My definition of Wuxia is Chinese literature about heroes and martial arts rather than specifically literature about Chinese heroes doing martial arts in ancient China. I find that in Chinese literature there is a certain style in the writing that distinguishes it from its Western counterparts. So even though the setting is from Western inspired culture, the structure and prose is very Chinese and shares more similarities with Wuxia works in general.

I could call it a Western Fantasy novel written by a Chinese author, however calling it Wuxia to me more accurately describes to the reader the tone of the story and the structure of the plot.

 

As long as no one ends up being rude... on YouTube I saw a comment about Chinese and smth rude lol I wanted to add oil to the flame so badly and explode the comment thread... How dare they insult Chinese anime... The King's Avatar can't be insulted...

Well when I read the post they were replying to, I thought "Of course the Chinese will be the main people, it's a Chinese novel for crying out loud! Why would they write about another country?"

 

If and when there's actually enough notable stuff on TL, because frankly the discussion pretty much died down.

As for Zhihu, it's a shitty site. It's basically Chinese Quora, but worse. So it's sort of more akin to Yahoo answers in a way. Also, I've seen quite a few WW supporting comments get deleted, so it's pretty much a biased site. The first 2 threads I chose to translate were from Baidu's 2ch tieba, which is similar to that of the /r/worldnews subreddit, thus offering a less biased discussion ground.
