Lately i've been strangely attracted by card based battle system. among the recent ones i've played are slay the spire, thea the awakening, siege, ccn.. I'm not specifically searching for tcg or ccg, just games with story and battle with cards. preferably offline, can be dungeon crawler/rogue-like or straight up rpg, but not leaning towards tcg or ccg per say... got any suggestions? The Amber Sword. Comes real late but the MC is basically using an MTG card to summon creature and fight.. Ps. If youre putting it in the novel section then Im asuming youre searching for novels. Otherwise it would be in the game section
Final Fantasy 8 had a decent trading card battle mini-game system all throughout it. Might not entirely match the question but it was fun to me.
The only card game I liked was yu gi oh sacred stones on gba. Somehow all other card games sucks for me.
persona series. its a combination of rpg and pokemon, but the pokemons are in the form by card-ish thing. also the story is pretty good. problem is that it's a console exclusive game but there are ps2 emulators so you can play 3 and 4
IMHO baten kaitos is probably the best game of this genre. The card battle sequence is surprisingly well thought through and quite fun, and the bosses are cool. Can be quite mean to you at times tho, so always keep a few different save files. If you are underlevel there is one hell boss that traps you with no way to gain levels or more cards. Just gotta keep bashing your head into the wall til it works.
Omg finally someone else that knows about this game, I swear this game was decades ahead of its time. It's such a shame that it's so under the radar.
