Discussion The slow regression of female characters

I've seen several novels where women are nothing more than walking pairs of boobs the moment the MC is introduced. And a long time ago I decided, miss me with that weak shit. If the MC lacks game to such absolutely catastrophic levels that the only way to get laid is if the female can't make rational decisions for herself, that's essentially torture porn

What I find instead is even novels with a make MC that introduce female leads inevitably take this road .A strong female character is introduced only for said character to lose all personality and vaccin yet another human form Fleshlight for the MC. I just don't get it. Why can't the female lead have a brain in these novels? What drives the author and the readers to accept this as valid development? This is seeing evolution , but in the opposite way.

Before someone tears into this post for examples, look at say, Toika's works or any of the JP LNs where supposedly strong willed female characters turn into blithering idiots the moment the MC aura is present.

 

yup, that's the fantasy

the people that read those stories don't want to read about the MC going through the all the relationship building and courtship. They want their bad ass MC to have insanely attractive women around him and get laid. MCs are so generic because it is a self-insert fantasy that the reader can live through the novel.

 

I think its time for you to start reading female lead novels.

Heck look at american and avengers two movie. Black widow is sad because she cannot have any kids and is a monster.

Not that she killed a lot of people and some could be innocent. Not that she is a living weapon. It is because she cannot have kids.

Wouldnt it be mostly the same with the different gender? Since most of these men in FML novels are either rapist or created solely to worship the FML?

Because the mc can’t get laid by women with fully functional brains. I honestly don’t get it either, just like how I don’t get why women in male protagonist novels are willing to share their man with other women. Maybe it’s because they (the authors and viewers) feel that the women are but an ornament for the purpose of showing how overwhelming capable and attractive the mc is and that his mere existence causes their brains to shortcircuit.

I’ve seen this happen to a lesser extent in female protagonist novels as well, they start out strong and independent but once the ml is introduced, it’ll slowly go towards a mc incapable of succeeding without the ml’s support.....

 

Only read Toika's ICDS, but can't say your wrong. They do start out well, but fall apart. It also doesn't help that the author wrote a harem which is hard to do, but also had two obvious favorites so the rest didn't get much development or were left unfinished.

I don't know if the author gets better since ICDS was a early work.

Of course you need to venture outside of the world of chinese/Asian novels as the main stream in those is heavily skewed towards male readers and power fantasies which avoids well written characters.

 

Or lead romance instead of harem. Raptor wife is a good one as well as Dungeon Defence.

 

It's almost like you're reading niche works, aimed at an immature audience by authors with lack of experience. You think any of these guys know how to write a good female character? Have you seen what kind of main characters run around in most of the stories in these books?

I think you're wrong. It's more like you're finally seeing the vast amounts of shit that any creative subject has. 98% of all created works are shit. 1% is shit you like and the last 1% is actually good things.

Well yeah.. a novel with an adult taste in the west would have a more refined and complex modern woman ...
But the OP prolly only look for novel in the asian web novel bracket full of mary sue novels I bet..
web novels are a place where amature novelist gather to hone their skills anyway..

 

There’s this thing where the women in stud horse novels (ML novels) brainlessly fall for the mc and the women in FL novels brainlessly oppose the mc and charge to their death. I feel that the men in these novels are more rational. Even if they’re in love with the FL, they are still perfectly intelligent and capable people, albeit a bit unreasonable. It’s different from the severe decline in intelligence and ability of female admirers in ML novels.

I think that would lay in the difference between the ideal mate a male or female otaku would want..
Theyre not that complex because the authors arent that experienced or well informed on how the other gender think or work..
If you cant put in realism, you put your idealism in it..

 

Creating a good and strong personality female lead is a double-edged sword though
In one side you can create many drama or action that revolves around this
and in the other side, you need to maintain her character and not turn it into MC dick-following personality

 

Well I can get behind the sharing aspect of you love him so much you would rather have one part of him than none at all. The unrealistic part is there is no backstabbing or such low amounts of jealousy in MC harem.
But one of the big disappointments is AST because he makes all these interesting female mc's and seemed to have brains then he just gives them 2 sentences every 50 chapters after they become his and get pregnant.
