    Prologue: Death and Rebirth

    “.…iel!”

    (…Huh?…)

    “Quickly call for a doctor!”

    (Why is it so…noisy?)

Slightly looking towards the sound through my heavy eyelids, there was a man with silver hair that frantically called out to me…he seems to be worriedly looking at a direction but my body felt so heavy that it was difficult to even move my eyes.

    (…What happened again?…)

“Yuriel, stay with me! Don’t fall asleep!”

(Ah… That’s right…I got run over by a truck that ignored the stoplight…I remember that my body went flying through the air but other than that… everything went dark before I even landed…but who is this Yuriel?…My name is…what was my name again?)

As I thought of memories that didn’t seem to surface, my eyelids slowly closed. And my mind was quickly enveloped in darkness.

(Looks like the transfer was a success)

Inside my cloudy mind, I could hear someone’s voice speaking…

(Who are you?), I asked the disembodied voice.

(Looks like you can still hear me. Since I don’t have much time left, I will say this quickly. I placed you in a different body. One that’s from a completely different world than your previous one)

    (What are you talking about?)

(To put it bluntly, you weren’t supposed to die yet, but due to a error on my part, your physical form got caught up and died.

I already got the permission of the original owner of the body that you’re in, so you will have to deal with starting off again as a 9 year old child)

    (Wait…Who are you…why?…)

Being unable to keep my consciousness any longer, everything slowly turned dark…

(Looks like your soul is already setting in. That’s my cue to leave… By the way, the original owner wanted me to tell you that he hopes you have fun in his stead. Also, try not to die too early. It was a pain to make that goddess agree with me after all)

Chapter 1: Yuriel Gadius Northe (Age 9) - Unfamiliar

When I woke up, I was laying on top of a large and soft bed within a very luxurious-looking room.

    Ah!”

As I tried to raise my body from the bed, I felt a sharp pain run through my lower abdomen. When I lifted my shirt to take a look, I was wrapped in bandages and I could feel the traces of stitches underneath it.

“Master!”, a voice suddenly called out.

When I looked at the source of the voice, a young woman wearing a maid-like uniform entered my sights. She seemed surprised to see me, as was I of her.

    “Um…”

Though it was difficult to speak due to having a dry throat, I still tried to call out to her but before I could even say something, she immediately fled out of the room and rushed off somewhere.

I was left dumbfounded for a moment but then quickly gathered my thoughts and recalled what happened.

(…I remember that I was on my way home from school. That I was supposed to stop by the convenience store to buy the magazine that my sister asked me to buy. When I was crossing the street, I was suddenly struck by a truck that ignored the stoplight… Why can’t I remember useful things like the name of my sister or myself?)

Who is this sister? I can’t remember her or my own name but I can somehow still remember things that I did before or how my life was like previously. I have also a clear understanding that this is not my original body.

In the one in my memories, I am a black haired boy in my late teens with a height of 173 cm, but by what I see from the mirror close to my bed, I have long blonde hair and jade-colored eyes, I also seem to still be a child.

My current appearance seems to be on the more feminine side as my face is very cute for a young boy my age.

Is this what’s called ‘transmigration’? Did I enter this body when my original one died? But what about they original owner of this body?

    “Yuriel!”

Just as I was inspecting my current self, the door suddenly swung open and I was suddenly embraced between two soft objects.

“My dear child! I’m so glad that you have woken up!”

By the sensation that I’m feeling, I’m being hugged by a woman. I don’t recognize her voice but it does have a very motherly-feeling.

“Calm down, Mari. Yuriel is still weak”

I heard another voice. It was deep and gentle-like.

I think I’ve heard this voice before.

    “...”

Being released, I was finally able to see the faces of the people in front of me.

One was a very handsome man with clear silvery-white hair. He wore very formal clothing that was neither gaudy nor too plain. His sharp eyes made him look strict but also somewhat gentle as well.

The one that tightly hugged me a moment ago was a very beautiful woman with long straight blonde hair, she looks really young but I have this feeling that she is not as young as she looks.

There are other people in the room as well but it appears that my eyesight is not that good to properly make out their appearances.

    “How are you feeling, Yuriel?”

The man asks me calmly, a tint of worry could be seen on his face.

    “Um…”

Seeing me having trouble speaking, the woman handed me a cup of water.

I politely take the cup and drank its contents. My throat felt better so she then asked me again, I uneasily spoke.

    “Um…”

    “Yes? What is it, dear?”

The woman asks me worriedly as she grips on to my hand.

    “...Eto…Who are you?”

I decided to ask since no memory surfaces no matter how hard I tried.

    “D-Doctor!”

Taking my question as a shock, the woman suddenly made an expression of despair as she looks at the person that appears to be an elderly man standing beside the door. The elderly man then approaches me while looking intently at my face.

We stared at each other for a while, though I was confused as to why, I didn’t break eye-contact.

After staring at my face for some time, he started speaking with a troubled tone.

“...Forgive me, Your Graces. It would appear like the young master has lost some memories due to the trauma of hitting his head on hard pavement. The test that I have run had shown that there is no problem with his body or mind but this may be a factor outside of those two. Forgive me for being unable to give a clear answer”

Hearing the elderly man’s words, the woman’s eyes started to well up with tears as she gazed towards me.

“T-That cannot be”, she spoke in disbelief.

“...Mari”, even the man that stood near her couldn’t help but show a saddened expression. “…If even the best healing doctor of the kingdom finds it difficult, then we have no choice but to bitterly accept it. You may return for today, doctor. We will call you again if Yuriel’s condition shows any changes”

It seems like he doesn’t know what’s happening as well but I simply can’t say that I am not the person that they think I am.

After waving his hand towards the elderly man, the doctor moved out of the room while being escorted by another woman that wore a maid-like uniform.

“M-My child…My dear child… Do you not remember me!? I am your mother, Marietta, this is your father, Simon. Do you not remember us?”

The woman begins to hug me tightly, as she wept and while trying to introduce herself and the man standing behind her.

I don’t really understand what had happened but I ignored that for a moment and hugged her to make her calm down.

“I don’t really understand but please don’t cry”

I tried to calm her by hugging but it resulted in her embrace growing even tighter.

From what I can understand right now, this person seems to be my mother and the man that now has a very bitter look on his face is my father. These people seem to care for me (or the person that originally owned this body) rather deeply.

After a while, the woman- I mean, mother stopped crying and asked me to rest. She and father left the room shortly after while telling me to take it easy.

Currently, there’s only me and the first maid that I saw when I woke up.

“Do you require something, young master?”

She asks me as she assists in placing a pillow on my back.

“Um…Did I wear something for my eyes? I can’t seem to be able to see properly”

She seems to have immediately understood what I wanted, as she immediately walked towards the dresser beside my bed.

“Here you are, young master. The master has already requested for a replacement as your previous ones broke. Please forgive me but you will have to settle for this at the moment”

She hands me a pair of glasses that were slightly cracked on one of its lenses.

    “Thank you”

She suddenly paused for a moment while staring at my face with a dumbfounded look.

