It seems like Wujigege is deliberately separating chapters into many pages to force people to reloads ads based on what he said in this thread?

He's only one person. But, every person who read that thread might think this is true.

For me, it came from the site owner explicitly stating in several posts on NUF that he split chapters up into multiple parts even though they were released all at once specifically so people would have to see more ads. Even if that's not the purpose, sometimes I have wonky wireless connection and I'd really prefer to be able to load a full chapter at once.

And you say they're trivial, but the sites I stopped reading from were so bad I literally couldn't read the words because of the theme or font or whatever the translator was doing. I don't know ublock origin, but it wouldn't have helped on the one where the text was turned into an image with a watermark on it... Does it even work on iPhone? And you call the other objections "trivial" but the themes were all bad enough to make the text unpleasant or even impossible to read. I read to relax. I shouldn't need to find add-ons or learn how to muck about with the coding myself just to make it readable... I might as well spend that time learning the original language.

Translators' websites are inherently "sticky" since users/readers will always spend a lot of time per page to read the chapters. People also tend to read more than one chapter per visit. I wouldn't be surprised if the time people spend on a translator's website averages 30 minutes or more. IMO, there's absolute no need to force people to load more pages. Good design with fewer ads increases clicks more than "forcing" reloads.

 

Well you can't reason with most of the readers on such sites.. it's a waste of breath to do so.

Though the forcing reload isn't that bad IMO..
Popups and redirects were horrible...
LQ image full of watermarks was enough to make me drop one of my favorite novels... >.>
Ah, and I remember one with a custom font that was so hard to read that made me drop the novel at chapter 2.

 

Idk about you but I just use reader mode from firefox to read them novels..
Whatever the font, color, background, or adds, will be made readable easily..

 

Oh there was this website that using black as the background and ligth green as the fonts color, much wow.

 

Ah, I never tried using Reader Mode... I think I used it in one site because it was bombarding me with pop-ups.

I dislike Reader Mode overall, I prefer normal site display.

 

Again, shouldn't be forced to do things like that just to read a novel. And it doesn't even work with all the problems that were mentioned...

LOL complaining about ads, redirects, and popups but too lazy to use an adblocker? It literally takes like 2 mins or less to install one. Either you don't install one and put up with ads since you don't mind them... or if you don't like ads and install an adblocker. It's that simple. The time it took to type all that is less time than it would take to just put an adblocker.

It's a browser that was made by an adblocker company.

 

you should still support the translators you love by not adblocking

 

I am a translator. It's fine if people want to use Adblock, I don't mind.

Besides, like I said... if you don't mind ads then keep them on. You can do that with adblock, you know. Idk what people are on about, do you guys seriously NOT use Adblock? That's pretty dangerous in this day and age, you know. There was a coinminer on some translator's websites recently.

Think of adblock as locking your front door. You can still open your door to let people in, right? Same with Adblock. But would you keep your front door open so that every Tom, Dick, and Harry can enter?
