When I'm nearing the end of a novel, I suddenly don't want to read it further. Or I'm skipping many parts then get to the end? Why?

No I stoped 2-4 novels right before finishing. Idk I just don't feel like reading it right now.

Though I do finish it for some. Depends on my mood.

You must be reading some boring novels lol

I usually read to find out how things pan out, so for me it gets more interesting as you near the resolution

The only time I get reluctant is when it's the kind of story where the journey is more interesting than the end, and I don't want it to end, so I get bummed out (but that's super rare)

    - You felt that the novel seem rushed or just bad. So you unconsciously just wanted it to end, or since you thought the ending wouldn't be satisfying to you so you stopped yourself.
    - You lost your "like" part for the novel, as in you were bored of it, so since you knew that you were gonna reach the ending soon, you did what you do.
If it was a good novel, or a novel that truly caught your interests, then you wouldn't be doing that cause you were caught in the pace of the novel that last till the end, in the ending arc.
(Or something simple like because you really liked it so you didn't want it end, so you stopped yourself. While the skipped and rushed parts are one of the 2 I mentioned above)

I know what you mean. A inner dread that prevents you from reading the last chapters.

It depends, are you talking about the END of a novel or catching up to current translated chapters? If it's the latter then I have a tendency to do that as well.

Indeed, that has happened to me before. Sometimes when I am nearing the end of a novel, a fight suddenly breaks out. Between my subconscious and conscious mind, that is. The former tells me to stop reading it and continue later, whilst the latter tells me to see it through the end. And most of the times my conscious minds wins. But I can feel that my subconsciousness gets stronger after every defeat; unlike us humans, it never loses hope.

Ai-chan was afraid of clicking the title of this thread. Thank god it's not about that Q-word again.

Anyhow, I do sometimes feel the same way, the not wanting to read further thing. However, I only feel that way with long web serials that I'm not sure when it will end or if the end will really be the end. Usually, when I read something, I set a clear cut-off point. If the novel says "The End", then I damn well expect it to be "The End". If there are additional chapters posted a few months after that, I won't read them. For example, I don't read Mushoku Tensei Redundancy or any of the extra chapters posted after the main story had concluded.

So usually when I reach the end of a web serial, I stop reading, waiting to see if there are any epilogue or extra chapters. Sometimes I forgot about the story and where I stopped reading. I never have this problem with actual published books.

It's rare but there is the odd times where I absolutely love what I'm reading and I just stop a few chapters from the end because I don't want it to end. I want to leave the ending open so I can keep thinking about it or something, which is weird since I dont like open endings when the author writes them lol. Latest one ive done this with was The Martian. Great book that i just put down right before the ending because i just didnt want it to end.

Not always sometimes it's not rushed I just have something at the time or I wait for it to finish and by the time I get back to the novel I don't feel like reading it again yet.

Like ISSH, SSN, emperor solo play, dungeon hunter and a few others. Most I have 10-20 chapters left and some I have half the novel left I was waiting for it to finish but not in the mood yet.

Though I plan to finish them.

For me its quite the opposite... i read the novel and got impatient so i also read some spoiler(specially the ending). If the ending is good then i read it with enthusiasm til the end but when the ending is quite sh*tty then i stop it right there... emperor of solo play is like the one with sh*tty ending for me...

Hmmm.. probably is because you over does yourself with the novel...
Because either the novel is super bas and boring or you over does youself... is the only ways that will result in your symtoms