    “...

For some reason, her eyes were now slightly moist as well and she is somewhat suppressing herself from crying.

    “Um, is there something wrong?”

”No. Forgive me for showing such a sight. I became rather emotional from suddenly being thanked by young master”

    “Eh?”

Does she mean that this is the first time that I thanked her?

“Eto…Can you tell me your name?”

“You have given me the name, Claire”

    I gave her?

More questions entered my thoughts because of her.

“Um, Claire…was it? Can you tell me about myself? Also about what happened to me? You might have already heard but I can’t seem to recall any of my old memories”

I decided to ask Claire about the identity of the person that I am now am.

I need information of who I am if I’m going to be living in this person’s body after all.

    “Understood….”

Claire then explains to me about who I am.

After listening to her for a while, I understood some things about me and about my family.

My name is Yuriel Northe, 9 years old and the youngest child of Simon and Marietta Northe. My family is of a Duke rank nobility and father also works as this country’s prime minister.

I have three other siblings, two are twin girls that are a year older than me and an elder brother who’s four years older that’s currently boarding at an academy.

Apparently my sister weren’t being allowed to see me due to my condition while my elder brother still hasn’t known of what happened to me due to participating in an excursion.

She then explained to me about my previous personality.

Due to being sheltered by both my parents and my siblings, I grew to be a very shy and quiet child. I hardly separated myself from my parents or siblings and have never accepted any invitation from other noble children. Frankly speaking, my reputation among other nobles is not that good due to not socializing myself with other nobles.

Claire, who seems to be the only servant I am fine being with, is a slave that my grandfather gifted to me on my 7th birthday. The reason for why she was given to me was because of her unique trait of having reptile-like scales on her arms and cheeks that she inherited from her ancestors, the dragonkin. She seems to also be adept in combat, so aside from being my maid she is also my bodyguard.

As to what happened to me to end up like this, there seems to have been an incident that endangered my life when I was out in town with father.

There was an assailant that was originally aiming for father’s life but when they found that father's security was too dense, they switched their attention over to me because I was separated due to the commotion. That was the only time that Claire wasn’t with me, so I was dragged into the situation and unfortunately got harmed.

Being the prime minister, father has a number of enemies that want him dead. Even if they wanted to interrogate the man that attacked us, they couldn’t do so as they immediately committed suicide as soon as they were captured by the guards. The matter about my incident is being heavily investigated with grandfather spearheading the investigation.

It seems like my grandfather is the head of this country’s knights.

It has already been three days since then and I only woke up just a few moments ago.

After Claire finished her explanation, she fixed up my bed sheets, took my glasses and then tucked me in.

“Please rest, young master. This Claire will stay with you until you fall asleep”

As though her words were a magical spell, I immediately fell asleep.

The thoughts of what will happen from now on passed my mind but it immediately faded away due to my tiredness.

Sorry but this is my own work. Not really confident with this one as I only made it due to a thought. I currently have 7 chapters made but I still need to do revisions and changes

Chapter 2: Yuriel Gadius Northe (Age 9) - Waking up

It was already the next day when I opened my eyes.

Compared to how my body felt yesterday, I feel slightly better.

    “Aah!!!”

    Bam!

But I tried to stand up, my legs immediately gave out, making me collapse and hit the table beside my bed.

    “Are you okay, young master!?”

Claire, who seems to have just been outside of the room, immediately entered and helped me get up.

    “Allow me”

    “Thank you, Claire”

    “Let me prepare your wheelchair”

After sitting me on to the bed, Claire moved to one corner of the room and took out a wheelchair from the closet before returning and placing me on it.

“Where do you wish to go, young master?”, she asks.

“My body feels somewhat sticky, can you bring me to a place where I can wash up?”

I can smell the sweat on my body, so I would like to enjoy a shower or a bath.

“Please let me to do that〖Bubble Clean〗”

With her palm facing me, Claire’s hand started to shine green and I suddenly felt the disgusting feeling of sweat on my body disappear. It was so amazing that I just stared at her with wide eyes.

    “Um, young master?”

“What was that!?”, I asked her excitedly.

“It is a daily life magic called〖Bubble Clean〗. It removes the dirt and sweat off of a person’s body without the actual need of cleaning with water. It is quite a useful spell for cleaning the body when water is unavailable but it doesn’t give the same satisfying feeling as actually getting washed”

    “Can I also do that!?”

She shows me tiny smile before answering.

“I believe that you are at the age where learning magic is possible. If young master were to request it then young master’s parent would surely allow it”

    “Waa~!”

While was looking forward at the prospect of learning magic, Claire smiled gently and started changing my clothes for me.

I was initially surprised but I pushed aside my embarrassment and simply allowed her to do it, I really can’t move my body properly, so her help is well appreciated. It might be because my body is that of a child now but I don’t get sexually excited by being clothed by this beautiful grown woman.

After properly dressing me up, Claire and I left the room. She pushed me down the corridor on my wheelchair while I took in the sight outside the window.

Looking at my surroundings, we seem to be living in a rather large mansion. Maybe because father is the prime minister, our house is quite wealthy. There’s not much decorations placed around to show our wealth as it appears that my parents enjoy simplicity rather than luxury. It also felt quite homely for a mansion this big.

As Claire continued to push my wheelchair, we pass by servants who then stop what they were doing to bow towards my direction. I feel awkward but I should try to learn to get used to this feeling.

Before long, we finally arrived at a room that seems to be the dining room.

    “Yuriel!”

I was immediately seen by mother who was having her breakfast, when Claire pushed me inside.

My thoughts quickly halted when I properly saw mother’s appearance. I wasn’t wrong to think that she was gorgeous woman when I first saw her.

With a face that look like it was sculpted by an artist, she had the aura of a high-class lady.

I still find it hard to believe that this person is now my mother, it’s harder to believe that I she is someone who’s already past her late thirties while also having given birth to four children.

“Are you sure you are fine being out of bed?”

Mother worriedly asks me as she crouches down to meet my gaze.

“Please don’t worry, mother. Other than being sluggish due to being bedridden, I feel fine”

I smiled gently to mother in order to show her my proof.

“Do not push yourself, okay? Here, sit next to mother. I will help feed you”

Mother seems to really dote on me as she immediately placed my wheelchair next to her seat without waiting for my reply.

    “Here. Chew slowly, okay?”

She brings a spoon close to my mouth but I refused by raising my hand.

“Please let me do it myself, mother. I could at least do this much by myself”

“Are you sure? Mother is fine with doing this, you know?”

“I am sure. I’m sorry mother but allow me to do this”

“...Very well…try not to overexert yourself, okay?”, though she was reluctant to do so, she pulled back her spoon and allowed my request.

She was attentive of me while she ate, but she didn’t do anything and simply watched. Mother was being respectful of my request but the worry in her eyes wouldn’t vanish.

    “...”

Maybe because this body was immobile for some days or maybe I didn’t have much physical strength to begin with, it was hard to even lift up my cup.

I still tried my best but I grew tired after a few more times.

