Father's day is around the corner and I've been wondering what makes a good parent. Good parents come in many shapes and sizes, both figuratively and literally speaking. But beyond that, I've been wondering what sort of good parent I would want to be.

I would want to be a dependable parent. I'd encourage them to make mistakes and to make them early. Financially, I'd want to be able to provide for them. I'd want to be their friend. I would want to be involved in their life but I wouldn't want to be a nag. I'd give them responsibilities like doing the dishes. I would dress them in the cutest clothes. I would support their wildest dreams if they proved that they would put in the work to make it happen. I would want the expectations I lay out to be clear, concrete, and achievable. Above all else, I'd want to offer my children unconditional love.

Anyway, if you were a parent, what sort of parent would you want to be?

Doting my child, strict if I really have to, protective because men is dangerous (in case I have a daughter), playing together if I have free times (games, amusement park, etc).

Well something like that I guess, I'm not even in a relationship yet :blobsob:

I will make sure to teach my children everything i regret my parents never telling me about
in case it's suboptimal to just straightout tell them then hint at it
also I would keep away from their social life, just be a person to talk to, and also do things as a family at least once every 2 weeks maybe only once a month when puberty hits
three absolute basic rules would be
    1. to read 10 books a year (minimum) and also read at least 3 whole scientific books a year (starting at the age of 6)
    2. have social contact to friends at least 3 times a week besides school and also practice social skills
    3. do sports at least twice a week (2 times endurance training and at least one time a wheight/sprint training, starting at the age of 11)

other than that, I would just dote on them (though only 1 sweet a day, and only if they did good)

i know. a sheltered life is not living. i just have anxiety issues and it is acting up thanks to a hypothetical situation where, hypothetically, i got married in the first place or ever got into a relationship.

I’d like to give them an environment thats safe, while also encouraging them to think for themselves. An intelligent friendly parent.

I know they’ll just think I’m weird and embarrassing though. *long sigh* kids...

Even women are bad nowadays. The rate of domestic violence among lesbian couples are higher than of gay men couple.

If it's a son, I'd introduce him to the world of fishing and hunting as soon as he's old enough to understand and make him a good tennis player since those are all hobbies I have.
If it's a daughter, I'd let her play tennis and fishing as soon as she's old enough to. As for hunting, I'll introduce it a little later because I don't want her to become one of those girl running around crazy with a gun.

I'd also let both kids learn martial arts specifically tae kwon do but maybe aikido instead for my daughter since women are naturally weaker then men.

Nevertheless, I'm definitely making both of them into Otakus as well.

buy two houses, i live solely in one while kids & partner in the other. become their father figure as they grow up while also buying gifts online from their wayward 'dad' and than a big reveal when the first one reaches 18.
    that or
the father that trick their kids into thinking homework is a reward instead of a chore
