Question Which among the modern genre do you guys prefer?

If you guys prefer a combination of them, like rebirth+apocalypse or VRMMORPG+rebirth, let me know. Just curious to what the readers, as a whole, prefer.

 

I'm fine with anything as long as they're executed well and can catch my interest. Oh and no over the top racism and nationalism

The one with super powers and magic in modern times. I think the term used is urban fantasy to refer to this type of genre.

Oh yay I'm with the majority.
If I were to give my reason, it is potential. Supernatural stories have so much potential but only some author can harness half the greatness of making a Supernatural story a reader enjoy.

Most of your choices are more specifically catered to certain people, but Supernatural story can mix with most genre well.

 

I would honestly like a bit more good sci-fi novels, but they're rather few.

 

I like apocalypse the most but there aren't as many good ones as VR modern day novels because they're harder to write realistically. A lot of them stray from apocalypse to fantasy world so those don't even count any more.

For me as long as the story is good, i don't mind the genre.
Unless its heavily "Yaoi" based, which i reject immediately (light-hearted ones are ok, but can't handle heavy "Yaoi").

But if i have to complain about one concept, it would be the "Concept of Levels" in the many Novel's/Manga's.
By the way i don't mind the "Concept of Stats" though.
While i don't have problem with being able to know how much strength or power one has (with Appraisal and similar type of skills or magic). But the "Concept of Levels" just doesn't fit right for me, as it some way denotes that there is a limit to a persons growth.

 

I prefer those with huge settings and grand events taking place which are mostly seen in VR, apocalypse, and supernatural novels.

Romance is an exception though. I like to read anything with good romance except bl.

 

Anything is good so long as there's no nationalism / having to hear about how money in whatever new world has to be equated to where they came from. Having a guy repeat how much the money in a fantasy world is equal to in china, korea or japan over and over again through the course of every chapter gets old fast. Even then that pales in comparison to the over the top nationalistic bs from those countries. I'd really like to read a modern day or fantasy novel where I don't have to hear how great those countries are every chapter.

 

I tend to prefer Sci-Fi / Supernatural but not those that use magic because "it is magic" and enters the "Wizard Did it" scenes. There is a need of Magi Babble or Techno Babble to estable a willing suspension of disbelief... There's rather a few of them and most just combines with "Rebirth / Isekai" which are..... a few in quality...

 

Why? Are you thinking that people should be able to grow without limit?

 

A Hitman with action like Mission Impossible would be a bit interesting. Sniping from high ground, hidden identity like wearing a mask, well planned preparation, enjoying everyday life like a normal person, some romance drama, mastering weapons, hand to hand combat and every survival ability

There are some novels who had this trait, yet not executed very well.

Romance fiction all the way. All the others in a modern setting are a little meh.

 

Martial Arts Master, a pure masterpiece in terms of romance. Realistic romance where MC pursue a really beautiful girl by just conversing with her/befriending her. After they go out, lots of loveydovey moments.
Supernatural fighting that becomes boring after a while though.
I skip the fights lately. And translator stopped just before something interesting (MC will encounter his father-in-law even though his girlfriend was kinda forbidden to have a relationship).

 

Cultivation novels... Long cultivation novels are best... After that would VRMMORPG novels I guess... Recently these system novels have also entered the list.. but still cultivation novels is in a class far above the rest. Somehow they aren't able to lose my interest once I start reading them despite the many shortcomings they have.

 

Out of the ones listed I guess either female MC romance or supernatural, but both of those are way too broad so it depends on the context.
What I really prefer from modern day stories is ones that are either work or hobby oriented, or slice of life that isn't too comedy focused.
