I looked around with the tags but couldn't find the story. It´s was about a guy who starts over and makes his fortune in an MMORPG. The difference with this story is that he focuses on building cities and defends them awesomely. No, it´s not World Online.
Was it in modern china? City building. Doom Lord MC starts over. It's not really MMORPG but real world got game elements and mechanics implemented. There is such a thing of defending new settlements from monsters.
KR, JP, CN ? Mostly players creating factions or NPCs being massive powerhouses before the players catch up ? Any major event that happens that prompts the players to act? You claim he focuses on defence, but does he ever attack and capture without provocation or just stay and defend until they leave or until he gets the chance to crush them? Starting with a village / city within the first... 10-20 chapters, or as a player only ?
There is this novel - One Man Army - he does make a fortune because of his second chance. Don't remember him building any cities though.
It´s CN. From what I can remember, he starts the game when it´s just launched. He claims/buys attractive territory. His first city is close to a crystal mine. Im hazy on further details. Nope, not One Man Army either. Pretty good story though.
Urgh. I am only aware of The lord's empire in terms of chinese kingdom builders with some relation to mmorpg....

By starts over- do you mean rebirth? If so there are only a couple of mmorpg novels on nu like that. One was the legendary guardian one and the other was thief roaming the world. Unless it’s LMS? But I don’t really think they had city building? Well LMS sort of? Maybe it wasn’t on NU? Was there a particular quirk that the MC has? Like a girlfriend? Or a pet? Sick younger sister? A special weapon? A special OP item or skill?
Rebirth of the thief who roamed the world? He goes back in time and makes loads of money, he builds fortresses and cities and protects them. He is also really overpowered. He doesn't build the city til later in the story though.

Im sorry for the delay, had to check out all these stories to make sure it wasnt one of them. They really feel like clones when you are reading them in a row. I think I remember more about the story. The most similar to the one Im looking for is Reincarnation Of The Strongest Sword God. The story Im looking for has the MC finding/going directly for a spider ring that makes it easier for him to gain an advantage (That should be the early chapters). He shoot webs and slings himself around like spiderman. Does it ring any bell?
