So the thing that kind of bugs me in my reading material is when CHARACTERS START SPEAKING LOUDLY OR SHOUTING IT'S LIKE THIS!!!1 The whole affair is so monotone and saturated with exclamation that I sometimes find that it pulls me out of the story. But then again, I use them in my translations (JP btw) too and though rare, in a corner of my head, I feel it a necessity. So the question comes whether it's appropriate to do this. And what other methods or solutions there may be, I'd be grateful if anyone could share. Also, in general, how do you feel about all-caps, to emphasize things?

I don't feel like i often see translations, or just lit in general having something in all caps. I'd say, for the normal yelling by being surprised or stuff like that, it should just be showed with a !, and only putting something in all caps to really show how much impact that line had, yknow what i mean?

Like you're a police officer wanting to stop someone, and you yell ''Stop!'', vs your wife just died ''NOOOO, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!'' that kinda feeling

I think if it’s like one word to EMPHASIZE- then it’s ok. You could also Bold it instead. Also stands out from the page. Some people are colorblind or (like me) gets dizzy from too many different colors used in a text- so please don’t do that.

I see. But I'm curious about these multicolor translations you speak of. Care to link an example?

It was some rebirth Chinese female MC story where for every word like benwang or nubi or even some names the translator used a different color. Sorry don’t remember the name. But you know one of those “I was engaged to a crown prince, he loved my younger cousin/sister, they somehow killed the MC, and lived happily ever after while the MC swore revenge if only god could give her a second chance” type story. Sorry can’t remember much more, perhaps someone else out here has seen it...??
