Not a fan of the pay for novels model quidan uses. It leads to all these super long repetitive garbage stories that use the word furthermore and moreover way more times than I would like. If I am wrong please correct me as all my knowledge about quidan is heresay as i burned out on 1000+ chapter Chinese novels long before quidan stumbled onto the western markets and have largely ignored them.

well theirs a certain person who translates only paid chapters and then releases them a bit later free but makes you go through his patreon after he has NU link to his websites he has a redirect to his patron. He also does not translate for free and only when people pay him for chapters but he holds the novel due to the 3 month ethics rule.

 

I have a solution for you, just don't be poor.

 

Google-san can help you and he'll do that for free!!! Does brain cancer count as a price to pay for? If yes, then that shite is not free.

There are few but true fan translator, who do ask for money, but that aint the sole reason for their hard work

 

I use to pay for Patreon as a way to support the author but I don’t have much money so I stopped.

If the Patreon release let’s say 7 chapters a week while normal you get 6 chapters then I’ll jump on Patreon. But otherwise it’s like you said your locked in x number of chapters ahead but the same release rate.

The Patreon for EER was the best one I have subscribed to. The translator will put all the chapters that he has translated on the google drive. So sometimes you will be 1 chapter ahead while sometimes you will be 10 chapters ahead. (Though this still has its flaws I liked it the most).

Also qidin premium chapters are ok and sometimes there will be a mass release (5 or more chapters). Also it’s per chapter so you aren’t really locked so if you don’t read for a while for some reason or another you won’t pay. Also some novels there is 1 free and 2-3 premium per day. The free is released at a reasonable rate and there is plenty of premium. So if you have the money to support a translator and author you can. Also by doing daily stuff that take only 1 min you can get 30 or so spirit stones that’s 4-6 chapters.

If I had to chose I prefer the premium chapters over Patreon. But I support where I can. Also for non qidin novels I prefer to donate for an extra release rather than Patreon.

I just wait... Like a normal person and binge that entire "cliffhanger" arc all at once. I've done that since Ren was translating Coiling Dragon. Waited till he finished the entire last volume before I even read a chapter. It's honestly not that difficult. Then again, I actually have patience and wait for my crack to be delivered.

All those premium chaps are available for free at many websites which aren't suitable for posting here

 

I wish these big sites had a subscription model for all their novels. Something like Netflix.

Maybe 2 tiers.
Tier 1 - Up to 10 chapters ahead per novel.
Tier 2 - All chapters available.

Translation groups gets payed with a translation fee plus royalties that keeps generating revenue for the group even when the novel is completely translated.

 

Quidianunderground on Reddit has all chapters that are posted on quidian so u don't have to pay.

Patreon should be used for only the content you really want to support.
It's easy to do to much at once...