I should really be in bed so that I can slowly recover but I wanted to find out more about the place0 I am, sooner rather than later.

    “...”

As I chewed on the bread and ate a mouthful of the oatmeal-like food in my bowl, I unconsciously furrowed my brows.

“Is there something wrong with the food, dear? The head chef made it so that your food would be easy to digest”

“Um…I’m sorry. It is nothing. The food is… delicious”

The food isn’t really bad, it’s just that the taste is too bland.

Is this world’s culinary level low or is it simply because my body hasn’t fully recovered yet? Is my sense of taste is distorted? I guess I’ll investigate it at another date.

When I finished my breakfast, mother smiled a gentle smile.

“Well done, dear”, she said as she gently caressed my head.

It was rather embarrassing to be praised just because I finished eating my breakfast by myself, but I still gave her a smile.

“Your father is currently handling important matters at the castle, so it is a shame that he couldn’t see you”

“I am sure that father is worried about me but he is an important person of this country. It could not be helped that father had to leave for work”

Mother smiles once more before placing a hand on my cheek.

    “That is right”

Feeling the gentle sensation of her hand caressing my cheek, I felt warm inside.

This was my time feeling such an emotion from a parent. My own parents didn’t really give any parental affection to me or my sister. At most, they showed it using monetary means or just gifts that we didn’t ask for.

As I warmly accepted mother’s caressing touch, she looked at one of the servant before nodding at one of them. It was only a short moment after when one servant approached with a small bottle of yellow liquid.

“Now that you have finished eating, mother wants you to drink this”, she removes cork on the bottle and shows a uncomfortable expression.

    “Um?…”

“It is a recovery potion that the doctor left for you to drink. Even though it has such an odor, I wish for you to endure it”

Hearing her words, I cautiously took the bottle from her hands, then the smell of the contents entered my nose.

    “Urgh!”

Immediately after I did that, the horrid smell almost made me regurgitate the meal that I just had.

(Eugh…It smells like rotten fish and eggs)

‘Do I really have to drink this?’, is what I thought but when I look at mother, she was worriedly looking at me.

Sucking up my courage, I quickly drank the disgusting drink.

It tasted horrible and it felt like I was going to puke it out if I didn’t focus, but a moment after the horrid taste, I felt my body slowly become lighter. It was as if my body became lighter and healthier in just that short moment.

Maybe because mother noticed my expression, she quickly placed her hand on my back then spoke.

“The potion heals your body but it does not heal it completely. You will still need to take time before you are back to normal”

“Un”, I nodded my head as I focused on breathing out the disgusting feeling inside my throat.

Just as I was going to grab a drink to cleanse my palate, the door swung open and two pairs of footsteps quickly approached me.

    ““Yuri!””

And from there shouted two young girls.

Chapter 3 - Yuriel Gadius Northe (Age 9) - Sisters

Upon finishing my breakfast (and the horrible potion), the door swung open and two girls entered with fast steps.

    ““Yuri!””

    “Oomph!”

The two immediately jumped on to me as soon as their eyes met mine.

    “...Um”

Though their faces were alike, they both had traits that set them apart.

Aside from sharing the same jade-colored eyes as me, the one to my left had long silver hair, much like father’s, and the one to my right shared the same blonde hair as mother and I.

    “Yuriiii~”

    “Yuri~~”

Their appearance were that of pure and proper ladies, but the way they suddenly dove into my stomach, broke that image.

“We’re so glad you are alive”, said the silver haired girl.

“You are now forbidden from leaving our side ever again!”, the blonde haired girl complained.

The strength of the two’s hug became even tighter, making me suffocate between them.

I have an idea who these two are, but I do wish they consider my condition right now.

“Girls! Stop bothering your brother. He is still in the middle of healing”, scolded mother. She wore an angry expression, making the two back down in fear.

    ““…””

Though they didn’t reply to her words, they did let go of me, rather reluctantly.

    “Um, Mother…these two are?”

I already had an idea but it’s best to be sure.

    “What are you saying, Yuri?”

    “Do you not recognize us?”

    They both asked in shock.

I only shook my head horizontally in response.

“Did your father not tell you last night?…”

Mother showed a somewhat sad smile on her face as she turned her gaze towards me.

““M-Mother?””, the two looked uneasy as they waited for her words.

“Yuriel…had lost his memories. The doctor said that they don’t know if his memories would ever return”

The two’s eyes widened in disbelief.

After alternating their eyes between me and each other, both suddenly embraced me tightly. A wet sensation could be felt on my neck as they continued doing so.

“You may not remember them, Yuriel, but these two are your older sisters, Marie and Mary”, said mother but her gentle voice was on the verge of crying as she tried her best to speak.

“Yuri, you may not remember me but I am your beloved elder sister, Marie. You loved how I always read you stories in the garden”, said the silver-haired girl as she crouched in front of me, softly grasping my left hand.

“I’m Mary, you always fuss about how I always braid you hair into girly styles but you always let me do it anyway. I always make you climbed the trees in the garden with me, even when Marie and mother tells me not too”, said the blonde-haired girl. She also crouched and took my right hand. Streams were flowing down her cheeks as she bit her lips.

The two squeezed my hands tightly as they continued to look at me.

    “Yuri?”

    “...”

I released my hands from the two of them and brought them into an embrace.

“I am happy to know that I have such caring sisters. Thank you for always taking care of me. I’m sorry for forgetting you”

    “Yuri…”

    Hic Uuuuuu!”

Without even a moment’s pass, the two let our soft cries as they clung to me. Mother was borrowing Claire’s shoulder as she tried to her crying figure from the both of us. Even the other servants around the room couldn’t help but feel sad due to the current atmosphere.

No one allowed their voices leak but they still wept in the silent dining room.

It took a while for my sisters; Marie and Mary to eventually stop. They then cheered themselves up by pampering me during and after breakfast their breakfast.

I was brought around on my wheelchair all around the mansion, telling me about my favorite spots and where we usually played. I could tell that some of the things that they told me were lies but they seemed to have told for my sake.

They continued staying by my side until it was almost sunset and father called me to his office. Marie and Mary were vehement on sticking to me closely for the whole day but they were stopped when mother came to scold them.

    Knock knock

    “Father… It is Yuriel”

Knocking on the door to father’s office, I call out to him. It was only a short moment after when I received a short “Come in” as a reply.

Claire opened the door and brought me inside.

“Leave us for now”, ordered father to Claire.

    “...”

She only replied by giving a short bow.

When we were the only one’s left in the room, father opened his mouth to speak.

“How is your condition?”, he asked. His eyes didn’t leave the document in his hand.

“I feel better than yesterday. It is all thanks to the potion that mother had me drink, though I am still unable to stand up”

“That is normal”, he nodded. “Even with the use of strong potions, it is difficult to regain lost blood and stamina. You will need to rest a few more days for your body to readjust itself”

    “I will do that”

“How about your memories? Do you still not recall anything?”

This time he looked at me. A worried look was spread across his face.

I could only shake my head sideways.

