This and the fact that on their main site, most novels are only free up to a certain amount of chapters ( it varies, but usually 100-200).
In their opinion, why the hell should they change a functioning system for fricking foreigners ? They can adapt or they can suffer

Hey, why don't we just boycott their site? Im pretty sure there are more than a few part-time hackers lurking.

the big difference is on the chinese site the writer don't get paid for the first 100 chapters. Basically how it works is you write and post chapters. If by around chapter 100 you get enough support they will sign a contract with you. From then on your chapters will cost money to read and you get 70% of the cut. That's how it works in china and they don't lose money that way because its just profit splitting.

However here they pay translators even if the novel doesn't end up being popular so you can see the problems XD Also t here isn't this huge shortage of books to read in the west like it is in China. So when people have to pay there are lot of better alternative to go to.

I’m shocked you gotta ask this. I don’t think you’re new to reading novels so you should’ve been aware of what Qidian is like. So it obviously comes down to money~

Primarily because I don't read them and they needed to make their money somewhere so I could continue to read the one novel I do read for free.

qidian pays on the low end 20~ usd per chapter and on the high end 60-70+, and that pay increases depending on reader reviews and release consistency. They also are very ambitious and are very actively looking for new translators and have a huge backload of novels that they want translated.

what does this mean? they are pouring in a huge amount of money for quality translations, trying to turn a previously fan driven community into a something driven by money.

There are pros and cons to all of this, and if you want to benefit, you'll have to pay money.

also the release consistency probably has to do with translator consistency

People bashing about qidian adswall are hipocryte and disgust me. Why you people didnt ask about other translation group patreon only chapter?, and donation based chapter? Did the translation group giving some of those money to the author of those story?

Qidian have the right to the story, they need to pay the translator, and they pay the author too what a suprise right..

At least qidian still letting the poor me read the chapter and support the author with only clicking ads.
