If you don't want to go QI International route then your best bet is Amazon KDP. If you're prepared enough a book with 30k-40k words can earn you at least $100.

I've made $0.00 from writing, but I got a lot of appreciation out of it, if that counts for something.

    No it doesn't.
Arts are not valued. Why does someone who work at a Fastfood that can kill a person, earn more than an author who improves the mental health of readers?
The issue to me is some authors who believe they are hardcore if they give it for free.
People use Syosetu as an example.
It is so very very stupid.
    Syosetu is not free.
I would argue that Publishers invest in it because it makes it easier to exploit authors.
Have them write complete novels, market it and grow audience essentially do everything the publisher would have spent money on when they publish new authors at zero cost.

Only naive people think free content is a good thing. Taking advantage of authors will kill the industry, it has already killed the manga industry.
Authors are so indoctrinated that they do not know that they are being exploited though.
And members of this community are also indoctrinated into that destructive mindset.
If free was so great, authors/ publishers won't take down stories from Syosetu.

In summary, before idiots praise a system, they should be well informed that it could be freaking slavery. And don't tell me it's culture you punks...slavery also was culture. Doesn't make it any less exploitative and destructive *drops Mic* °I am so darn cool°

I thought that maybe you could create your own site and continue your work there? I mean, you can ask for support directly to your reader from there?

I don't write for Qidian, but I do write and sell my novel on Amazon. For my one novel, Felicia's Second Life Volume 1, I have made about USD4000 in total after 2 years. 30% of that was taken away by the US government because my country doesn't have income tax treaty with the US. Almost 60% of it was what I earned within the first 3 months of it being open for sale. Ai-chan actually beat many more popular books such as the one from Wicked Lovely series, the Clockwork Prince and some other stuff in the fantasy genre in ranking.

Yes, Ai-chan knows that's not a lot, but it's mine.