“I see…We have already captured the people responsible for what happened to you. Father will personally make sure that they regret putting you in danger”

A scary expression suddenly replaced his worried one. It was enough to even make me take a step back in fear though I couldn’t since I was sitting down.

    “Ehem…”

Maybe because he noticed my discomfort, Father fixed his expression before looking at me with a now gentle smile.

“I’m sorry. You can retire to your room now”

Saying those words, Father returned his sights to the documents that were on his table…but I was curious of some things.

Since I was placed relatively close to father’s table, I noticed the words that were written on the documents spread about. I can properly read the letters on them.

    “Father, may I ask something?”

“What is it?”, he looks away from the document.

    “What is that document about?”

“This?… Well, it’s should not be a problem if I tell you about this but I will have you promise that you tell no one about it, okay?”

    I nodded in reply.

“Currently, a fief within the kingdom has been experiencing a decline in their crop yield”, he hands me the document. “It is not at the point where the people are starving but it is increasing the prices of goods making it difficult for the citizens to purchase their necessities”

“Should it not be because of soil exhaustion?”, I told him.

“Exhaustion? Are you saying that the soil is too tired to produce crops?”, father looked at me puzzled.

I then explained to him the importance of letting the soil rest and regain its nutrients by planting certain crops and plants.

“I see…If that is the case, what do you suggest we do?”

Father’s eyes turned rather sharp as he leans on his desk with his chin resting on the back of his hands.

“Um…Is it fine that you are asking a child for such things?”

“I had always believe that Yuriel was a bright child even before you lost your memories. Do not mind about the trivial things and speak your mind”

He smiles gently but even that makes me intimidated of him.

    “...I-If you are certain then…”

Being urged by him, I then told him methods like crop rotation and using certain composts to revitalize the soil. He intently listened to my words, taking notes of certain things that I brought up. I became rather troubled since he was taking advice from a child but the serious expression that he wore made me unable to back down.

After listening to my explanation, father leaned back on his chair and looked at me with crossed arms.

“Truthfully speaking, His Majesty and I had considered requesting the Elfred Kingdom for assistance in this matter since the elves there are more knowledgeable in taking care of plants and crops. But if you’re method turns effective, the there is no need to do so. We may even increase the variety of crops that the country produces”

When I asked him if he is sure about using my advice, he gently smiles and pats my head from across the table before saying, “Don’t worry. I’ll take the responsibility if it ends badly”.

“...I understand”, though I still felt very uneasy.

“But, Yuriel…”, his eyes became serious, “Do not tell anyone about this matter, okay? I want you to promise me this”

I nodded, wanting to finally end this conversation.

    “Good”

Saying those words, Father calls for Claire to take me away.

I said my farewell to father before telling Claire to bring me to my room’s terrace so I could take in some fresh air.

Hearing the chirping sounds of insects, my mind finally comes to terms that I am now in another world, though I wonder why I accepted this easily?

Even when I heard that magic and potions exist, I wasn’t as surprised as I thought I would be. My manner of speaking also changed from how it original was. Perhaps I unconsciously wanted a life like this? I don’t know…but one thing is decided… I will enjoy my second life.

Chapter 4: Yuriel Gadius Northe (Age 9) - Visiting the Castle (Part 1)

Some time has passed since I fully recovered. I don’t need to use the wheelchair anymore and I could do basic tasks that a 9 year old could do… not like my parents and the other servants would let me though.

Since I was able to move around, my sisters wouldn’t stop using every second available to them to stick close to me. That in itself wasn’t too much of a bother to me but mother repeatedly scolded them since they usually attach to me during my study with my new tutor.

“That’s is correct, Master Yuriel”, said the green haired woman sitting beside me. “It has only been a few days since we started but to have already grasped most of your subjects, especially in your arithmetic. I am quite impressed as your instructor”

This person is Miss Riona Greenwood, a tutor that father hired for me. Teacher is a person of half elven descent; sporting slightly pointed ears and green hair that is a lighter shade than regular elves.

Apparently, teacher is a part-time instructor at elder brother’s school, while she works full time as a magic researcher. She was personally asked by father, and was promised finacial support in her research, if she were to tutor me. It was needless to say that she immediately accepted it with tears in her eyes.

“It is all thanks to Miss Riona’s that I am able to quickly understand my subjects”

“My, my~ I am glad to hear that”

It’s all thanks to her that I learned all sorts of information about this world.

The letters and numbers here are fairly similar to earth’s, so it was possible for me to learn it quickly.

By the way, the planet that we live in is called Gaia and the country that we currently reside in, is called the Centra Kingdom. It is located in large continent at the northern hemisphere called Directia.

As it turns out, Centra is known as one of the world’s major powers as well as the number one exporter of crystals known as 'Mana Crystals'.

These crystals could power tools and devices that require a element called mana. Mana is something that can be found within the majority of this world’s inhabitants but within mana crystal, the amount is much higher.

There are also various races that make up this world’s inhabitants but the majority are made up of us human’s. Teacher says that it has something to do with how human’s have shorter lives, so they tend to want to build up their numbers quickly.

When I asked teacher if races were being treated with discrimination, she momentarily looked at me with wide eyes before calmly answering me.

“It is true that there are certain countries that treat races outside of their own as someone below them, but here in Centra, that sort of treatment is frowned upon.

Centra was built over 600 years ago by the hands of various races working together, and was made to strive for unity among its people.

If one were to look down on someone of a different race inside this kindgom, it will be the same as looking down on the efforts that our ancestors made...Well, even if that’s the case, there is no shortage of people who one-sidedly discriminate other races in this country. Especially in the slave market, where people with money will buy those of certain races just to-… I’m sorry. You are still too young for that kind of topic”

Learning this, I was slightly glad that this country is not one that oppresses other races but it is also quite troubling to know it’s not the same in other countries. It’s also troubling that teacher almost shifted her topic to the adult side of slavery.

“Well that should be it for today. You will be visiting the castle with Lord Northe, right? Then it is best that we cut off our lessons right here”

“Thank you for today, Miss Riona”

“Fu fu~ It is part of my job after all”, she pats my head while smiling. "Also, teaching such a bright student is fun. It seems like the rumors about you are not to be believed”

Rumors? I have heard from Claire about my past, but I didn’t imagine that there would be rumors about me.

I was quite curious about it, so I asked her.

“Well, I heard from some students that you are a frail child that’s why you are hardly seen outside. Some rumors says that you are an eccentric child that uses Lord Northe’s influence and money to do some questionable things. There were also some rumors that say that you are actually the child of a mistress… well looking at you, you closely resemble the madam much more than your elder sisters so that should be false”

    I wryly smile towards teacher.

I don’t know if I should take that last one as a compliment or an insult.

“Well as it is nothing but rumors, you shouldn’t mind them. Let’s just tidy up here”

I decided to ignore the rumors about me and helped teacher tidy up. It was only a few minutes later that Claire entered the room.

“Young master, master Simon order me to fetch you”

“Miss Riona, I will be heading out now”

    “Take care, young master”

After waving goodbye to teacher, I head towards where father was waiting, with Claire following closely behind me.

