she grew up, but her father refused to accept her brother as a son as her brother was both gay and unwilling to succeed the family farm.

The guard captain surprisingly knew of Cole, who had become a successful businessman with a medium-sized business. He assigned the guard to give Sullivan a bath and bring him to Cole. He gazed Sullivan with a look of sorrow and sighed at the experiences such a young child had to go through.

Sullivan’s emotions were tumultuous as he had never experienced such kindness. He had never experienced being full, clean, and relaxed all at once. The guard nodded at Sullivan’s appearance before bringing the bewildered Sullivan through the city. Sullivan gazed in amazement at all the people, all the stores, all the variety. His little head was constantly turning as he was shocked by the simplest of things. The guard chuckled at Sullivan’s reaction and gently guided Sullivan to Cole’s house.

Cole cried as he heard Sullivan’s story. Although his father had disowned him, his father was still a parent to him for many years, nothing to say of his mother and sister who he still cared for. He did not doubt Sullivan’s story as Sullivan was able to tell him things he had never told anyone and the fact he could see his sister in Sullivan. He took Sullivan off the guard’s hands.

Sullivan looked at Cole with a cautious gaze, and Cole teared up even more at Sullivan’s look. Cole grasped Sullivan’s hands and told Sullivan he would take care of him, that they were family, that he would treat Sullivan as his own child. Sullivan was still tentative but as he felt Cole’s sincerity, he began to cry too. Sullivan had always viewed family as his most important thing. His mother was family. Now this man was family.

Years passed as Sullivan grew up healthy and stronger than his peers, an effect from the orc blood in him. He was discriminated against for being a half-orc, evident from his slightly pointed ears and two large incisors that protrude from the bottom jaw of his mouth. His orc genes also made him look more mature than his age. However, the cruelty of human children could never match that of orc children, so Sullivan grew indifferent to the opinions of others. He never lost his cautiousness as he knew of the inhumanity of the world and would never give it a chance to get to him. But he wasn’t as paranoid as he was a child after growing used to society.

He was never without food or drink in Cole’s house and grew up healthy, unlike the beginning years of his life. He stood 180 cm, tanned and strong. His orc blood gave him physical abilities beyond that of human children, but he could not match some demihumans. He had black hair and a brand shaped like a flame in an eye to cover up the slave brand from his slave days. He had slightly above average looks and was lean.

He had learned the orc camp was cleaned up as the guard captain had notified his superiors of it after listening to Sullivan’s story. Sullivan was glad of it, and brought a headstone for his mother’s grave as soon as he could. On it he carved ‘An indomitable woman. Camila.’ Sullivan cried for the last time as he placed his mother’s gravestone. He didn’t want to move his mother’s body because as accursed as the place was, his mother had killed her own children soon after they were born, and he knew his mother would agree that her sin was tied to this place. He visited irregularly, as his mother would rather him living life than being stuck in the past. Still, he recounted his life whenever he went.

After five years of living with Cole and gaining a basic education, Cole discovered Sullivan’s magical talent at age fifteen. As Sullivan’s mother was a prodigy in her own right, it was no surprise Sullivan had good potential. Sullivan enrolled in the Magical School of Novelias Foruim, and graduated in four years as an above average student. His talent was not at the standard of his mother, but it bypassed the talent of the average magician.

After graduating, he came back to Cole’s house for his walking stick. He looked at it strangely and a hint of wanting could be seen in his eyes. The matter of holding onto of the stick was one of the rare arguments he had with Cole. Cole, after learning of the curse on the stick, had wanted to seal it in a container. Sullivan wanted to keep it and refused to let go. Sullivan could feel the curse acting, ghosts were starting to be attracted to Sullivan. Even though they were in a city where corpses were cleaned up and people died peacefully, holding onto the stick was going to eventually attract ghosts. They could have used consumables to keep the souls at bay, but that would be very expensive as time passed.

Cole was adamant in this, and took the walking stick away. Sullivan was outraged for many days, but eventually calmed down. Cole had not hidden the stick, he had placed it in a glass container enchanted to conceal the walking stick's aura. Although Sullivan had tried to break the glass many times and even once tried to take the case itself, the case was too sturdy and too heavy. Cole, after seeing Sullivan calm down, agreed to let Sullivan take it out once a month and walk around the city. Although it led to a few local legends being made, there was no problem. The walking stick was named Banish, ironically, because although it was an unholy object, it had banished Sullivan’s past as a slave. Cole had agreed it was a good name.

Sullivan looked at Banish in the glass strangely because he had found a way to protect himself from the ghosts. He had been allowed to choose a magic tome from the school’s secret library once after contributing greatly to the hunting of a lesser drake once, and he had found an unusual magic tome. The magic tome was called [Will-O-Wisp Totem]. It was a rare magic book belonging to the king-type. However, the only reason it was in the middling levels of the secret library was because of a severe restriction it brought. The user’s spell library was not only erased entirely upon learning this spell, but it also only allowed three more spells along with it, turning many people off.

However, this spell was otherwise very powerful, bringing along the aspects of a spell worthy of being a king-type. It allowed both the creation and command of Will-O-Wisps, a type of lesser spirit with basic intelligence. These Will-O-Wisps would be able to defend Sullivan from being haunted. Sullivan even spent large amounts of money to buy a Haunted Lantern form an underground auction, a magical item usually used by necromancers to hold souls captive.

Another reason for Sullivan’s hesitation was that this spell was bordering necromancy. Necromancers were viewed as oddballs in the magical community. However, as Sullivan stared at the stick, he had no hesitation in using the tome. He felt four years of accumulation wash away as a new power grew inside him. Tomes are special magic items that give instant knowledge on how to cast a spell. Nontheless, the user still needed to practice to gain proficiency in it.

Sullivan immediately created one Will-O-Wisps. He gazed at what looked like ghostly balls of flames as he took out his Haunted Lantern. After making sure he could put the Will-O-Wisp in and out, he left them out as he reached into the glass case and took out Banish. He felt the comfortable weight in his hands as he stepped out of the house.

He began walking towards the city graveyard and moved with ghostly speed as he used Wightspeed, the ability imbued into Banish. As he arrived, he saw the usually invisible spirits of the dead, an unexpected ability gained after having the revenants burrow into his soul. He took out his Will-O-Wisp and stepped into the graveyard. The spirits immediately charged him and he watched as the Will-O-Wisp automatically blocked the spirits’ paths and burned them into nothingness. Satisfied, Sullivan ordered the one Will-O-Wisp to be invisible and protect him.

Sullivan happily spent a week and a half with Cole, who was very happy for Sullivan’s success with Banish. He made sure to create one Will-O-Wisp every week. After, he bid farewell to Cole who gifted him some money for Sullivan’s travels. Sullivan had always wanted to adventure. From when his mother told stories of outside the orc camp to the bedtime stories of Cole, his spirit for adventure had always been stoked. He spent half a week using Wightspeed to reach the kingdom’s capital. There, he signed up for the Kingdom’s Magic Association, ready to begin his journey.
