It's bad if it is so windy that I can't open the door right?

So I was trying to go to dinner on my college campus, but I couldn't get the door open to leave the dorm and get to the cafeteria. I thought it was blocked but then I realized, that the wind was pushing the door shut to the point that even with my entire weight against it I couldn't open the door (and I was trying to push a push door, not some other combo like push a pull door). It took me and two other guys to push the door open but we had to get another guy in order to push it shut because the wind pushed it stuck against the wall. The only time I've ever felt stronger wind was in Hurricane Irene, which when I got home from school and got off the bus, the wind was so strong that even with my backpack I could actually jump about two feet higher than normal.
So, anyone live in a place where things like this happen often? I don't normally experience hurricanes or tornadoes or anything where I live, but I'm curious if things like this are common in some places, anyone know?

when you are in the ocean during a storm and when you want to walk out of the thigh high water, you can't because the pull is way stronger than you. it's a nice memory I have

 

Never happened at my place. The only thing I need to worried about at my town only earthquakes and volcano activities.

 

It's windy where I am too though not as bad.

I did get a headache from the constant noise of it blowing through the trees though. It's like goddammit TV static I can't turn off.

 

actually, we are very lucky in norway compare to others.. even tho we have had our windy days(those where it garner news outlets reporting about it.. trees, some roof tiles and what not get taken away, but it do not hold a candle to the term 'hurricane and what not, because we simply have not had them in my lifetime of 24years) even earthquakes is simply none existent, even tho it happen 1-2years back, where a BOOM was heard, and that startled all in the vicinity, but there were no tremors just a BOOM from the plates beneath the earth shifting.. i belive if DO happen, us in little norway will piss are panties with fear by the unknown

I started through a hurricane with 101mph sustained winds with gusts that blew over tree, it was so loud that no one heard the tree fall... Opening doors and closing them wasn't even an issue, so what kind of winds are you experiencing?

 

Here in my county we get typhoons every few weeks and an occasional Super Typhoons if mother nature really gets into it...

Therefore yeah,,, me and my county men have 50% wind resistance.