    “Let us quickly depart”

When I arrived, father immediately carried me up on the carriage. Mother and my sisters had visited a family acquaintance’s tea party so they weren’t here to see us off.

“I’ll be going now, Claire”, I told her as she wasn’t going to join us.

“Take care, young master”, she replied with a swift bow. “I will make sure that the item that you requested will be produced immediately. It should be made today or as soon as tomorrow”

“Thank you, Claire”, I pat her head, to which she showed a pleased expression.

“Yuriel, let us go”, father, who had finished speaking with one of the servants, finally climbed inside.

We immediately set out soon after.

Our destination today is the royal castle to meet with the king.

Apparently, His Majesty wanted to see me for some reason. Father didn’t say why but he did mention that it wasn’t something that I should worry about.

    “...”

    “...”

The atmosphere was awkward as the only sound that could be heard was the moving of the carriage, the noisy the streets and the hooves of the horses clacking against pavement.

Father quietly read the documents in his hand while I on the other-hand, looked out of the window to see the scenery.

In this past few days that I’ve been living in this body, I learned that Father hardly starts a conversation himself. It is mostly we that start a conversation with him when it is just simple casual talk.

Mother told me that father doesn’t know how to interact with us but he is trying his best to act fatherly.

Due to him usually being in the castle, he only ever returns home when it is dinner time. It is because of this that he is worrying that we are starting to grow distant to him.

Truth be told, father’s much better than my previous parents, who simply focused their lives in making money…

    “...”

Sometimes, father turns his eyes towards me but he doesn’t strike up a conversation no matter how many times he stares.

I would strike up a conversation myself, but mother clearly told me to refrain from it, so that he learns to do it himself.

Before long we arrived in front of the castle gates, I could see father give off a look of disappointment when the carriage door opened. He really regrets not being able to speak with his child.

As soon as we climbed down the carriage, we were immediately escorted inside by a middle-aged looking servant and a knight.

The corridors of the castle were large and beautiful. Not a speck of dust could be seen from any of the decorations, meaning that this place is constantly cleaned by the servants here. Now that I think about it, I hardly ever see the inside of our mansion being messy.

While I was admiring the cleanliness of the castle, we finally arrived in front of a wide double door with two guards standing on both sides. When they saw father, they both saluted him with straightened backs. The servant that guided us here, promptly left afterwards.

    “Excuse me”

Father gave them a short nod then immediately opened the door without even knocking.

Doing this would be rude but since the guards that stood beside us didn’t say anything, I imagine that this is a normal occurrence here.

I timidly followed after father, keeping myself close behind him.

Contrary to the tidy corridor outside, the room was very messy to the point that I couldn’t see the floor, due to the amount of books and papers scattered around.

“Yuriel, stay put for the moment”, said father.

My urge to clean this room up was strong but I held myself back, as I watch father swiftly moved across the various obstacle towards the desk at the other side of the room.

“Your Majesty, how many times have I told you to refrain from acting so disorderly. What if you misplace an important document under all these”

I couldn’t see father’s face but the calm tone of his voice was colder than usual.

    “.…Muu? Ah! It’s Simon!”

From the other side of the pile of books, I heard someone answering rather stupidly.

    “...Well…Your Majesty?”

“I-I get it! I get it! I’ll tidy up, so please stop glaring at me like that!”

From what I’m understanding, the person behind those pile of books is the king and said king is very afraid of father… I guess even if you were a king, being stared at by father’s icy gaze would be too much.

I felt a slight sense of admiration towards father but I also felt bad for His Majesty.

After a short moment, I could hear His Majesty say “〖Sweep〗” with reluctance in his voice, then after the feeling of a breeze passed by me, the books and papers scattered around the room suddenly started to float in the air.

Each and every single one of of them moved to one corner of the room, tidily organizing themselves in proper stacks.

Less than 5 minutes passed when the room was tidied up. Not a single book nor paper was out of place and not even dust could be seen floating around.

    “There!”

I once again heard the carefree voice of His Majesty, when I turned my face towards the desk where he sat, I was met with a person with a youthful appearance.

His crimson hair and deep blue eyes were showing delight as he looked around with a smug face. His appearance was the very image of an energetic youth but from what I remember from Miss Riona classes, he should be the same age as father.

Even though father looks like he is still in his late 20s, in reality he is already 42 years old. The king looks even younger compared to him. As though he is still in his early 20s.

“...I have only been absent for a few days yet you had already managed to make your office into such a mess. What would Her Grace say if she were to see you like this”

“D-Don’t tell, Paula. I don’t want to sleep on the floor again”

The youthful king had the look of fear on his face when he heard father’s words.

Does the queen have a tight leash on His Majesty’s neck? Are the women in this world that strong-willed?

As I was imagining various things, I heard father sigh before he turned towards me.

“…As you have requested, I have brought Yuriel along. Please make it quick, as I do not want my child to learn your childishness”

The youthful king finally turns his face towards me. His troubled looked from earlier was now gone, and a bright smile bloomed on his face.

“Ah~ Looks like you are doing well, Yuriel~ How are you feeling?”

He was rather friendly and positive but I can’t help but imagine him to be someone who will do something stupid if there wasn’t anyone to monitor him.

“Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty. I have recovered quite a bit since the incident”

I spoke formally and politely while placing my left hand to my chest and bowing.

“That’s good, that’s good… But stop being so formal. You are still a child. If you keep acting like that, you’ll grow up to be a grouch like Simon”

    “...”

    “Your Majesty…”

Father was now glaring at His Majesty, making the room’s temperature drop. His Majesty on the other-hand ignored him and continued to look at me.

    “Well?”

    “.…Okay”

“That’s better”, he smiles even brighter than earlier.

Father sighs but doesn’t do anything.

“Well, I have heard that you lost all of your memories. Do you still not recall anything?”

“Yes, but I am slowly relearning everything. It is fun to learn if I’m being honest”

I showed a childish smile to him and he continued smiling back in return.

“I see~ I see~ You really have turned into a completely different child from how were before”

    “...Your Majesty”

Though Father was already annoyed by His Majesty, his cold tone became even deeper. It’s as though I can see the figurative cold sweat that he was shedding right now.

“T-That is of course a joke! A joke!~”, his shoulders trembled as he tried to explain himself. “A-Anyway, it is good that you are doing better now. When Charlotte learned of what happened, she was devastated”

    Charlotte?

Hearing an unfamiliar person’s name, I quickly asked him.

“Huh? Did no one tell you about her?”

“I am sorry. During the last few days, I was preoccupied with relearning everything. I have not yet ask about the people that I was previously acquainted with”

    “...Simon?”

His Majesty shifts his gaze at father with a troubled smile.

“It is fine if he learns of it by himself. This is a matter about the two of them, is it not?”, father answered.

“W-Well yeah…but are you sure about not wanting to tell him? This is after all related to his-”

“Like I have said, it is best that he learns of it by himself”

    “I...I see”

His expression now changed into a wry smile as he returned his gaze to me.

