Discussion Why Are New Translators Picking Up Qidian Novels

This completely baffles me, especially when they are not using it as a calling card to get recruited.
You then have people saying Qidian stole the novel. I was treated like a psycho for advising against it.
Well some people are masochists

 

They want to make money. Qidan has the best novels that are more likely to get a following to make them money.

 

People should pick up https://www.novelupdates.com/series/death-notice/ there's no update for almost 5 months now smh .

 

Their divination skills are not enough to reach the apex.

Maybe they want the novel to be picked up by Qidian and if they can continue as translator there is a steady income?

 

Despite what Qidian or QI has done, they're still likely the only 'serious' and large translator group that's backed by a company or someone wealthy enough to support their activities for some time, compared to wxw which to my knowledge isn't or GT which sold the majority to the company behind Qidian (unless that changed a lot after the event).

Meaning there's a background. And we as novel readers all know that people flock to groups that have a strong background, whether it be good or bad reasons to do so.

Why not apply there from beginning then? Going solo like that only increase the chance of QI picked up the novel when it's popular enough but with their own translators. And then readers react "they stole it from xxx translator" like the previous translator owned the right, the most recent case is that Descent of whatever magic.

Better join QI or don't translate Qidian novel unless you want to freely advertise their novels before they sent that DMCA love letter, or the worst scenario they just copy paste your translations and edit it slightly.

OR maybethey want QI to pick it up with their own translators,causing them to work on more projects, which then leads to them being overworked, getting burnouts, therefore having lower number of translators, which makes the quality even worse only so they can keep their schedule, which in turn makes everyone stop reading their novels because of really bad quality.

What a genius, man if they learn the Dao of Cultivation those kind of translators would breakthrough everytime they farted.

Well joke aside, people should realize QI motto by now

Quantity over Quality, numbers isn't the problem for them, they would just assign multiple translators on 1 project

 

QI must have some t&c about payments during non popularity phases.
Many of the translators would want some regular income so they are attracted to it.
Also it's not gonna go bankrupt anytime whereas self build sites have high dependence on readers whitelisting their sites on their adblocking browsers for revenue.
It's similar to working in a low paid government job with security or opening a startup

 

Some people seem to misunderstand what I am saying
These new translators are not trying to get recruited by Qidian
They believe that their novels won't get picked up by Qidian

 

Why pick up new novels, hey can they just try to continue translate this novels :
Shaman’s Awakening
Law of the Devil
The Lame Daoist Priest
Jiu Shen
War of the Supreme Mysteries
Totem
all them are good novel from what I read thus far.

 

Their own option lol, just leave them do whatever they want if they didn't want to listen to your advice.

Well... They have eyes, but cannot see the Mount Tai? I can't really understand it either.

If anything, I saw one translator that decided to pick a Qidian project up simply because they loved the novel and wanted it to gain exposure, even though they knew Qidian was probably going to pick it up later... As in, they were fully aware they were dealing with a time bomb there... In this case I can understand it.

Hoping Qidian won't pick the novel up and get the free readerbase is just dumb though.

 

Some translators actually didn't even know.

There are many translators (especially MTL-ers) who read from pirate sites (e.g. danmeila, sto.cc) without even realizing that they're pirate sites.

 

I actually hope that more translator translate qidian novel.

Qidian choice of new novel is not good, i think i only read 1/10 of their novel.

This can be market test for qidian, and if the novel is popular enough, qidian can just recruit those translator.

I think back then, qidian has a plan to give a number of novel free to translate.
