Movie "Mulan Live Action" next year?

Well that really depends on what you think "top" means.

I think there are two camps, as we can obviously already see in this forum alone. Some want a proper story about Mulan, "topping" the Chinese version as you have said, would imply a closer approach to the original story, which the Chinese version is all about.

The second camp is what I would refer as Disney nostalgia-faction, those who want a musical, songs, Musshu and the whole Disney she-bang and those may not necessarily like it if there is nothing (Disney-) Mulan-ish in the live action.

So yeah, it all depends on what people want.

Also, from an economical standpoint, for those who are interested, it seems that Disney is taking the former approach and I think it is also in order to appease the Chinese audience, which at that time, did not like Disney's Mulan very much (some even complaining that she is so ugly, etc.). Now, you need to keep in mind that China is a huge film market, that can make or break a movie just because of its sheer population. (Little lesson on the side )

 

So it's a matter of the general audience's preferences and box office sales...