“Well… I guess to start things off. Charlotte is my youngest daughter…”, as if finding it difficult to continue, His Majesty cut himself off then once again spoke. “You know what? It is best that you meet with her yourself. That girl should be more than happy to see you too”

Quickly taking out a bell from a drawer, His Majesty rang it.

“How may I be of service, Your Majesty”

Immediately after ringing it, a maid appeared behind us.

Is she a ninja or something? I didn’t even hear the door open!

“What is Charlotte’s schedule for today?”

“The princes has just finished her sword practice and is now resting inside her room”

“Very well. Escort Yuriel here to her room. Afterwards, cancel everything that is scheduled for her today. If she has a meeting with another noble child then use my name to send them home. Do not tell them who she is meeting with”

    “Understood”

The maid bowed then waited for me at the doorway. I on the other-hand looked at father, troubled.

“I will have someone come to pick you up when we are to return home. Go play with princess Charlotte for the moment”

“Try not getting yourself hurt, okay?”, said the king.

Seeing that I couldn’t refuse, I reluctantly followed the maid.

…Wait! What did he mean by try not to get hurt?!

Chapter 5: Yuriel Gadius Northe (Age 9) - Visiting the Castle (Part 2)

After reluctantly following His Majesty’s request, I arrive in front of another wide double door within the inner part of the castle.

    Knock Knock Knock

The maid that guided me here, knocked before calling out.

“Young Master Yuriel is here to meet with you, princess”

It was silent for a literal moment when suddenly, the sound of hurrying footsteps could be heard coming from the other side.

    “Yuri! Yuri! Yuriiii!~~~”

A soon as the door swung open, a girl tackled me to the floor, repeatedly calling my name while rubbing her cheeks against my chest.

This person should be Princess Charlotte Centra Demure, the youngest daughter of His Majesty, King Kelvin Centra Demure…right?

The girl’s small arms wrapped around my body, holding herself close to me. The smell of flowers entered my nose due to how close her crimson-colored hair was to my face.

I was momentarily enraptured by her scent but I quickly pushed those thoughts aside.

“Princess, you are troubling master Yuriel”

A maid that came from inside her room went out to try and remove her from me. It was no use as she was holding on strongly.

“How dare you make me worry! I forbid you from dying without my permission!”, she yelled loudly as she grabbed my closer.

The maid was still trying to separate her from me but the small girl refused.

Seeing that it was useless, I raised my hand to signal the maid to stop. I then gently caressed the back of the princess, easing her worries.

“I’m sorry”, were the words that I spoke. I quickly knew this person deeply worried over me, over Yuriel.

Supporting her weight, I raised my body in order to get a better look at her face. Also, no matter how clean this corridor is, it’s still wrong to lay here.

She raises her face to meet mine, silently looking at me with her deep blue eyes clouded with tears.

I smiled at her then took out a handkerchief from my pocket, wiping her cheeks then that dripped down her face.

    “Better?”, I asked her.

    “Un…”, she nodded.

I felt my face unconsciously smile when I saw her adorable expression.

Seeing that she calmed down, I signaled to her maid to help her stand up.

It felt that as though she was reluctant to separate from me but she released me after being urge once again.

    “...”

As she stood, she just quietly looked with her hands stretched out. She waiting for me to take her hand.

    Smile~

Accepting the outstretched hand, a radiant smile spread across her face. She once again hugged me when I stood up.

“It is better that young miss and young master Yuriel enter the room. Doing such acts in this corridor will be quite troubling”

The princess’s maid beckons us inside, while the maid that accompanied me here seems to have already left some time ago.

    “Come inside, Yuri!”

Pulling my arm, I was made to enter her room by force.

    “Um…princess?”

    “Yes~?”

    “This position is kinda…”

As soon I was inside, I was made to sit on a soft cushion on the floor by the princess. That in itself wouldn’t have been a problem but the princess also sat between my legs with her back comfortably leaning against me.

“Do you dislike it?”, she looks at me with teary eyes.

“What? Of course not! It’s just that… don’t you think that this position is improper?”

“That is true but I haven’t seen Yuri for so long! I was lonely!”

I decided to ignore this matter and told her that I don’t remember her at all. How I lost my memories because of the incident and that I am still relearning everything.

“I already knew that Yuri doesn't remember me”

    “How!?”, I asked rather surprised.

“Well the old Yuri wouldn’t let me sit between his legs like this”

    “I guess…”

Even the me right now would have trouble letting a girl sit between my legs but since she’s still 9 years old, I just thought of her as a little sister.

“But even if new Yuri doesn’t remember his old self, I will still like Yuri regardless of how he turns out… but”

    “But?”

“I like the new Yuri more. He is kinder and gentler than old Yuri”

I could only smile wryly at her words.

“I am glad to hear that, princess”

    “Charlotte”

    “Nn?”

I tilted my head in confusion but she turned bright red in return.

“Just call me Charlotte!”, she yelled. “We are e-engaged after all”

    “...Eh?”

Suddenly, my mind went blank for a moment.

What did she say? Engaged? Does that mean that I…Eh?

    “Pr-”

“Char~lotte~”, she puffed her cheeks in annoyance.

“...C-Charlotte…what was it that you said again? I think I misheard you”

“You misheard nothing! Yuri and I are engaged! You will become my husband after we graduate from the academy”

She hugged me tightly while she rubbed her cheeks against my chest. I looked at her maid but she only replied with a slight nod, confirming that what she said was the truth.

    “...Do you not want to?”

Her face looked as if she was on the verge of crying, as she continued to hug me tightly.

Her deep blue eyes were moist as though tears would flow out as soon as I said words of denial.

    “N-No…It’s just…I didn’t think I had such a c-cute bride”

I could feel my face heating up as I said those words. It couldn’t be helped that I started to have trouble looking at her face as well.

(Gosh. Why am I feeling so much embarrassment from a 9 year old girl)

    “Really!?”, she shouted joyfully.

“...”, I nodded while avoiding her gaze.

    “Ehehe~ Yuri is embarrassed”

She grinned widely then hugged me even tighter than before.

    “Kk!!”

It was at that moment that I felt my back creaking from the pressure. I already noticed it a moment ago but she really had so much strength that it contradicts her frail-looking appearance.

“C-Charlotte…”, I called out to her. I could feel the air in my body being squeezed out.

“P-Princess, I think you should stop now!”, said her maid quickly. “Master Yuriel had just recovered. It would be bad if he were to be injured again”

“Ah! I-I’m sorry, Yuri”, she quickly released me from her grip. “A-Are you okay? Does it hurt?”

“N-No…I’m fine”, I said in reply.

I tried to catch the breath that Charlotte forcefully squeezed out.

Is this what His Majesty meant by trying not get hurt?! Just where did that monstrous strength come from in that tiny body?

Just as I was finally able to catch my breath, Charlotte took hold of my hand and said.

