While I admire your ethical thoughts on it, a promise between parties one and two, it doesn't affect the third party. That's why you should make sure that the author understands that the Third part isn't related to you. As for retaliation... We're working on something ;3
yo @prongsjiisan you seems to be activist in regards to asianhobbyist bad UI design and other negative behavior. can i suggest (since you are more active than me) suggesting adblock + anti anti adblock script for people while you are campaigning. while its true its up to wuji, i feel that money speaks more than complaint. The more people that use adblocker means more reason for him to make UI friendly website. Worst case he stop translating but i don't think there is high quality novel translated on the site atm anyway.
My problem with @Wujigege is how he continued to translate without the old translator permissions, and how he ask permission with his arrogance. Now that's big NO for me. So I'll keep this until either he sink or he repent his mistakes.
It doesn't matter it doesn't affect the third party. When Ai-chan asked for permission to translate into English, Ai-chan speaks for the entire community who reads it in English. Once permission has been acquired, Ai-chan speaks for the entire community in the translation of that work, unless someone else ask for permission afterwards. This is about integrity. One must take responsibility for one's actions, regardless of whether or not one is directly responsible. Ai-chan may not have any control for what others do, but being the one who brings attention to that title and making it attractive as an income source for for-profits, Ai-chan is accountable for what happens afterwards. If Ai-chan didn't bring attention to it, for-profits won't bother. Why? Because for-profits generally aren't interested in stuff that can't bring them profit, therefore, they won't choose a new title. Bringing up a new title is a hit and miss and they're just in it for the money. That's why for-profits almost always grab stuff that are already popular, brought up by fan translators. They just don't want to take risks because it's money. Fan translators don't care about money, so you get a lot of new titles from fan translators, not for-profits. For-profits just took stuff that is already popular. As the negotiator for the series, the negotiator is held accountable when for-profits break the promise between the negotiator and the author.
