As much as I hate the face-slapping; all the novels are similar.

The writers copy each other and that makes it stupid. But tbh I mostly find that less annoying that Japanese novels that have that similar thing where the mc can be so nice all the time where they act like a wuss half the time.

if you think all cn novel are the same you haven't read them all , read gu daoist master (it's my favourite cn novel) and there is everlasting immortal firmament that is excellent and non repetitive or Immortal, look 1 minute and i show you 3 pearls . If you read this 3 but you say all cn novel are repetitive then i swear i will swallow an ocean.:blobexpressionless:
If you just mean just face-slapping in novel in general then all my comment was for nothing :sweating_profusely:

It's why you gotta read English webnovels. They aren't nearly as restricted by genre. Besides the clones of Eastern webnovels, the rest are much better at writing well-constructed characters with quality development.

Im only reading Strange Life of a Cat for CN. And yes they are repetitive, just look at their historical or martial art movies. You can guess what will come next.

I don't know if it is just different cultural literary values, or eastern authors are actually worse than western, but I have definitely noticed that english novels are superior in writing, characters, and uniqueness.
BUT, the problem is, my favorite type of novel is almost monopolized by China and Japan, my absolute favorite sub-genres are 'reincarnated to another world with memories intact', 'cultivating to immortality with a lot of fights' and 'an apocalypse has happened and people on Earth have suddenly gained powers that they use to fight zombies/monsters/each other'. I vastly prefer English authors, but I also vastly prefer Asian genres, and the only place I've found where they intersect is with english web novels, but while they are nice, they are almost all written by amateurs, which limits their quality (with a few exceptions that I really love).
All I want is a xianxia written by George R.R Martin, or an apocalyptic litrpg written by Jim Butcher, is that too much to ask!?

Either mc ascend to higher realm or move to new place. Yes info dump chapters are very annoying (and bla bla bla chapters). Well they have words quota for every chapter released *shrugs
