Question Which novel started the otome game cliche?

As you know, there are many novels about people getting reincarnated into otome game as villainness/heroines/mobs. Even when I was searching for new novels to read in syosetu, almost everything was about reincarnated into otome games.

So I was wondering, which novel that started this trend? I know that The Inner Palace Tale of a Villainess Noble Girl is the first story about misunderstood villainess (released in 2012). I think (not sure) Kenkyo Kenjitsu is the first story about getting reincarnated into a villainess in shoujo manga (released in 2013). What about the otome game cliches? Does anybody know/has opinion on this? Thank you.

An Otome Game’s Burikko Villainess Turned into a Magic Otaku was one of the first villainess reincarnation story that I had read, but I think it started in 2014 in Japan.
(Too bad this novel isn't translated anymore since 2016, it had a pretty fun cast...)

 

I think that Kenkyo should count. Sure, it's not technically an otome game, but there really isn't all that much difference between a shoujo romance manga and an otome game to begin with. What's important is that Kenyko has every element that you'd expect to find in that kind of story.

Then came in an influx of them.
As for the one that started over at japan, well you'll have to ask some translators.

 

I forgot about Burikko. That was definitely the first one we got as far as JP novels go. CN tends to romance novel rather than otome game, but it's basically the same genre.

the first otome tensei series ive seen here is the about the girl who likes magic and tatoos on her body. followed by that novel one who unknowingly seduced everyone including the female protagonist of the game world. then the sudden boom of otome tensei novels

 

The word of cliche depend on your perspective imo. Someone who read dukes daughter first then read the world god only knows may call the world god only knows cliche vice versa.

 

Why is a lot of people here talk about the world god only knows ? Is there a novel called that way I don't know about ? (the only stuff I know with this name is a manga based on a galge's spoof that had been adapted in novel, it has no connection with otome games...)

The Inner Palace Tale of a Villainess Noble Girl came way before that. As far as I know, it's the oldest of the genre that was big enough to get published.

 

I remember that novel , you put it on your "stuff that somebody should translate (seriously, I have way too many good novels to feed to the weird birds so I'll be nice and let those ones for you)" list quite a long time ago, the first chapter had been translated in june 2017.. Nothing more since then...
