Discussion How do you know you're concious? and you exists and this life is real?

Life as in the quality of being alive is basically having thoughts and/or emotions, so you are alive. I can't prove this isn't a dream and therefore whether or not you are conscious. Though if everything we can perceive for are whole life is a dream then you should just compare your situation to Asian novels where mc is stuck in a game or manga. Even if we are 3 dimensional a 4d being would look at us as game characters and so on, a 2 dimensional existance isn't any less real than any higher one.

 

I'm pretty sure I ran through this train of thought quite some time ago, and I'm about 100% sure that this is real.

The real issue then, is why I'm seeing obviously fictional monsters in the corner of my eye.

 

1. Check your butt. If there is no arm currently coming out of it and you don't have a fetish of having people stick their whole arm inside you, chances are you are real.
2. Reach behind your back and grab at the air and bring your hand back in front of you. If you aren't currently holding an oversized hammer or fan, chances are you are real.
3. Try to divide by zero. If you just ignore it because you already know you can't and don't explode, chances are you are real.
4. If you do these things and you succeed in all of them and no one contacts you in the next couple of hours asking you to take a red or blue pill, then congratulations you aren't real!

i dunno if it's laziness, apathy, or nihilism, but i find that i just don't care.

 

To be, or not to be, that is the question.

Simple, you don't. Either you believe or go on existential crisis.
You might be in simulation and all other things happening around you are just part of that. But you wouldn't know until you know. And it would be impossible to prove so its stupid to think about.
Its like trying to prove to someone god doesn't exist. You can know all there is to know, but still someone can argue god exist outside of what you know. Thus believing in god bit ridiculous. Same with you question.

 

I hate that theory, it's just so bland and lazy that you can apply it to almost every show/movie/cartoon/comic/novel with a few moments to back it up and 100 more moments that disprove it. I guess for rl it'd be somewhat interesting/morbid to think about though.

You are what you perceive and its not up to the others to prove/ decide.
