Eventho its not similar but emperors soul by Brandon sanderson and empire trilogy by janny wurts and raymond e feist is right at the top of my fav list with kingkiller chronicle. Tbh nothing came close with kingkiller chronicle. Even the author cant write the 3rd book that better than the first 2 books.

It's been years since i read the Kingkiller Chronicles (and patiently awaiting the third and final entry into the trilogy) and have unfortunatly not crossed into any series similar to it.

And as a result I'll recommend some books or series that i enjoyed just as much as Name of the Wind.

Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin (Must read)
The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
The Cosmere books by Brandon Sanderson
Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman - Harry Potter for grownups (kinda)
The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist - First three
Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames
The First law by Joe Abercrombie
The Licanius Trilogy by James Islington

I dunno how but Many theories suggest that the "Kvothe" name is locked inside the chest and Elodin did said that knowing a name whole can do insane things. Since his power is linked to the "Kvothe" name and its currently impossible for "Kote" to open the chest so that why he can't get them back. Hey, at least he's trying to open it. Once again just a theory.

Just look for any series that isn't complete that you love, and cannot get enough of, with a highly likely hood of it never being completed to the authors unrealistic expectation of perfection. those are JUST like KKC.

Have you by chance read game of thrones and not watched the show? same kind of thing.
