Discussion Double Bladed Spear or Dual Blade Style?

So after having made my main character for my fantasy clusterfuck of a novel.

I was planning on a weapon for her to use and here I fallen into a dilemma.

Dual Wielding Long Swords or A Double Bladed Spear that can detach in the middle?

I was planning on just using a regular spear as her main weapon, but then I remember a YouTube video describing the weapons a medieval fantasy Elves can use(video below).



Which gave me the idea of her adventuring into the territory of elves of my fantasy world and learn or get better with the help of elvish master in the art of dual wielding long swords. But since I did not want to just give up the original idea of her using a spear and mowing down the army of the Harem King in order to get away from him.

I decided to combine the two to make a spear that is double bladed and can be detach from the middle that look something like the image below as reference to what my character will be using.



However, doing this I feel like this would make the whole weapons learning a bit more complicated to write as I am having a hard time thinking of any situation where she would learn to use such a weapon combination and style.

So which one do you guys think I should choose? Should I just let her become a regular dual blade master or a unique spear master that can also dual blade?

 

Spear. End of story.

 

I would do a spear. Blades, no matter how cool they seem, are relatively overrated these days. If you want to be more unique, I guess you could say, then go with spears, but you can still have blades if that's what you want.

 

Spear > dual blades. If we assume both people are evenly skilled, the spear dude will win. The reach and versatility of the spear is far superior. No contest.

 

SPEAR, I SHALL SPEAR THE HEAVENS.

 

I know, historically the spear was used the most on the battlefield and was called the King of Weapons that was the original reason why I wanted her to have a spear. But the plot thread with the elves seem really interesting for world building to me.

 

If you're using a double bladed spear that can detach, why ask if spear or dual style is better? You already have both in one weapon.

 

Spear is just more badass especially since it's double ended,after all like the guy above swords are extremely common, blades are slightly less common but they're easier to write about, but veering off a little bit little honestly I just want a protagonist that uses an Axe or a Mace

 

Make a weapons that reflects her character, and have the weapon's weakness reflect her own. like for example for a spear, wielding one, you could write her as head strong and aggressive, focusing more on power. While for dual wielding you could lean more of the agility and speed or the elegance of fighting, dodging parrying, to reflect the nature of the elf she learns from (although this is me, assuming based on the elf stereotype)

And the fighting style, why dont you watch a staff or bo staff way of fight. Usually they put some block of iron on both tip of the staff.
Sooo, its fundamentaly the same.

 

Go with your Dual Bladed Spear idea. While Dual swords may be easier to write if you execute your spear idea well it will be great.

As for her preliminary learning... get her to use a Quarter Staff. Most of the basic movements will be the same and allow for her to upgrade to your spear idea as she becomes more skilled or when she finds the Elvish masters.

Plus if you make the spear detachable in the middle then you can still have some of the dual sword style in your writing.

 

I haven't thought up a plot for it and don't know how she will get such a weapon. But who knows maybe she just met an elf who can is eccentric enough to use this weapon.

 

why not a sling shot cultivator? never seen a sling shot as main characters weapon you can make it so he can inscribe the beads with different kind of skills like fire water ice thunder darkness maybe even summon creatures

 

She is not David and I feel like the slingshot is a caveman tool...

 

Spears are better

 

Remember David took Goliath's sword.

 

If you used a spear with serrations that big you would probably die after it got stuck in an enemy

 

Dual wield sword and spear

 

Spear is most common battle weapon throughout history and used by all antiquity civilization. First weapon that human race ever invented. Other than that is club. I believe even Real life elves, dwarves, orc will use spear.

Spear is Caveman Tool. Spear usage date almost 200,000years ago, whilst slingshot was used by Neolithic farmers.

 

Yeah it probably won't like that, but something like this after it had separated.
