The best part was when he castrated that guy for being a little arrogant. That made me think the novel was going to be fun. Its to bad that was the only time. Its funny how that guy got castrated when tons of other people did way worse and only got a slap on the wrist.
Yeah a huge amount of cultivation stories have a problem with hypocritical protagonist. Well actually it is not really the protagonist that is hypocritical it is the author. The protagonist knows the world of cultivation is ruthless, and you have to be willing to destroy your enemies completely, and incinerate the remains if you want to survive. The hypocrisy comes when the author tries to betray the protagonist killing people has heroic and justified, and makes it so when anyone else does it they're arrogant and cruel. In the end they're both killing each other for some shiny stones, and magic beans.
This got me thinking, is there a cultivation novel, where it is not law of the jungle. but where is actual law, where if people do something bad, it would be known easily and get punished for it. hence people will always act according to law.
Expecting CN MCs to have Momonga level of awareness & self-inspection set a very high standard. That said so far (IMO) USAW, Bai Yunfei does have some standard compares to most CN novel MC. Gate Of Revelation MC also quite solid.
I don't recall any, but if there are then it's probably a modern day cultivation novel. Maybe cultivation chat room I guess?

You probably want something with an oath system like Desolate Era. In that story they swear oaths on the heavenly daos, and later lifeblood oaths, which basically kill you if you break them. There is still some struggles for resources, but none of that in-sect murder fest you see in a lot of cultivation novels.
