Of course that's just layman, considering that the OP didn't consider physics when he proposed his theory. However, this is NUF, nobody wants to read about some smart-ass talking about why lunging and pushing is faster than running and carrying. Besides, Ai-chan needs to go to bed already.

 

Running while bringing the person along, in idealized case, is a non elastic collision, assuming both have the same mass then you're basically halving your speed,

Lunging into them on the other hand, is an elastic collision, making the collided person having more than half your speed while lowering yours to less than half,

So basically only lunge into them if you want more safety for the person while taking more risk for your own life

It also depends on the path of the oncoming vehicle, in a lot of these stories, the small child, or impossibly cute girl, have only just stepped off the curb, and overweight mc can only lunge out, give a twist to pull them back onto the curb, and fall into the street due to their momentum.

 

that would only work if the other party is significantly lighter than you are, and you are if not athletic, at least decently strong. Otherwise, the safest bet is to use your own weight to push them out of the way.

Although, I suppose most of the time they're saving a child or some pretty woman, so maybe?

most likely, even the lolling of his dead is just responsive. he most likely is stunned from the sudden change of pov

 

It seems like that kid gets dropped midway through the roll, so they probably got a full view of the car the whole way. I'd be stunned too, if I just saw a car plow through the area I was standing in, be wondering if I'm having an out of body experience....

 

You can check recommendation threads for good ones of many genres, but last week I read The Devil’s Cage. While it's not perfect, it has one thing that made me add it to my reading list, and at quite high position at that: MC thinks (really, not CN version of thinking). He tries to plan for every possibility and figure out what his opponents want to achieve, before acting in most efficient way to disrupt their schemes. And, wait for it... he kills his enemies as fast as possible, if he can.
Basically, probably the most logical protagonist I've recently read about.

Not sure if it helps you if you're searching for a novel with ironclad world logic, but...

[edit] While I do like my novels well-planned, I can ignore lapses in physic laws etc. as long as it's nothing too ridiculous or important to the story. Truck-kun? I'm ignoring it.

 

Then you'd just have a novel or manga showing the desperation of the people who really, really want the protagonist to reincarnate.
