I'm just wondering what's your basis when picking a novel to read. (its my first time making a thread so i don't really know much)

In my case I usually decide by this:
    1. Novel picture
    2. The Synopsis
    3. Ranking

I usually based it on this, but sometimes....it doesn't work

There is one time, when ISSTH is still in its early stage and my first reaction was:

"That's really an ugly picture. Why is he posing like that"
"That's not a very good summary"
"I could think of a better title than that"

After the novel is nearly 1000 chapters, I read it with reluctance due to the fact that there's no more updates
in my novels and wondering why is it popular.

Later when I finished a couple of chapters....

"Why didn't I read this much earlier!!"

    So much regret T^T

The pic does not reflect the story/character perse, thats why there is term dont judge a book by its cover
The synopsis in chinese novel is hardly understandable with all the hyperbolic extravagant description
The one i depend usually on the rating and the comments, but of coz not always reliable as different people has different taste, but i think that is more reliable than other method

I don't even look at the picture that much. Synopsis and Tags are big though. Then comes Reviews.

Tags to make sure it doesn't have any big no nos first. Then, Reviews to see if it a majority think it's trash.

I do read the first page if I have nothing better to do even after all that.

here is the method for me. First I get attracted to the novel from the name or from browsing the rankings. Than I go and see what it is about and see if it has some of the things I greatly hate. If I do not think that I will dislike it I read it. while rankings don't matter much they are determined by activity , for rantings my personal feeling is that anything above a 3.5 is doable.bellow 3.5 is an indicator of a major problem. So I go with eliminating the things I don't like over the things I like method.

I have had many novels I regretted reading because I rushed into it without following this methodology. Recently it was something called the dungeon seeker where I realized ir was just horrible.

you should check the review. priority for one that has read more chapter(possibly read the raw ahead) then look for one with full score and one with 1 star to compare. if not look for one of the long review as people wouldn't write that long if they are not serious.

For me it's ratings, reviews, chapters, and sypnosis. If it's below 3.5 it is probably not worth my time but I will consider reading if it is 3.8 and above.

    (4. If I'm still uncertain I'll read some of the reviews.)

For me it's not the name or the cover that really matter when I pick my next read. (Although they may be a plus to the experience as a whole.)
