Discussion Why so many Koreans novels are translated and not japanese ?

I want to complain that we have too many korean novels translated compared to the Jp.
Recently the only Jp novels that are frequently translated are: I was a sword... (WN), Shikkaku Mon no Saikyou Kenja and other stuffs from Sousetsuka, The Other World Dining Hall (WN), and stuff from Shinsori-sama (have my babies ! no homo ! / just kidding).

Just join me speaking about how KR novels (or maybe CN) are better/or not from JP.
Or speak about the novels that you like but not translated anymore without creating a new post in Novel Pickup.

My wish would be to be rich so i can pay translators to translate the works of my choice.
And last: WTF with Qidian International ! Too many releases !

 

JP novels that are even decently popular have a decent chance of getting licensed. Even if the novel doesn't get licensed in the US they will sometimes issue take down notices.

JP novels that aren't web novels are just too risky to touch. But there are still plenty of JP web novels being translated...

 

People have already been in contact with JP culture through various mediums like anime, manga and novels and it's grown stale as there's always the basic similarities between each story.
Meanwhile, Korean stories are like a breath of fresh air to these people, more game-related references, game-systems and the elements of grinding.

It's not a question of better or not, it's just different.

 

Japoneses are lazy abd don't want to translate, unlike their chinese and korean counterparts

I don't think you can call this a choice translators have. It's not as though a translator can go, "Hrm, I can write/read Japanese, Korean, AND Chinese. I wonder which I should translate."

As for which is better, I feel Korean authors know what they're doing when they're getting into writing (as in, they have the plot already), while Japanese authors do it with a whim-like attitude. Chinese stories are similar to both, though the idea is to stretch the plot as long as one can...

Overall, I read all three so meh.

 

KR novels are more realistic than jap
meaning earning money, get married etc
while jap is about transported get cheat but underestimated as trash, get trow away , wandering get/save girls but being a FUC*ing dense

 

Dude, as much as I like anime, and manga. Japanese novels are very bad at making their novels great.

 

some chinese novels are good but usually it's
trash from starter village 1 get cheats
take revenge on bullies, get chased by the bullies's backer, get more cheats, girls and more kill
and finally meeting last boss for the STUPIDEST reason(meaning: trash you killed my sons/grunts or have treasures so i will kill you)

 

There are way more being actively translated tho....

 

True that, i didn't think of it. But that would be nice if some mangas translators change to wn.

 

JP novels (except for some exceptional ones) are like a lost boy without map nor GPS trying to find an unknown place somewhere

KR novels usually has a clear direction yet unclear ending and sometimes when they are faced with writer's block, they put fillers while trying to find new inspiration

CN novels are just… well, preeeety long, I guess?

So based on their differences, translators might pick the one that suits their taste and language skills.

Plus I find the character building for Japanese novels can suck so much. That’s why I barely read any Japanese these last couple of years. Giving them another chance now though and half the time I’m just annoyed. Korean novel mc’s are not as annoying for me atm~

 

I think there are more JP novels being translated than KR, but the thing is that JP novel quality has been dropping since many of them start focusing on their niche audiences rather than explore new themes. KR is a more new market so a lot of novels are still not translated.

Qidian is the official owner of the chinese novels. And they are branching out into the international market. So obviously they will have a ton of releases since they are paying translators and editors.

 

The ones i said are the ones that are catching my attention with how little delay they are updated.

 

JP novels are usually slow paced and tend to favor the slice of life genre (at least the few translated that I've read).
It's just my personal opinion but I just can't enjoy a lot of them, and the few that I do (MKKNR, The New Gate, Duke's Daughter), are either licenced, being translated excruciatingly slow, or dropped.
So I read more Chinese and Korean ones.

 

because, many of them (translators of JP novel), doing it as hobbyist and do not ask for donation or have schedules. and popular JP novel get licensed eventually, so, yeah. sorry for my english.

I would hope not. I feel that manga is far better than Japanese novels. I have been reading manga for over 10 years now but never got bored. On the other hand, trying to find a good Japanese LN/WN is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
