As I was scrolling through the latest releases on the hunt for the next thing to read. I started to notice a trend or commonality in a lot of the recent releases, yaoi . Now I have no problem with yaoi and I admit it is a genre I do not read. I cannot relate at all to BL or yuri, now before anyone starts calling me homophobic. I can adamantly say that I am not, I have friends who are openly gay and have been since highschool. Seeing all the flood of yaoi releases made me ask myself; is it really that popular? Is there a big enough audience on NU for all the BL novels and which gender mainly reads it? What are your opinions on the recent spate of yaoi releases?

Yeah mostly females read it but some males do read it.
Well it's like a drug, once you get hooked on it you can't resist it.

After reading most of the good romance novels and being left with the delusional power fantasies, it's actually a great change of pace because it's unconventional, hence I find most of the stories intriguing. More releases would be nice.

Reading yaoi is like breathing to live for some while for me it's akin to a liter of taipan venom whenever I see a good synopsis with a yaoi tag.

:blobsmilehappyeyes:Did you see how popular FOD was? All the rotten people (including me) pretty much flocked to it as soon as they found out, it pretty much made the quick transmigration novels popular. Yaoi's pretty popular for females mainly but the term fudanshi exists too. And i'm not gonna be unhappy that there's translators that want to translate yaoi since I live off of the stuff:cookie:

THat reminds me of a girl from europe who got matched with me in a chatroom... She did express herself openly as a fujoushi and it was fun talking to her(didnt understand all those BL stuff she talk about)... She also told me that they are many like her and also sometimes commision someone to translate some bl for them

i gotta be honest, i read anything everything, as long as i like the story, or the characters, or for some reason just enjoy it, or maybe just because i'm bored. I have low standards. The point of this is, I do read bl stuff, and yes the audience for bl stuff is mainly female, probably. I can't say, because i don't have a statistical chart or data to reference.

Well I don't read because I hate yaoi as much as I hate Yuri. But I read the synopsis and they do deliver a good one, unlike many other CN stories. They have good stories just as they have trash stories. Either way I noticed that some yaoi stories hold the rape tag :blobwoah:, and good number of them.

Yaoi is not suddenly trending..but I admit there's a certain hype with transmigation with a System, being hetero or yaoi novels.
Hence it seems like yaoi is trendy even though we are still a minority. Those novels's plots are kinda overused already, I fear that soon hateful harem novels will reappear.

Yaoi/yuri has a pretty big audience. To my knowledge yaoi at least has a large female draw. One aspect I like about them is that they just let the characters be, in other novels any gay character (male or female) ends up falling for the opposite gender or the author pushes it.

I read yaoi because they are good. I like novels with plot. Therefore currently they have interesting stories. I read other novels as well. So I don't really care. But these days I'm leaning towards this genre simply because any novel I read has too many stupid female characters. I find them insulting to my brain.

    Yaoi is ewwwwww!!!

Again with such a title you are gonna get biased results as people who dont like yaoi are less inclined to open this thread for obv reasons.
