I don't know which ones you've read. I didn't have this problem reading Chinese ones, I don't like what you described either.

The black belly male protagonist is a popular trope of CN's, with as iconic example Come and Eat, Shan Shan. As for the ones in the Ancient China setting, like Chongfei Manual, probably not even one has a wussy protagonist. He'd get his ass kicked otherwise. Some do have misunderstandings though, like Rolling Love. But most are completely fluffy or comedy: Why Not Soar Your Majesty, Really, Really Miss You, Tea of Summer, ...

I'm too lazy, but I've replied to like five threads about romance novels already with plenty of suggestions, sometimes with a little bit of explanation.

Here's most of my previous posts in romance novel threads. There's overlap between the posts. Press on the UP arrow in the last quote to go to the original post in another thread, which contains quotes of other, earlier posts of mine with a lot more suggestions. (Quotes of posts containing quotes, don't keep those quotes when quoted. ) Quality in story and translation varies from excellent to okay.

Having read a bunch romance i can feel your pain, but that is mostly because of the target audience... teenage boys. If you look around you can find good romance. My favorites are Silent voice and Mango Bone (which was worth I paid for it and had a realistic portrayal of a raped character). Just look around, more serious stories often have better romance as well as stories who have an older target audience.

 

Welcome to JP novels, a lot of harem novels that have this exact thing. Seriously though, just keep searching for novels on the website and you'll find your right one.

I can argue quite strongly that your ability to pick novels is quite "thrash" ...worthy

And to those you keep responding Japanese novels. Your sense of judging is even worse. There is a reason, Koreans are hoping an author from Korea can also win a Nobel prize in literature like Japan has done.
