Hey guys, I've run out of new novels to read for the past few months and I thought it was about time I get some more recommendations from you guys!

For the CN novels, I highly prefer that it isnt a harem simply because I have not read any with good character development for either the guy or the many many female lovers. Ideally it would have a great world built with some non cardboard support characters. I know I'm asking for a lot and I'm limiting my options, but here's to hoping!

For the JP, I'm fine with otome/villainess themes, or isekai as long as there is a good world building and good characters. Ideally, no harem as well (but im a bit more lenient on this one cause I know how hard it is to find a JP novel WITHOUT a harem...).

I've been pretty good with marking what I've read/checked out on my reading list so please check that to see if I've read it before!

    Much thanks peeps :D

No, wait, I think it's even harder for CN?

For recommendations, have you read novels translated by 2Slow2Late MTL?

They are both equally hard tbh... T^T

And no, I have not! I'll check them out in a bit but what kinds of novels do they translate? Also, MTL? How's the readability/ quality?

    1. Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu for the fantasy world building
    2. Tenkyou no Alderamin same as above
    3. Heavy Object for utter hilarity
    4. Setting everything else aside, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has a highly fleshed world
    5. Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes for feels
    6. A Will Eternal is a harem, but the characters are great
    7. History's Number 1 Founder is a mix of hilarity, cliche subversion, and a dabble of politics (xianxia style)
    8. Library of Heaven's Path also specializes in hilarity
    9. Ze Tian Ji for its world building and characters
    10. Martial King's Retired Life for a silly MC who keeps shooting himself in the foot. This may turn into a harem, but it doesn't really feel like one.
    11. Toaru Majutsu no Index - hopefully you know enough about this series because it's too hard to summarize its good points
    12. Spirit Sword Mountain - world building + funny characters. It's not clear how the romance will turn out
    13. Gekkou - a fun little mystery about a boy who thinks a girl might have killed her father
    14. Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria - it's slow, but a great read. Similar to Index imo
    15. Danmachi - it's set in an RPG-like fantasy world. The setting feels a bit under developed, but that may very well be because the author is waiting for future volumes. Right now, I enjoy reading about Bell's adventures and finding out more about the world. However, it will likely turn into a harem later on.
    16. Grimgar - it's a dark isekai, but the world and characters are well developed. A group of teenagers wake up in an RPG-like world with no memories. One of the teens immediately takes charge like a protagonist and leads his party on the path of greatness. The MC wasn't chosen by him.
    17. Konosuba + Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi - fun harems
Can't think of anything else right now. You should try Inverted Dragon's Scale though, as someone below recommended.

I think that's because of the translator picks more then anything else lol
as for a well built world, try Dungeon Defense (JP harem) or The Amber Sword (very well built world so far)

I have been saving up AWE for when it is completed so I can binge read it like I did with ISSTH! Same goes for ZTJ... it's not completed yet is it..?
Hmm... Mahouka eh... I was wondering whether that was good since I saw bit of the anime.
I have been avoiding the QI ones since they are a pain to read with mobile (how I primarily read), but LHP was on my radar.

Thanks for the recommendations!! I will check them out :D

I am loving TAS! I remember binge reading it for a while and I was so into it, that I didnt see the heavy MTG influence hit. I was shocked and it took some time to recover, but it is still a very good novel I enjoy reading!

Dungeon Defense... I have checked it out here and there, but maybe I should jump in...

Hm, I've read two series by that translator, both are light hearted, parody-ish, rom-com,
Nah, I find the name is supposed to be ironic, the actual translator is in no way slow, late, or MTL

Tales of Herding Gods - good world
Throne of Magical Arcana- quite good world
Martial art Master - good characters (I don't like the novel but I must say it's quality)
Edit: the godsfall chronicle - brutal apocalypse
    Jp
    Tate no yusha (?)
    Faraway paladin
Strike the Blood was quite fun
(tip good jp novels are licensed)

For Mahouka, you have to try it to find out. I feel the writing style develops over the first 7-8 volumes before settling around volume 8-9. However, if there's one thing to say about Mahouka, it's that the author spends a lot of time on the world setting, magic system and whatnot. It is incredibly developed. The novels might just continue until Tatsuya dies of old age or takes over the world, considering the attention put in.

You can really count on Mao Ni's novel for character interaction and development though

The Inverted Dragon Scale is very good in its own way