“Um... To continue… No matter what kind of person Yuri becomes, I will always stand beside you”, her cheeks were bright red but her expression quickly darkened when she continued. “I-In the future… If you cannot learn to accept my feeling and decide to cancel our engagement…I-I will accept your decision and bury my feelings”

She was thinking rather maturely for a 9 year old child but even then I can see from her expression that she doesn’t want that to happen.

“...B-But until that time comes! I will be beside Yuri no matter what! I l-l-love Yuri after all! Aaaaah I said it!!”

She quickly let go of my hand and ran off towards her bead, burying herself behind a mountain of cushions and pillows.

Is it bad that I couldn’t help find her actions to be charming?…Well no matter. If I am going to live in this world, I might as well follow what I my feelings are telling me.

I had also decided that I want to be someone who’s worth being beside Charlotte.

Approaching her bed, I sat on the edge of it and spoke.

“...Let us catch up on the time that I have forgotten, Charlotte”

    “...Un”

Peeking under the mountain of pillows, she shows a delighted look as she accepted my offer. Her bright red cheeks showed her loveliness.

After a while of catching up, Charlotte wanted to play with me.

I fully expected us to play with dolls or play house but instead, Charlotte took out two wooden sword from a chest that laid at the corner of the room, throwing one towards me.

She quickly dashed off and struck me with it. Regardless to say, I lost rather spectacularly. She didn’t do it only once but multiple times. Every time I was painfully struck by her.

Even though she was urging Charlotte to stop, her maid seemed to have given up and brought out a medical kit while seemingly sending me an apologizing gaze for being unable to stop her.

“Yuri became weak~?”, said Charlotte, as she rested her wooden sword against her shoulders.

“I can’t help it. I don’t remember how to use the sword after all”, I said rather reluctantly.

I tried to play it off it being caused by my ‘amnesia’, to which she seems to have accepted as a reason.

Even before dying, I never picked up a weapon to fight with someone, even as a form of playing. The only time that I fought back on earth was when an idiot tried to mess with my sister, even then I barely managed to beat him up.

“Well that’s fine! I’ll be the one to protect Yuri instead of the other way around. So Yuri should just go and focus on something different”

She puffs up her chest as she swings her prided sword.

“If that’s the case, you won’t mind if I learned magic, right?”

“Yup! But I’m the one to protect Yuri so don’t bother learning how to fight with it”

“But I want to protect you too though?… Don’t you want me to?”, this time it was my turn to show a teary expression.

It seemed to have worked as she replied, “T-Then it’s fine, I guess”, with a bright red face.

I patted her head and thanked her.

    “Ehehe~”

    She smiles brightly in return.

We continued having a leisurely time together. I ‘relearned’ things about her and I listened as she told me what the old Yuri did with her.

I found out that the original Yuriel was deeply afraid of her. He often cried because of Charlotte’s ‘games’. There were often times when he would call Charlotte a ‘brute’ or ‘muscle woman’ because he couldn’t stand her and her abnormal strength.

In spite of this, Yuriel didn’t seem to hate her, since if he did, father and His Majesty wouldn’t have let me meet with her. He just simply couldn’t handle her.

“Lord Northe has ordered me to come get you”

Maybe because I was enjoying my time with Charlotte, I didn’t notice that it was already sunset. A maid had come to inform me that father and I will be leaving.

“I want you to visit me soon, okay?”, Charlotte asks me after hugging me one last time.

“I’ll ask father if he can let me go to the castle again”

With our simple exchanges, I left Charlotte’s room to meet up with father.

When I arrived, father was already inside of the carriage, seemingly tired.

“Good work today, father”, I said as I greeted him.

“...Ah, Yuriel. Thank you…Father just needs to rest his eyes, okay? His Majesty was much more of a handful today”

Father didn’t seem to have the energy to speak anymore. Looks like his work today was more hectic than it usually was.

I was helped boarding the carriage by one of gate guards, then the carriage drove back home.

As the carriage moved down the capital’s streets, I heard father coughing to catch my attention.

    “Yes, father?”

    “...So? How was the princess?”

“She was nice. Quite free-spirited though but at least she knows when to be gentle”

“I see…then did you find out?”

“That the two of us were engaged? Yes. It was quite the surprise but I thought that it would not be so bad be wedded to such cute girl”, I gave him my honest thought.

Hearing my words, father smiled gently with his eyes closing in satisfaction.

“That’s good, that’s good. Though publicly you are known as a marriage candidate, His Majesty and I had already decided that the two of you will officially be engaged once both of you have reached your coming-of-age ceremonies next year. I had simply thought that you would once again request me to cancel your engagement with the princess”

    “I refused the engagement?”

“Before, yes. You kept insisting that you did not want a wife that was a ‘muscle-head’”, he showed a troubled smile while he scratched his cheek.

“...Ah…Father”, seeing his expression, I decided to say to him what I wanted to say for some time now.

    “Hmm?”

“I’m sorry for being a such a difficult child before”, I bowed at him.

“.…..Well we know that we are also at fault for sheltering you too much but that is now a thing of the past… since your reputation is not that well, you will need to work hard in fixing it by yourself”

    “I understand”

Father patted my head as he smiled.

“...Father, may I request something of you?”

    “What is it?”

“I want to learn how to use magic. I want to be able to learn how to protect Charlotte and those who are important to me. I do not know what the future has in store for me but whatever it is that happens, I least want to be able to have the ability to protect those that I hold dear”

His eyes slightly widened, as he couldn’t believe the words that I said but after a short moment he once again smiled and placed his hand to my head.

“As you wish. Luckily, Miss Riona is also a skilled magic instructor. I will inform her tomorrow and make it so that magic will be part of your subjects”

    “Thank you, father”

“But remember this. Learning magic is not an easy task and if you were to fail, it could result in injuring yourself. Are you still sure about it?”

“Yes. There is nothing in this world that comes without risk. I need to be able to endure at least that much if I wish to obtain my goals”

Nodding at my words, father once again rested his back against his seat.

“Hah…You are only 9 years old and yet you are already saying such grown up things. It seems like losing your memory changed you into a completely different person”

I could only smile at father, who now had closed his eye to rest.

I couldn’t exactly tell him that I really was a different person after all.

As the slowly setting sun sunk behind the mountains, the thought of the future filled my mind.

Only time will tell what will happen in the future.

Still sick... managed to fix this up a bit

    Side Story 1 - A Father’s Thoughts

    --Simon Northe’s POV--

As a father, I, Simon Northe, could not help but be worried over my children’s growth. Especially in Yuriel’s case.

It has been some time since the incident that almost took Yuriel’s life.

The formerly shy and introverted boy that always hid inside his room had now changed into a very outgoing child.

Back then, he would refuse any form of interaction with people outside from his family.

Claire was the only exception to this for some reason (though I never did learn why this was so).

Now he not only talks with the servants, he would even sometimes help them in their work. My wife would frequently worry that he would get himself hurt but I had thought that it was not so bad of a thing for him to do.

It’s good for a child his age to grow and be helpful to those around him…but I would still over what happened to him.

In usual cases, individuals that had suffered traumatic experiences would develop some sort of fear or trauma because of it, but in Yuriel’s case, it did not show any visible after-effects.

