Have you tried "My Disciple Died Yet Again"? It's a comedy that doesn't have that much straight up fighting, but the MC becomes quite bad ass as time goes on. ... Though she does still die a lot.. It's also one of the few Chinese novels I've read where the MC actually sticks by the belief that killing people is bad.

Kino no Tabi – The Beautiful World - A beautiful novel about a woman who travels around this magical world. She is pretty cool headed and she sure can protect herself with a gun. Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? - As a guy, this is one of my most favorite female MCs ever. Violet Evergarden - I think you meant you wanted those Chinese xianxia novels or whatever when you mentioned martial arts. Well, these 3 novels are all Japanese and all of their combat styles are vastly different.
