You notice so many details! The summary of drama released these days mentions no female lead, so probably there won't be one. In the summary LWJ and WWX are "really good friends". I'd say if there is no female lead, they already put it the best way they can do given the regulations and censorship... Well since somehow rebirth is not allowed in TVs these years (which I have no idea why), WWX will not die... He somehow disappeared for 16 years (Why 16 years... We don't know). btw... I think that scene in the pic is the Buyetian event... the WWX fight against 3000 cultivators one. Since LWJ tried to stop him and fought with him in that event... The only reason I can come up with for it to be 16 years is to let JL, LSZ and the rest of the kids to grow a little older before the story begins. But it's only a wild guess.
I guess that its due to the china and tibet conflict. In accordance to tibetian spiritual ／buddhist beliefs their religious leaders cum political leaders are reincarnated into another person after their deaths. China to the best of my knowledge has been trying to control this process to get more influence over tibet? So i guess thats why theu do not want such depictions on television.