It may have been due to the fact that he lost his memories but his body should have still remembered the fear of almost dying… Quite honestly, I worry that it will affect his mind negatively... For now it seems like there is nothing visible but I will still have to ask his maid to monitor him closely, just in case.

On the matter of his education, I have heard from his tutor, Ms Greenwood, that his academic abilities are developing rather quickly. I am not sure if it is simply because his brain is compensating for the memories that he had lost or that it is simply his natural talent, but regardless it is still an amazing feat.

Ms Greenwood had told me that they are already reaching a point where she is running out of subjects to teach him.

As I already gave her the permission to let Yuriel study magic, it should allow her some time to find more materials to teach him.

Depending on the result, I would even allow subjects that are at the royal academy’s level. Or if he is interested, I will let him assist Ms Greenwood in her research. She too seems to have interest in his knowledge after all.

… Well though I am proud of the change in my child, I could not help but wonder… Where exactly is his ideas coming from?

For example; It was the day after he woke up, he had suddenly gave me suggestions in fixing the problem that one of the country’s fiefs was experiencing.

When I ordered a skilled earth magician to conduct tests using what he had told me, they reported that it had shown that the soil was becoming healthier. It would still take some time to see visible results but it would appear that what Yuriel thought of will truly help the soil grow more crops.

I had questioned him on how he knew about the problem and what steps to take in order to fix it. His reply to me was ‘The idea simply came to me… I do not even know why I knew it’ followed by a troubled smile.

At that moment I had thought that Yuriel might have obtained the goddess’s blessing or that a spirit has granted him their guidance in order to save the suffering fief.

I believe there were stories that say that the goddess will grant special abilities and knowledge to those that caught her interest, and some would tell tales of spirits who will often give guidance to certain people when the land is in need... but whatever case may be, Yuriel had helped us greatly.

The knowledge that he gained might not have only been in the agricultural side as his creativity had also shown some interesting results.

It was a few days after our visit to the castle when Yuriel had suddenly came to my office.

“Are you busy, father?”, he asked me.

Since I still had some time left before heading to the castle, I told him that it was fine and that he should come in. Hearing my response, he had shown a rather cute and relieved expression when I told him so.

“If it is okay with father… Could I ask you to play a game with me?”, he requested with a rather shy face.

Of course I accepted his request. It was not everyday that I could play with my children (Especially with Yuriel, who had always dislikes interacting with people).

When I questioned him on what game it is that we were going to play, he gestured towards Claire and she stepped forward while holding something wrapped up in cloth.

Revealing the object, what I saw was a flat wooden board with a black and white checkered pattern spread across it. There were also some small figurines that were placed beside the board.

“What is this?”, I asked him.

“It is a game!”, he excitedly said. “This is called chess. It is a strategy game that uses the pieces that each have corresponding moves…”

He then proceeded to teach me about the various moves and rules of the game.

The enthusiasm in his voice as he explained his game, was truly that of a child’s.

I had started to worry that because he has been speaking like that of an adult’s for the past few days, he had suddenly lost his childish demeanor. It was a pleasant sight to see him acting like a child his age.

When we had finally started, I had difficulty in playing it at first but I soon as I understood how to play it, I had started to genuinely enjoyed the game... although I did lose to him frequently, it was still an enjoyable experience.

I figure out that it was not simply a game of capturing the opponent’s head piece but also a game to fool your opponent into moving into your plans.

I questioned him on how he came up with such an idea but once again, he gave off a troubled smile and answered me with with unsure words.

It had felt like he was keeping secrets from me and that made me troubled… Is it something that he cannot say? Or was it because it is something that will trouble his family?

Either way, I decided to brush away those thoughts and continued our game.

No matter what it is, I will properly wait for him to tell it to me himself.

A short while after we started started playing, the twins, Marie and Mary, joined in on our game.

They told me that they have been looking forward to play the game that Yuriel created since yesterday but they couldn't since he didn't allow them. When I asked him why this was so, he said that wanted me to be the first one to play it with.

I was quite touched by Yuriel’s gesture while also amused at the pouting faces of my two daughters.

When the time to leave arrived, Claire brought out another chess board when she was ordered by Yuriel. He also gave me a note with written rules and instructions on how to play it.

“Please give this one to His Majesty. I am sure that he will enjoy it as well”, was what he requested me.

Though I dislike that he will now find a new way to skip out on his work, it is still my son’s request that I give it to him.

Although, knowing his personality, he may even allow this game to spread all across the continent...Which is not that bad of an outcome.

When I had actually shown it to His Majesty, he was delighted just as I had expected, even princess Charlotte seemed to have been quite intrigued by Yuriel’s creation.

“This looks like it will be really fun if we let the other citizens know about it! Let's introduce this game to our citizens!”, was what he said.

I told him that we would need obtain Yuriel’s permission first, as he is the one that created it in the first place.

No matter how much I want to boast about my child's creation, I will not allow it to simply be introduced without first getting his permission.

His Majesty seemed to have understood my worry, so nodded and canceled the idea for now.

I will need to remember to speak with Yuriel as soon as I get home. With how that child is now, he might like the thought but I have to make sure of it.

Speaking of how he is now, his relationship with the princess seems to have improved quite favorably.

Back then, he had always refused the princess’s invitation simply because he doesn’t want to meet with her.

I understand that this might have been due to the princess’s ‘rough’ way in handling Yuriel but that is unfortunately just her way of showing her affection.

Among all the other noble children that the princess interacts with, Yuriel is the only one that she truly gives her attention to. His Majesty had even told me that she would frequently turn away any other noble children that wishes to meet with her when Yuriel is in the castle. I thought her idea sweet but as a princess, it is very troubling.

But now that the two could meet once more, the princess seems to have shown some change. She is visible happier when near Yuriel ‘s side. She was especially happy when she knew that Yuriel had finally accepted their betrothal. It may be because of this that the princess’s actions around him had become more gentler.

His Majesty and I could not help but smile at the princess’s bashful appearance whenever we see them together. As father’s we were both happy that our children got along. They will make for a good couple once they grew up and building up their relationship now will serve as a way for their bond to strengthen.

Though I do not need to worry that the two’s relationship, I worry about the people that are around them… Especially around Yuriel’s surroundings.

My whole family and our servants all agree that Yuriel is a very beautiful boy. This is not simply a matter of our favoritism of him, Yuriel is genuinely attractive.

Even for a boy that is still 9 years old, he has features that are close to my wife, Marietta, who is known in noble society as a beauty blessed by the goddess of beauty.

I fear that there would be individuals that will try to get close to Yuriel with immoral intentions towards him. Considering his appearance as well as the promise that he possesses, people will surely want to obtain his favor.

I simply wish for my children to grow normally, and be able to do what it is that they want.

I considered asking father if he could find suitable guards for him, but the matter of those people’s personalities are also important. It will also take time in order to find them.

For now, I will trust in Claire’s abilities to protect Yuriel’s innocence. Hopefully, she removes any bugs that approach my precious child.
